Edit: Found the answer to my own question. Nope they are not.
Yeah sadly not. Really a miss by wotc but i guess they got scared with the brawl decks having one kinda of staple. (but lets be honest, none of the new commander cards from Ikoria and Zendikar would see much play. Maybe, just maybe AnowonEnigma Thief , Jirina Kudro, Kalamax, the Stormsire, Slippery Bogbonder (but to be fair no card would shift standard as badly as Oko or Omnath have...
(I would have loved for some of those commander cards that are released with standard sets to be playable in standard (as they come in collectors boosters of the set as well...))
Would have made Brawl more interesting, thats for sure.
As much as I like snow and would be disappointed by its exclusion did people think that snow would show up in the Commander decks? It might be in the set, just not in the decks.
I think you may be misunderstanding. It is an aesthetic BUT with the addition of YULE coins there is an added component. Much like snow mana is an added component in MTG. The point is Ubisoft acknowledging that there can and should be a little extra something in the game that is on theme, on season and LISTENS to their market. A nice touch if you ask me. Maybe Snow mana is coming in Kaldheim still, I won't give up hope. But WotC's deaf and dismissive attitude towards long time fans and customers tells me expect the worst. Glad Ubisoft knows how it should be done.
Do the Yule Coins mechanically alter the mechanical abilities you have in game, or are they a collectible that does not directly alter gameplay?
If the "little bit extra" you are referring to is in reference to a non-mechanical component, then there will no doubt be some deeper cuts to Norse mythology in the cards that we have yet to see.
Unless the Yule coins change how the player character functions in some capacity, I do not think the comparison is apt, is what I'm getting at. If snow mana appears and has no mechanical component, if we see snow creatures and lands, but no snow mechanics, then that would be comparable to the Yule coins, but I think that would be equally dissatisfying to those who want snow to show up.
Additionally, it seems odd to say that Ubisoft, of all companies, listens to long-term fans and their market.
I would personally like snow to return as well, and I want to be clear that I am in agreement that WotC has problems. I just don't think this particular situation deserves the amount of vitriol we have seen in the forums.
Playing Assassin's Creed Valhalla yesterday and all of a sudden my settlement goes into Yuletide, SNOW everywhere and Yule side missions. A nice touch by Ubisoft. Even Yule coins. So yeah even they get it and WotC can't pull their head out of their arse.
Does snow have a mechanical meaning in AC: Valhalla, or is it just aesthetic? Because I think the MtG art shows plenty of snow aesthetically.

As was asked previously, where the hell did everyone even get the idea that snow needs to be in this set OR ELSE from? The only thing that made that even remotely a possibility was Kaldheim being a nordic plane. But you know, the vikings didn't constantly live in snowy environments. The majority of Scandinavia is not snow and ice-covered. Since Wizards went with the 'multiple subrealms connected via world tree' idea and one of the realms is often depicted as ice-covered, it stands to reason that others are not. Could snow have been a potential mechanic? Sure! But this strange, irrational anger about something that was a) never hinted at (no Kaldheim-teasing cards before had mechanical snow connections) b) was something that was brought up pretty recently, seemingly only because a choice few people really wanted to see it (which isn't bad, but where do some of them always get the idea from that the majority of people concurs with them?) and now leads to these tirades makes it really seem like people were hoping to get disappointed so that they could rage about it.
I just don't think this particular situation deserves the amount of vitriol we have seen in the forums.
If not now (with the release of a viking themed set on a plane only described as being a big snowball) then when? It would be a huge and massive flavour fail for a set like this to not have snow.
Please, where is it confirmed there is no snow in the set??
Ranar was speculated to use snow mana. But he doesn't, instead he utilizes 0 for the foretell-matters mechanic.
LOL. Speculation based off a fuzzy image that could've been interpreted as anything doesn't mean it's true. People assumed it was snow because they wanted it so badly to be. (In fairness I'm guilty of that assumption too).
Oko was speculated to be in this set, and he was tied directly to snow according to the leak, but he is not present, instead its Tibalt.
Again, loose speculation does not make it true. That's why it's called "rumours."
The DFC duals are not snow.
Why should they be? The original six weren't. That's pretty illogical thinking there person thing (I don't know how you identify)
We can pretty much wrap up this hysteria solely on the deeply embedded desire for snow. I was hoping for it too however if it's not then that's cool (:D ). I won't bust a genital.

We had Snow within the last two years. Modern Horizons may not have been an expansion set, but it's clear that they understand that people want it. And we're getting a Modern Horizons 2 in the near future, that could continue that.
However, defining an expansion, a plane as snow based makes things difficult long term. This is our first real impression of Kaldheim. If snow becomes a defining feature, then we can't come back unless snow can be handled properly. Conversely, if it starts without snow, or with minimal snow, then we can experience the Fimbulwinter in the future, with a return.
There are infinite possible planes for them to feature snow. The multiverse is not running out of locales.
Doesn't change how not having snow on a plane described like this (and people have been hyped for delivering) would be a massive letdown. I'm still hoping for some nice snowy full art lands though (even if they're not specifically "snow covered").

Or the base the "hysteria" on it being a massive letdown by not having snow on a plane only described as being full of snow? Again, subversion of expectations is ridiculous. That being said, I like the general art direction of what we've seen so far, but still disappointed if it's so... summery.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't there some design/complexity issues with Snow for standard and thats why it was in Modern Horizons (which was suppose to be where they can print stuff for modern with don't need to balance out for standard)?
Might have been they tried it and it got cut....or its in the set just not featured yet. In fact I think we only know of Foretell as a mechanic right?

I can't find any specific article about that, but it's difficult to go through old DailyMtG articles. Their archive is unwieldy.
I would believe it though. Snow by itself does nothing. Cards have to directly reference Snow in some capacity for it to have a mechanical purpose. Snow Mana is a weird concept for anyone being introduced to it, because it has its own symbol but no card directly references the fact that the color or colorless mana it's producing is Snow Mana. We had a similar problem with the Colorless symbol not that long ago, and that one is more direct. Mechanically, snow may not be complex, but it is parasitic in an odd way.
There's only 65 snow cards in existence now, and a handful more that reference snow lands or permanents. Adding more would be great, but in many ways, it would be like adding more Arcane cards.
How dare we expect snow in such a set? Preposterous! We are dumb and entitled!

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Honestly? Despite the fact that I love snow, I won't be too upset if it doesn't happen. My two biggest wishes for snow sets would be:
1: A "Return to Ice Age", probably in a supplemental set like Modern Horizons 2. It could further explore Kjeld and Balduvia, or even the more ancient kingdom of Storgard.
2: A Christmas/holiday/Winter themed Return to Eldraine, hinted at by the snow-covered Secret Lair.
Kaldheim/other new snow plane would be a distant third.
But for now, I agree that we should wait and see. We have only seen the tiniest number of cards from the set.

I understand that it's easy to make the connection of Cold Home and Snow, and I do not fault anyone for making that connection, but getting angry about an assumption, no matter how reasonable, is unhelpful.

I don't see the mechanical snow connection on that Planechase card. Nor in any other Kaldheim-teasing card. Muraganda explicitely was said to have dinosaurs, while you are basing snow as a mechanic being mandatory for Kaldheim on the fact that some parts we have seen in the past of the plane have been snow-covered (why no snow in Tarkir then? Or any other plane with snow on it). This isn't 'subverting expectations' because in the end there was nothing beforehand that pointed to snow being a mechanic of Kaldheim. It's more preposterous than saying that because I personally wanted the two color gods in Theros to be included in Beyond Death Wizards deliberately 'subverted my expectations' by not putting them in there. At least we knew from the last Theros set that they exist!
There isn't always snow in Iceland, Norway, or the rest of Scandinavia. This isn't an Ice Age, or anything else for snow to necessarily be an auto include mechanically. This is a set about bringing aspects of a culture to the forefront: Tribalism, pantheons, combat, and mysticism...
It doesn't need snow to feel incredibly similar to older Scandinavian flavor.
Anyways...
I suspect Runes will be artifact tokens that allow you to foretell. Perhaps a variant of scrying where you exile the card and draw it the following turn if you pay like 1 or something, otherwise it goes to the bottom of your library or graveyard?

No planes are mechanically related to snow. According to your logic, snow shouldn't be a mechanic. feeding grounds also doesn't reference dinosaurs mechanically. So there shouldn't be dinosaurs on Muraganda, it's unreasonable to expect them.
Kaldheim was the snow plane. If they wanted to do vikings without doing snow, they should have gone to Valla.

This is fallacy. Planechase came out after Muraganda was first mentioned in Future Sight, and even then it was known as a prehistoric, dinosaur-esque kind of plane. Imperiosaur for example. At this point Kaldheim was assumed to be the snow plane based on a novelty card in a novelty product with no further reference point prior to that.
