WOTC has said these will never be standard legal, so I'll take them on their word, at least in the short term. However, they also initially said MUB wouldn't be Modern legal, then immediately walked that back, meaning they want to leave the door open and will certainly make these modern legal if they think it will make them money.
A lot of the slippery slope "they will show up in modern/standard" arguments likely stem from how they've handled the game lately and other statements they've made in the past. UB would not have been considered 5-10 years ago, even Maro said it wouldn't happen (in 2013), but now here we are and TWD & UB shows that's untrue. Many of these "won't happen" statements usually end up being proven wrong, only thing they've stuck to their guns long enough with is the Reserved List and even that has changed a few times (like the foil loophole.)
As long as a thing makes money they'll keep pushing it until either the money stops.
What formats do you play? Did WotC not put out any products in the past ~1-2 years that contributes to those formats?
None at the moment thanks to the pandemic. Haven't even played a friendly kitchen table game of Commander since just before Thanksgiving. In a literal sense they haven't put anything out for me in six months, and likely another couple months.
In a non literal sense I haven't played in any tournament in years, but I do play Commander and any card they put out can be for me, but in the last 1 1/2 years they've put out far more that are not for me. 39 SLs in 14 months and while I can afford to buy hundreds of them if I chose to they are not for me (one I liked and I still couldn't be bothered to get it as I did not want to support SLs). Theme boosters are redundant and awful and not for anyone in particular (only time I see these bought are when boosters are sold out at Walmart), set boosters are redundant (nothing like them cutting back on draft in Strixhaven for those that do enjoy it), Mythic Editions, Masters sets, and more.
The products themselves are not for me, yes the singles might be in them, but the product? Nope. The products for me are the same, but now they are in the minority compared to even two years ago at this time. Now Secret Lairs clog up releases and are at least a plurality of products.
Then with them cutting back on store support the game becomes even less for me when I do feel like socializing. So again, yes, they may be still putting out product for me, in a sense, they are doing less of it in numerous ways by focusing on other parts that I believe are solely marketed to collectors. (SLs, Mythic Editions, UB, and others.)
Uh, sure. How often do they complain about what someone living in another state is ordering?
A lot, have you not seen the pineapple hate when it comes to pizza or even ketchup on steak?
I don't think you understood my original point, or else the comparison should make more sense (see just above).
And I don't think you understood the original point to which you first replied to.
A thing is neither inherently good nor bad by virtue of a characteristic like "it can be bought or sold." There are reasons to judge a thing, but this is not one of those reasons, and has absolutely no attachment to the judgments we actually do make about the very real and tangible consequences of something like drug use. If you're going to analyze them in terms of salability, that's a fine apples-to-apples comparison; to attach the same level of moral gravity because of another shared, but otherwise unrelated, characteristic is a red herring.
If there are reasons why UB is a bad thing - and I feel there are - then we can and should talk about those in rational terms, but the poster I quoted was making an obvious attempt to transitively assign negative qualities to UB based on the fact that he doesn't like them, not because of anything factually relevant. Hence, a fallacy.
Couldn't it be interpreted as the person believing UB is as bad for the game is drugs are for a person? In this particular metaphor wouldn't that be correct to surmise that is what they meant? UB is not bad for a person, but for the game as a drug? I think so.
I really don't feel that I did, but also: was this last part truly necessary?
You chose to for that poster so then why shouldn't I mention it? It's easy to insult and I believe you did that to them.
I mean, okay. UB won't be standard legal, but all they have to do is print a crossover set that is declared not to be part of UB and still make it standard legal. It's so simple I wouldn't even call it a loophole.

That hit me today as well. While I'm okay with D&D set, to a point, this is definitely another IP coming into Standard and Modern.
The program itself is just a tool that allows players to generate their own content; some is official 'DLC' from the game manufacturers themselves (I bought Scythe for $8, courtesy of Stonemaier), the rest is user generated and either stored server side or available to save locally, and 100% free. I've been using it these past few months to play both 40k and Magic, the latter of which is especially easy if you already have decks built on tappedout or archidekt. Bear in mind that TTS doesn't actually know the rules of any given game, it just gives you the physical objects to play them.
I only play EDH and Pioneer, and I'm pretty well satisfied with how Wizards has been contributing to those formats. YMMV, but I feel like you also might be more satisfied if you actually got to play, so that's how we got here.

Naaah. Let's play cthulhu wars is better than magic these days. And it costs around the same as magic...
Remote Play in general costs way too much money to setup compared to sitting next to a group of people wearing face masks at a Local Game Store (LGS) playing EDH / Commander for hours on end. It's unfortunate that it's too dependent on the size of an LGSs overhead cause If it's too small then the risk to allow In-Store Play that's separate from Organized Play isn't really worth the reward in the middle of a pandemic. There was a small comic book shop I used to go to for getting my EDH / Commander fix on Friday nights but when COVID-19 hit me and the local community we've built for almost 20 years were forced to go our own separate ways. Luckily there's a Local Game Store with bigger overhead that I'm able to attend on Saturdays to get my EDH / Commander fix.
Most of my friends that I used to hang out with on Friday evenings have to work during the weekends which is why I don't see them as much as I used to. They don't ever bother to show up at the other LGS I go to due to lack of trust, competitive pricing, and lack of events but that's to be expected. I did manage to collect their phone numbers in case I need to contact them since I refuse to use Facebook and Twitter from getting addicted to Social Media though I only use YouTube so it's not too bad. I do use Twitch but that's mainly for logging into the MTG Salvation forums. If you really want to play Paper Magic online via EDH / Commander then Spelltable is also an option but the experience itself isn't the same as In-Person IMO. Reminds me of how much of a pain in the butt Wi-Fi Battles for Pokémon were back in Gen 4 (ugh!).

*gasp* A conversation about Magic on a Magic forum? That's....impossible!

You can get TTS on Steam for ~$20 (sometimes on sale for half off). If you get it let me know and we can play.

The upcoming DnD set is standard legal.

Thank you for the offer, but I do not know what TTS is nor how we get to this offer.
