Ugin is outright copy-pasted from original Swanland's art, just flipped horizontally and rotated a bit. From a frigging existing Magic card. At least the Bolas was taken "just" from someone's Deviantart page.
The guy is a f***ing plagiarizer.

I wonder if he thought the Bolas art was official Wizards and that WotC wouldn't have a problem with him using it and the Ugin since they already owned it.
Not that it makes the outcome better, but since several of these pieces (cough... FaithlessLooting...) have the feel of pictures collages from magazine clipping I'm curious if the using non-wizards art was a mistake more than intentional theft.
So, while I understand that the fan-artist is angry, Jason Felix is allowed to do what he did. So, one more time, I don't understand the move on WotC to "suspend" Jason Felix, one more time caring more about the internet mob than his own rules.

Being allowed doesn't mean it's ok. If i was a multimillionaire company, i wouldn't waste my money hiring tracer artists, even if they do so completely legally.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Additionally to what ilovesaprolings said, I'd point out that the Fan Art policy is not a legally binding document. It's a policy, intended to give guidelines from Wizards that say "we're not going to sue you if you stay within these lines". The note about being allowed to use and promote fanart is Wizards ensuring that they can safely share and promote fanart, not use it as compensated art. It almost certainly wouldn't stand up to a legal challenge, especially given that the fanart in question both predates the policy and has no indication that it is under said policy. Of course, it probably still wouldn't be a good idea for the fan artist to sue Wizards, given the massive resource advantage they have, but it makes it a good idea for Wizards to both censure the artist plagiarizing and potentially give some form of compensation to the fanartist to ensure cooperation.
Now that I have gone through the IP policy, my understanding is the problem is twofold: on the one hand, Felix is being paid to do original work and he didn't (that's between WotC and Felix); on the other Felix used someone else's work (that's between Felix and the DeviantArt artist). I don't see a problem between WotC and the artist due to the policy; however, the fact that they paid for a new piece and got this stuff will allow them to be harsh on Felix. Too bad, I liked his earlier stuff.
