It's funny - this card feels like a commander card but every time I thought of a card to use with it it seemed like a bad muldrotha on the back side and a bad seed born Muse on the front. I think that the home for this card is some card value deck in standard but unless we get an arcum's astrolabe type of cheap value I don't think crucible of worlds makes the cut in standard
Well it's a "bad muldrotha" for 3 instead of 6 and a "bad seedborn muse" for 3 instead of 5. Would you say Lightning Bolt is a bad Lava Axe? ^^
it's a bad seedborn muse for 5 instead of 5. and the bad muldrotha is a bad muldrotha - it is as fragile (artifact vs creature), is limited to snow, once a turn and doesn't have a 6/6 body. the mana cost of 3 means it slots better into a competitive 60 card deck - but I don't think that is an option for either anyways.
it is interesting that the 2 cards you mentioned that deal with snow are neither snow nor permanents. Best use is to get another marit lage from marit lage's slumber

Both sides cost 3, I'm not sure how you're getting it being 5?

Whoops my bad totally misread the card. But Marit Lage will just sac itself to the legend rule regardless, so maybe it’s not the best unless you’re getting back lands.
What a strange lounging pose. He looks like he slipped on the ice and fell.
Both effects are powerful, but the staff is arguably the better half of the card. In this day and age, you don't just attack with a 3/3 and have it live...
I like this card a lot. It's powerful, but in it's own way.
I also think it's one of those cards that will just get stronger as time goes on and more Snow cards are released. I'm both happy and sad that snow is few and far between, as it gives me some time to work on a proper Commander deck for him.
Actually, I kind of wish one of the Commander decks coming out with this set would have been a Snow themed deck instead of an Elf deck. It would have given them a chance to reprint some of the older snow stuff and give it the new fancy border, as well as bring some more snow lands into printing.
That's like comparing library larcenist to sword of fire and ice . Equipment provides an immediate, reusable effect and in those cases provides a way for the critter to survive the experience of combat and possibly push through an otherwise impenetrable defense.

Equipment is also dead with no creatures, while the Larcenist at least can swing by itself. Equipment also tends to need a hefty up-front mana cost in order to do anything, even if that cost is split over multiple turns.
Honestly, the similar Bomat Courier attack trigger is actually quite good - it either forces removal or I eventually get at least one new card out of the guy by going Hellbent, then ramming this guy into a blocker and sacrificing it after blocks. And, sadly, Bomat Courier is looking more viable than Sword of Fire and Ice in Modern right now.

I can already see a bunch of Winter-themed Muldrotha decks using this to great effect!
