Really hesitant about using this in EDH, actually.
This is normally the sort of big and splashy X spell that I love casting as it more than likely leaves me with a counter in hand and the mana to use it.
Most of my spellslinger decks are fairly light on actual win-cons, however, and the thought of accidentally exiling 2+ of them with a big X... the thought isn’t pleasant.
So Kaldheim had a few more story spotlights than we've seen so far, but we've seen as many as a typical set already. Definitely feels like there's gotta be something else or we wouldn't have seen this so early.

I couldn't agree more
this can easily be guessed as "this is too easy" type of thing like in plots of anything
What a terrible card. The most you can get out of each mana you put into this card is "draw a card and deal 1 damage" if you hit a U/R card. But no matter what X is and even if you were to hit a U/R card every single time, this card would still be overcosted.
A good comparison is Inspired Ultimatum. If you cast this for X = 5, it's like the Ultimatum without the lifegain and restricted to dmaging the opponent. And that's if you somehow topdeck FIVE U/R cards. This has more flexibility, I guess, but the less X is, the less cost-efficient the card becomes, so that's no real consolation.
1 set world building up something evil just to crush it in the same set ...
Its just pathetic ... do we even need a "big bad evil" at all if its done that terrible ? I dont think so.
With this trend Phyrexia will just be a joke ... sad ...

The card is pretty terrible in almost any case.
Producing treasure tokens (like a ton of other cards int he set for whatever reason in blue/red) might combo better with stuff that actually cares for them Goldspan Dragon and the like, but thats already quite a stretch to give this any reason to exist).
Drawing 1 card vs 1 damage is also a pretty terrible color balance.
Could easily be 3 damage for each red card, then this could deal some serious damage in a deck with plenty of red cards.

That just means X has to be 40+. ALWAYS RED! ALWAYS RED!

Considering Lukka is part of the story (to the point his pet Mila will appear as a cosmetic in MTG: Arena) and he hasn't even appeared in any card yet, yeah this just seems fishy. I mean, I doubt they would have written a part for Lukka in the lore and story but completely misrepresented it in the actual cards. Again.
Unfortunately, I don't give WotC the benefit anymore.
This probably is exactly as it looks. Extus makes a Blood Avatar, the Kenrith Twins prevail over it. That's it.
The way they do previews now, it doesnt matter in their philosophy that story or other surprise elements are revealed. They have already done this before.

Did you see crackle with power? Unless it’s temporary Rowan might be getting a dark Phoenix arc

(I didn't see any thread for this card)
gameplay: one card Painter's Servant
Story: well that was the fastest loose for a villain we saw the blood avatar today and it gets killed today heck maybe it never even left the altar
i Smell there’s something else in play here

Still holding out for Jin-Gitaxias or Eldrazi.
Bye have a good time.
Card is ok, not great but it is playble.
For standard if we had pirate's pillage we could easily build a storm oracle of thassa deck with Prismari, this, Will&Rowan and seize the spoils

It seems hinted at in the flavor text to Letter of Acceptance too.
