Not sure what Late to Dinner is supposed to be referencing. Art, flavor text and name don't make sense to me. Something I'm missing?
The name's a pun. The late elephant (assuming the dead one's the elephant) is late to the dinner party (hence the potluck Food token) because he was (until recently) dead. The rhino (assuming it's the one that's been alive the entire time) is remarking on his friend's general dedication and commitment to his schedule, so much so that not even the end of his life could deter his plans.
Well, the elephant is clearly a translucent spirit. The rhino looks old but still alive.
We need these two as a card in an unset. I'm moved.
I'm now seeing them as Magic's Waldorf & Stadler. Booo! Hisss!
Yeah, it's just an absurdly flavorful card that stands alone in its flavor - Two old friends have a weekly dinner, one dies, but is so dedicated that he continues to show up even in death. And, I guess he even brings part of the meal with him? I hope this is a real plane that we visit some day - A world of Victorian-era armchair philosophers inhabited by anthropomorphic animals.
People seem ready to discard these cards as draft filler, but I am very interested for pauper. People have in the past splashed white in pauper reanimation just for Resurrection and this is...pretty much just straight up better. I will certainly be trying out mardu or maybe even Boros reanimation. The only issue is that while you smile as you slam an Ulamog's Crusher on the battlefield on turn four your tron opp has done the same with very little set up. A bit demoralizing, but still exciting.
Hymn to Tourach was very fun in pauper until they banned it, I would be excited for Tourach's Canticle even if it was 3 mana, but at 4 mana it is rather prohibitive, not sure it could see play.
Speaking of reanimation, Break Ties seems really interesting in pauper to combat those sorts of strategies. Unfortunately it is overpriced in a format where the answers have to be more efficient than the threats, but perhaps the versatility could get there in the end.
Late to Dinner : wheres our legendary spirit loxodon :0 !!!!!
spreading ressurection looks good maybe not great in modern but i m sure theres gonna be a commander or 2 that want this (also storm )
tourach is indeed the legendary from a banned card, predictable but kinda wanted other almost unknown characters
Lucid Dreams for that tarmogoyf tribal, hope some day wee get a llurgoyf wubrg legendary creature for that tribal (although it would be hard to work imo )
Still waiting on Gix, personally.
Well the hint is for alegendary character best known for having his name on a powerful card (that’s been banned) finally gets a legendary creature, and, a character that first appeared in a Magic novel finally becomes a legendary creature . Gix can still be on the set but he would never fit for the hint about a banned card
I absolutely get that, I'm just saying that with all these characters from the past they keep printing, the one I want is Gix. Tourach is fine; but come on, where is Gix @WOTC?
