Welcome to Strixhaven: School of Mages! Here you will study magic under one of the five colleges: Silverquil, Lorehold, Prismari, Witherbloom & Quandrix. Each dorm represents one of Magic's two-color combinations, each with their own personality and mechanics. Learn from the best professors and explore Strixhaven's huge library!
Pre-order comes with 2 extra prize boosters!
Contains:
6 Strixhaven: School of Mages Boosters
1 MTG Arena Code
1 Reusable box with divider
1 Spindown
1 Premium foil R / M
so....it’s a two color set and I have a tin-foil theory to why it’s likely enemy and that’s simply “Dragons of tarkir” that was ally colored focused set and two Ikoria is wedge so clearly it should synergize with the cards from that set

so....it’s a enemy color set little shocked I thought it would be shard or mono colored
Witherbloom sounds black-green, Quandrix has a blue-red ring to it. Though I don't see any confirmation of enemy-colors in the translation. Could be Silverquil is white-blue. Prismari could be anything really, sounding five-colored more than two-colored.
Notably the standard-order would be WB, UR, BG, RW, GU and I can't see Witherbloom being red-white. Maybe a mix of enemy and ally pairs? Or did I miss a crucial part of this leak?

Heck, every day I wake up, I don't go out and kill people - and I'm rewarded by not having legions of enemies! Amazing how that works.
Although ninjas are experts of camouflage and concealment, they are actually horrible liars. This means that no matter where you are, you can shout out, “Are there any ninjas here?” and if there’s a ninja within earshot, he’ll be compelled to respond.
Honestly, I'd be happy if they finished the Battle lands or the Bi-cycle lands from Amonkhet. Either way they need to finish these 'cycles' and give enemy coloured combos more land support. Boros needs it, desperately.
For those saying it's not Harry Potter influenced...it looks pretty Harry Potter influenced here if you ask me.

this was discussed in the other thread, wizard schools and houses within them is nothing new. its just a fantasy trope. it was popularized by harry potter but existed long before harry potter. within magic's own history even.
i'm reminded of innistrad where everyone was oh so insistent that the set was banking off twilight's popularity as if werewolves and vampires hadn't existed prior to that trash.
I think I've learned to treat Magic cards like baseball cards: keep 'em in a binder in numerical order, don't play with 'em, try to finish the set and just keep my head down.

Fun fact is the first incarnation of this is Scholomance (not the World of Warcraft one) which was even mentioned as a kind of "pop culture reference" of sorts in Dracula (the original novel.) Basically creepy mages school in eastern Europe with a sea dragon guarding it and Satan as a headmaster hahaha. The school would steal children from the nearby town to become students.

The thing with the Twilight focus, in my mind, wasn't so much about there being vampires & werewolves, but how just before that both of those things got super popular years prior between Underworld, Van Helsing, Twilight, & others and even more so than that was the whole vampires vs. werewolves, which I've never understood. They are not mongooses and snakes kind of rivalry, they are just mystical creatures that just so happen to hunt the same food. I find that "rivalry" the most boring part of Innistrad.
As for Harry Potter coming through in this set it's not a surprise, while there have been many fantasy schools throughout literature and media WotC definitely will target the more famous parts of memorable "fantasy school" and it will feel like Harry Potter as that is really the most popular franchise one would think in this environment. There is no way for WotC to avoid that.

Right, as were many other aspects but HP was the one that garnered the most attention. If you also read the other thread you'll see that I mentioned a video game reference in BoF II. So it's not only me in this regard.

My predictions! Also, we have to consider that this is "the" school for mages, so the Houses represented probably teach the fundamentals of each color pairing.
"Silverquil"WB - Hard to pin the name down, although I could see Silver being related to the moon, and perhaps some sort of "Twilight"-esque light/darkness. I would assume maybe also tied with Fliers? "Witherbloom"BG I am imagining this one to be heavily tied to either counters or tokens in addition to the regular ol' graveyard shenanigans. If my guess is right, Witherbloom is the name of the Black Green House (come on guys, I don't think it's Red White ;)). The name implies some kind of sacrifice for value mechanic, heavily tied to maybe plants or *Fingers Crossed* Saprolings and Treefolk/Fungus. "Lorehold"GU - Another guess on the name, but with "Lore" in the name I would guess that it is somewhat blue, but does not sound like a Red/Blue pair. Not sure what the mechanics would be. Maybe a Draw 2 theme but in Blue/Green again? "Quandrix"UR - Quandrix sounds super Izzet to me, and so I would imagine this is the Red/Blue color pairing. Quandry's definition is something perplexing, and Rix is a word usually to describe reigning or ruling, if I remember correctly. I could see this house focusing heavily on mastering complex spells or something. "Prismari"RW - Another guess, but it does have a Red/White ring to it. Possibly Red and White are like enchantment or artifact focused this time around?
Names sound cool. Anyone that attended university knows dorms and lecture halls have names. "Do you study in Fletcher Hall?" etc. Them being houses isn't exclusive to Potter, only adapted by it.
A simple way to look at this. If you see something and the only reference you can make is HP then it's highly likely you haven't been exposed enough to this trope as it's highly likely HP stole it from something and something has stolen is from HP since.
Perfect time for Library of Strixhaven to somewhat resemble a Library of Alexandria.

They probably cant say that, even if its true, might be a "Copyright" pitfall if they do.
