when countless other cards exist for the 99 that kill creatures in black and white.
beside creatures are the easiest to remove in edh that aren't indestructable/hexproof
Well first off, you didn't even specify in your initial post that you were talking about EDH in the first place. For all we know, you could have been talking about peasant cube, or 60 card casual, or some other off-the-wall format. The context of the format is kind of important to mention when voicing your opinion and analysis of a card.
Second, this and Mortify fill different curve slots and kill different things, so one of them isn't really a strict upgrade over another. They're quite different cards.
And finally, why are you even running Mortify in EDH in the first place when you could be running something like Anguished Unmaking instead?
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

...Sure? But that's like saying Demystify replaces Mortify, then. The two have very different benefits. One of the big benefits of Mortify is that it's enchantment removal that's *also* creature removal, meaning it's never completely dead. This is an upgrade to something like Disenchant, not Mortify.

Heck, every day I wake up, I don't go out and kill people - and I'm rewarded by not having legions of enemies! Amazing how that works.
Although ninjas are experts of camouflage and concealment, they are actually horrible liars. This means that no matter where you are, you can shout out, “Are there any ninjas here?” and if there’s a ninja within earshot, he’ll be compelled to respond.
Skyclave Apparition does the trick most of the time as the latest best card in that regard.
Despark does it for anything bigger and exiles too (which matters for the big creatures that otherwise just get reanimated again or come back with undying/persist or anything like that).
Still good to have options, as being converted manacost 2 helps to be a viable target for Spellseeker and that alone can be a reason to include it if thats the kind of silver bullet you want to tutor for.
This is going to be entirely meta-dependent. I don't usually run into too many Planeswalkers that need to be dealt with at instant speed, so while this is a strict upgrade to something like Disenchant, that's about as far as I'll go with it. If you want additional disenchant effects or you're playing where there's a bunch of Planeswalkers, this is great. But with regard to the cards discussed, this isn't strictly better than any of them, or strictly worse.
Rip mortify this just replaces it all together (in commander)

I run Mortify over Anguished Unmaking because Mortify isnt 10 bucks a pop, tbh.
