The original Nicol Bolas, the Ravager art was much better - it felt younger, wilder, more primeval than this one.
However -
This Nicol Bolas, the Arisen art is just magnificent. This is precisely how Bolas would choose to depict himself on a Magic card. Easily his most glorious portrayal.
Gitrog monster is a bit too changed for my liking, but it's definitely got the horror things down.
It's his "second version": With the arrival of Emrakul, the monster became even more horrific, slowly losing any resemblance to a creature of the natural world. https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Gitrog_monster

shame that. giant frog horror worked just fine on its own. didn't need to become a tentacled unnatural thing. then again, they spent a lot of that set tearing down what actually worked in favor of what didn't. just like every other time eldrazi showed up.
anyway... not a fan of this new version of the monster. the bolas art is... okay.
Yes! I need that Bolas!
Somehow I missed the boat on the first print so any reprint is welcome.
As for Gitrog Monster, I already have an original foil and prefer that art (it's actually one of my favorite commander decks which is only missing chains and bazaar to be fully optimized)
Yeah you can definitely see the influence Emrakul's presence has had on the 'rog. Stellar art for it, though Imma break from others here and say I like the Bolas artwork. It makes him look like an "innocent" yet ferocious dragon by nature before being corrupted by the quest for godhood.
On a sidenote: It looks like Bolas has white socks on his horns in the planeswalker art

This could be our first illustration from the Elder Dragon War. Since this is Bolas before he sparked, and most of his pre-Planeswalker life was spent waging war against his siblings, one of those armies below is probably his, clashing with the forces of Chromium Rhuell or Arcades Sabboth.
I'm digging the Gitrog monster art, but if the picture Gavin posted on Twitter is the "normal version", then I really don't like the excessive color grading...
The front of Bolas looks goofy to me. It's like a panel from a sports manga.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
It truly is too bad that we used our scales of judgment for...well.. judgment. The owl of wisdom is so terrible - it really has ruined quite a few judge promos that I would have otherwise sought out.
i wish the rainbow wasn't there for Gitrog monster I can't see the art that well
I disagree entirely. I think it's butt-ugly. I know, just opinions, but this one does not show him off as a dragon. He looks like a DragonBall Z character...
Yes, Rudy from Alpha investiments, Core2019 will never increase in price, it is a bad investiment in comparison to other coresets.
I like the new Gitrog' Monster art, hope in the next innistrad set we get a new version for it.
Like the art for Nicol Bolas the arisen, but don't like the art for the ravager (doesn't look like a dragon, the original art at least had a ressemblance to dragonic features in the art. The new one looks like a demon at most).
Bolas the Ravager: the Art is Bad
Bolas the Arisen : the Art is Stunning Amazing
Gitrog Monster : Love the eldrazified Frog
Owl Watermarks : Horrible and almost ruin the promos (not just these)
Choices for promo : Great

I mean, he's not wrong. 2019's value is buoyed almost entirely by high demand reprints that could be reprinted again at any time and crater their value (Scapeshift, Omniscience, Crucible of Worlds). Compared to the Core Set before it in Origins, and you have a lot of first printings holding good value, and the core set after it has the highest EV of any Core Set since M11.

Its even more ugly on the real cards.

Beside that, decent cards.
