Okay, at least one of the three-colored legends is not some stupid newly created character. At least some good news after the "Llanowar Abomination"...

Okay he really plays fun as a commander, he died, he wipes and then you recast him to make zombies.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Nevinyrral's ability to make 2/2 Zombie tokens does open up to go an Aristocrat strategy since he replaces battlefield presence. Phyrexian Altar to sac creatures to pay for Nevinyrral's manacost.
Wait ... he doesnt say "non-token creature that died this turn" ...
Well, that produces a hell lot more tokens then usual, especially as it produces more tokens on its own tokens.
With Phyrexian Altar and 6 creatures you actually get to cast this commander, produce 6 fresh zombies and then sacrifice these + this guy to cast him again from the Command zone, producing 13 new zombies in the process ...
That sounds pretty broken ... (probably a lot more combos like that viable with this guy)
With "Partner" this would have been much more interesting to get some late game value and a cheaper Partner to go with.
They’re only doing mono-color partners now. All of the multicolor partners in this set are reprints from C16, and they never did a 3-color partner commander.

Yeah, this is going to be one to watch. Definitely an exciting commander to build around.
He could be really fun with things like Gift of Immortality and any number of the other enchantments in black similar to minion’s return, you just need a sac outlet that isn’t destroyed by his own ability.
Infinite combo there: as long as you can sac at least 3 to phyrexian altar and play this card he creates infinite zombies and mana.
Combo breakdown
Altar in play, 6 mana, and 3 creatures
1. Sac creatures for 3 mana, tap 3.
2. Play Nevin.
3. Ability trigger on stack, sack Nevin for 1 mana.
4. Create 4 zombies, sac for mana, tap 3.
5. Play Nevin again.
6. Ability trigger on stack, sac for mana again.
7. Create 9 zombies, sac for mana.
8. Play Nevin again again, sac for mana, create 19 zombies.
9. Repeat infinitely.
- Cast him from command zone.
- First ability activates, in response sacrifice him to something like High Market.
- second ability activates, blows up the board.
- First ability activates next on the stack, makes that many zombies for everything you just killed?

Protection from reason (Decadent_Creed can't be blocked, targeted, dealt damage, or enchanted by reason.)

Wow that seems disgusting. Maybe not in super competitive metas, but just having that ace in the hole ready seems cool.

Note that his last ability is a "may", and requires a mana payment. You don't have to blow up the board when you sac him if you don't want to.
Oh I thought he would just be another mono black partner
didn't exspected him for the esper legend
anyway Congradulations we finally have boardwipe theme legend
But Child of Alara is so much better, more colors, cheaper, bigger, destroys actually all non-land permanents.
Quite disappointing what this guy offers, even with all the weird wording for Hexproof and all its fancy abilities are pretty bad ...

One plus that he has over Child is that you can run him as Esper Superfriends. Since he doesn't destroy ALL nonlands, you can wipe your opponents boards with him with minimal impact on your own.

Another strategy is to get him in the graveyard and bring back with sac costing revival like Champion of Stray Souls, Dread Return, Whisper, Blood Liturgist, Living Death, and Living End.
