I'm cool and all with the Kaldheim/Phyrexia setting, though I think it ought to have been spread over two sets 1) to introduce the plane and then 2) introduce the antagonist(s) in the second set with hints in the first.
That might have been better received than what I'm seeing here. But we all know What-See doesn't operate that way.
EDIT: I have NO CLUE as to how this will tie in to Strixhaven in the least. Maybe a Phyrexian Newt a la Xantcha calibre infiltrates the school and they use that to enhance their magical powers to cause further mayhem on the multiverse? Maybe? I can haz storeelines?

HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset. Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
It seems pretty obvious to me that this is just teasing the future Phyrexian threat to come and not the core conflict of this set. Not sure why so many people are getting bent out of shape over this.
And this is a great card. It’s not as oppressive as the original but it’s still very useful and powerful. This is how they should be designing powerful legendaries.
This is probably in the “sleeper agent” phase of their process,
before things get super hardcore.
Still, they may very well be setting up for Phyrexian Ragnarok (could there be a more metal concept?)
This was my thought, they're here to take a look and grab some loot, hence "Raider". Considering we've seen god-imbued artifacts, dimension-hopping cyborg squirrels, and at least one culture centered on mastered artifice, this has to be a high priority target for conversion for them. As would Strixhaven if it is the height of sorcerous craft, and Inniatrad for, well, everything. A moon of metal infused with a horror greater than reality orbiting a world of monsters sounds exactly like the Phyrexian dream home.
The other thing I hope is that we are going to see the multiverse opened up by this because I am tired of isolationism. Let planeswalkers jump from A to Z with no inbetween process, but other creatures with the right know how can recite the alphabet of planes between A and Z to get there as well. It would be like being Superman versus owning an airplane - same method of travel, but drastically different in efficiency.

Because even if this is the only card this set it means future visits to the plane are ruined.

Why? A Praetor scout doesn’t mean the Phyrexian horde is going to invade Keldheim. And even if they did invade WotC doesn’t really do sad endings any more, so Keldheim would most likely just fend off the Phyrexian invasion.
A preator is hardly a scout considering it's one of the five heads of new phyrexia. The issue with this is it pushes out any native born antagonists they might have explored. Eaters of the Dead was one of my favorite 'viking stories' and that level of coolness is now lost.
Yeah i have to agree with some of the sentiments here.
Adding a phyrexian praetor and that element to the story is cool, but it undermines the entire plane/story right out of the gate. Even if its just one card (and it wont be) it steals the entire focus
The story implications are cool, but they shouldve done it over two sets, or had very subtle hints the first time around with a return set emphasizing raiding/invasion more.
Maybe theyll pull it off. Maybe we'll get phyrexians popping up in small amounts in the next few sets leading to some larger conflict. However; their story telling ability recently leaves me doubtful.
I do agree with the person who said theyd like to see more plane hopping and accessibility to nonwalkers. There was a lot of that in the prerevisionist, premending, old stories and it definitely helped the universe feel more expansive as well as connected. Even post revisionist weatherlight/urza era stories plane hopped/blended pretty regularly within themselves. Despite following walkers from plane to plane the current process does feel very isolated. More than ever since we only get one shots instead of blocks now. Everything feels so contained in a nice neat bubble which does detract from a core storyline concept.
These complaints about Vorinclex "ruining" Kaldheim are very similar to the earlier unfounded complaints that this wasn't a snow set and only a snow set. There are several people here who want WotC to make the set that they fantasized in their brain and even if that's included will still be upset if other people get what they want too.
No set is going to be made just for you, individual random Magic player. They are going to be telling dynamic stories that have parts that appeal to many different demographics. Being disappointed that you weren't the only one catered to is a recipe for lifelong disappointment.

Okay, since the speculation is that Vorinclex is just one (or one of a few) Phyrexian card(s), how cool would it have been, had we gotten the entire set spoiled without any mention of Phyrexians; and then in the Commander decks - revealed only after the whole set is revealed - we find out about the Phyrexian presence by a few cards hinting at e. g. a minor Elven antagonist having been sponsored by Vorinclex.
I have a feeling that might have been the plan (except with Phyrexians in the main set/boosters), so there is a real chance this leak turned into a literal spoiler, because there could have been two-hundred revealed cards and the entire deserved hype of the Viking-plane and Phyrexians as an afterthought, a post-credit scene of TCG previews, if you want.
This might be a true case of a spoiler ruining a grand setup. When you go check for spoilers, your experience may get spoiled. It's in the name. Now it's time to swallow the bitter pill and wait with ranting until you have seen the full picture as intended.
EDIT: Though the mention that you can win with poison in Kaldheim-Limited may be an indication that there is at least something more to be revealed, so maybe the setup is a little less... subtle.
Heck, every day I wake up, I don't go out and kill people - and I'm rewarded by not having legions of enemies! Amazing how that works.
Although ninjas are experts of camouflage and concealment, they are actually horrible liars. This means that no matter where you are, you can shout out, “Are there any ninjas here?” and if there’s a ninja within earshot, he’ll be compelled to respond.
I've been waiting for the Phyrexians to show up ever since Bolas left the picture, and this is how I hoped they would do it: Phyrexians showing up on all types of planes until the threat is addressed at its source.
A preator is hardly a scout considering it's one of the five heads of new phyrexia. The issue with this is it pushes out any native born antagonists they might have explored. Eaters of the Dead was one of my favorite 'viking stories' and that level of coolness is now lost.
We already know Vorinclex is not the antagonist of this set. They showed us the antagonist in the set trailer.
I'm imagining Jin-Gitaxias with a cape trying to pass as a student and enter the school. It's hilarious.
A preator is hardly a scout considering it's one of the five heads of new phyrexia.
It's Vorinclex we are talking about. He's dumber than a brick. He is not bringing out a secret and convoluted plan to compleat Kaldheim. He's just here for some snacks.
These complaints about Vorinclex "ruining" Kaldheim are very similar to the earlier unfounded complaints that this wasn't a snow set and only a snow set.
Wow, almost a manual strawman. Gonna cry now that snow is confirmed?
How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Phyrexians are the best spice for the drama as they get you to care about the fate of a world as you know in your mind that will fade away.
Glissa Sunseeker was compleated by Vorinclex ( ), her own body naturally had metal on it. The Virdian Elves would be hunted down by Phyrexians, including those compleated who had become part of a faction known as 'The Vicious Swarm'. Ezuri, an elven leader and bandit, saw this threat early but he was captured by Jin-Gitaxis's faction ( ) and compleated.
So we are on another plane with elves, and these elves have a special connection to metal they wear. We have another of these elven leader types. Oh hey, we also have changelings who are and and they look rather...odd and foreboding.
The challenge with any ongoing storyline that exists in a vacuum (be it a plane, a post apocalyptic world, a city state etc.) is what moment matters the most. It seems WOTC decided that the moment that matters the most is when the phyrexian invasion started. From their perspective that makes total sense and let's be honest, phyrexians being what they are, an invasion was inevitable.
These complaints about Vorinclex "ruining" Kaldheim are very similar to the earlier unfounded complaints that this wasn't a snow set and only a snow set.

I honestly don't know what you're getting at or why you're upset. Or how this relates to a straw man. I'm happy snow is in the set and I wasn't one of the people that complained about how WotC tricked us and the set is ruined because the set didn't have snow. I'm happy Vorinclex is in the set and excited for pretty much every bit of the set, although the tribal elements can get a little tired when used so much. But I'm overall very happy with it.
Yeah, so honestly I don't know if you're confusing me with someone else or are just in a sour mood and not making sense, but either way, no offense taken, buddy.

People were pretty much reasonable expecting snow since, well, skybreen, and no one demanded a "only a snow set"
Looks like wotc tried to make some tricks, hiding snow (and Vorinclex/phyrexians) for a big reveal probably. But as usual leaks ruined their plans.

Nah there were people that wanted just a snow set and were complaining about other areas that weren't snowy, tribal stuff, and other things that diluted what they wanted beforehand. In fact Zendikar was brought up in comparison to complain that those sets were ruined also because of tribal elements, eldrazi, and other stuff that wasn't just the "adventure world" part that they liked only.
Snow is popular with some, elves are with others, the norse stuff with others, phyrexians with others. Hitting a few popular marks makes it so the set has something for everyone instead of only doing snow and excluding the people who don't like it or who wanted phyrexians or whatever instead. This way more people are happy because they got something to like. The people who get mad because their favorite thing wasn't the sole focus are setting themselves up for disappointment.
Personally I hope the phyrexian invasion is slow and really happens in a return set, with other praetors seeded on other planes. The phyrexian viking raiders sounds like a fun idea and makes "Immigrant Song" pop in my head. I'm excited to see if they can pull it off with this multiplane story arch.
