I think I've learned to treat Magic cards like baseball cards: keep 'em in a binder in numerical order, don't play with 'em, try to finish the set and just keep my head down.
Had to scroll through half the article to find out why they were using genderless pronouns for Niko, but I'm glad they addressed it.
"Normally, when creating a character that conforms to traditional gender roles, the choices made to accentuate attractiveness, power, confidence, and stylishness follow relatively narrow patterns that have been culturally and socially constructed. With Niko, we made sure to explore aesthetic choices that they would make to deliberately diverge from those conventional notions."
... and I'm glad they addressed this too. One step at a time, Wizards.
Niko looks cool, and hot elf alert. Was low-key hoping for a degree of separation between Valkyries and Angels allowing a Valkyrie planeswalker. But I guess it makes sense in magic that they're just Angels.
Inb4 angry nerds.
He was even given a small shout out about being a Bolas walker in the War of the Spark art book so he's canon at least.

Nice to see a non-binary representation here. Now all we need is for Chandra and Nissa to officially be a thing again and we're all filled with teh feelz.

forget it that’s definatly a Pandora box concept of ending that especially since it looks like they are phasing out Nissa based from the ZNR ending
besides Chandra confessed it was Gideon she had a crush on, the whole time.
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

Non binary, gender identity . . . oh God really . . ?
Yea its sad how WotC wastes money into this kind of stuff, but they clearly "serve" an audience thats into this.
Plenty people are not and its certainly a more annoying part of Magic that will just fester the issues and produce fronts (which is divisive for the fanbase, but people that are into this wont care for the fanbase anyway, they just want their fix).
----
As it is now, the entire "gender identity" bandwagon is a selling jiggle for them, it tickles people on either fronts and produces some press in either of the channels.
For anybody else its just meaningless nonsense thats pushed down your throat, not the elegant way to have any of these topics presented.
----
Would appreciate the games background a lot more if sexuality would be completely taken out of the game, but thats not gonna happen for quite some time.
The two characters seem boring and generic, not really interested in them as they are (putting more and more planeswalker out with each set is just making each of them look less and less interesting, its kind of the same issue they had with making a new walker of the same over and over again, they simply make too many).

Trolling. MTGSalvation is open and inclusive to all walks of life and orientations as well. This is not adding sexuality to anything - it's accepting that there are a variety of people among society.

Gender identity isn’t sexuality, and both are important parts for the human experience. Further it hurts zero people who matter, and helps, so it’s a net gain. It’s much more likely to get new people into Magic who should be there as well.
Is it just me, or did Wizards just imply that Nadier, Agent of Twilight is from Kaldheim in Tyvar's article? His shadow elves-and-wood elves-must-get-along-recently story looks quite a lot like the Kaldheim elf situation, he's black-aligned just like a Kaldheim shadow elf, and he does look slimmer than the explicitly-described-as-muscular Tyvar.
Also, before Wizards explicitly described Niko as non-binary and blue-aligned, I thought from Niko's initial blurb and art that the character was female and red-aligned ("screw destiny", no malice, desire to get physical, and all). While, IMO, Wizards did a good job of not making Niko's non-binary-ness a defining feature of that walker's character, they could have done a much better job on how blue-aligned Niko is. To this day, I still believe Niko is UR-aligned.

This times 100. It takes absolutely nothing away from you if you're hetero / cis, but means a lot to those whose identities are traditionally underrepresented.
If this bothers someone, they need to take a fair few moments of introspection to figure out why that is.

Niko's entire character arc is based on subversion of norms. They're defying fate on one of the few places that wholly rely on it. Niko was meant to be a super successful athlete, not some hero, but here they are doing hero things somewhere else. If anything, being nonbinary serves that character arc.
The Einir-and-Skoti story Tyvar's article brings up reminds me of Norse mythology's Vanir and Aesir, respectively.
Also, I guess that Tyvar is one of those younger sons of kings who believes that, as Prince Corin puts it in The Horse and His Boy, "princes have all the fun". (This also explains his lack of jealousy towards his older brother the king and Tyvar's lack of desire to rule.)

I figured that was on purpose honestly. I wonder if we will see both divine factions.
As always folks and folx just ignore the haters and don't give em any attention.
For a crowd that sure likes to complain about 'special snowflakes' they sure get their feathers ruffled easily. Characters are out for only a few hours and they gotta object.
Both of these new planeswalkers look pretty cool. I admittedly wish Niko had more Theran attire but maybe that's an indication that they're pretty well adjusted to planesewalking by now. I also had to look up their names, as at first these seemed more Italian than Greek, but my assumptions were wrong, as they are indeed Greek and fit the world. I like that Niko's personality and powerset is focused upon the perfection of the senses and body and would like to see more warriors and other martial class types in U.
Edit: I'm happy to see Tybalt but I admittedly was a little disappointed with Ramaz's absence.
I really like the aesthetic for Tyvar but I'm of course I have a positive bias for beefy elf dudes. I'm glad they chose to expand beyond the 'Legolas' and 'Arwen' body frames for Kaldheim's elves.

And maybe there where they might add in gods not part of a classic 5 card cycle.

heck the same could be said for Tyvar taking Nissa's place
Base on ZNR ending nissa's might be phasing out
so tibalt is confirmed which means the myth that oko in the set playing the role of Loki is busted

You knew it was going to happen, not an if but when. 1st Planeswoker, there will be more get used to it.
As for the buff elf, if he and Radha, Heart of Keld ever hook up there will be some beefy elves out there someday.
