So you're saying that there was in fact at least one conspiracy discussed here? Hmmmm
I'm saying that using the unrealistic theory of MTGS' resident conspiracy theorist (no offense, CSJ, but you did once claim that we need to get more concerned about EMPs) isn't solid ground to build much of an argument. Much ado about nothing, as I said.
I don't think all of the other posters here are doing that. I do believe that there is a vocal minority of the community that tends towards that, though.
If you say so, I don't really see it. If anything, you and Cranky seems to be the vocal minority behaving in tiresome ways. I'm honestly unsure what you're hoping to achieve here, it just seems like you're trolling at this point.
So yes, there was a conspiracy posted? And somehow, of the people who've taken issue with me mentioning it, the person who posted it isn't one of them? Seems like much ado about nothing lol
Wait, you're claiming that the only vocal minority are the two people with an opinion that doesn't reflect the general user of a small, niche fan site? I'm not sure you are understanding the words we are using.
How am I trolling?
What exactly are any of us trying to achieve on a backwater Magic the Gathering site? I wasn't aware there was anything to achieve here.
Yes there was a conspiracy posted. When you talked about how Wotc may be releasing TWD cards to push players you don't like out of the community. Yes that is an unlikely and unfounded conspiracy that you brought up.
And yes you are being uncivil and extremely rude. And misinterpreting things in order to paint the community in a bad light. And making dubious claims about how victimized you've been by "the bad people" and how that gives you a right to be awful to others. And if anyone points it out, you say, "What, little old me?" All of that makes people believe that you're not acting in good faith. Seriously just act civilly. No one comes here because they want to be the target of yours or Cranky's vitriol.

Yes, certainly not in the sense you were describing
And if they were intentionally pushing toxic players out of their community, I wouldn't find that to be abuse. Not a very difficult concept, really. Which part are you unable to understand?
Abuse as in "use (something) to bad effect or for a bad purpose; misuse", yes I think it would be abusive. Moderating the community should be done through much better, more calculated means.
Yes, you have posted in this thread. My point stands. If anything, it is made stronger.
Good to know.
Moderating the community should be done in a better way than releasing a product that might offend a vocal minority within it? Do tell us how you think that is abusive.
Intentionally designing products specifically to try to exclude people you don't like is designing products with a bad effect, bad purpose, and not how products are supposed to be designed. Hence, as per the definition provided, that would be abusive use of product design.
Releasing products 'that might offend a vocal minority' is not, but that's not what you said and you know it.
I mean, yeah, it is good to know, as good to know as you stating that you've posted.
This is very circular. Do you have a point? Is there a different lingua franca we could be using to communicate this more accurately? I generally mostly know English, but I could try a different dialect of it.
Do *you* have a point?
I've made my argument/s about what I think of this product. If you'd like to respond to that, feel free. But gesturing vaguely at how you don't like other peoples' arguments is not going to be constructive. What am I supposed to say in response to "I have yet to see a reasonable criticism of this product that doesn't boil down to a slipepry slope fallacy, entitlement, or just plain emotional knee jerk foolishness"? Try to debate whether or not some of the criticisms I and other have made are reasonable? Why would I do all the work for you? I'll respond to your argument against my argument when you've actually made one.

I didn't say they did that. I said I wished they had. A canyon of difference. Funny how I am being accused of being obtuse here. I'm sorry that for some odd reason you decided that you fell into that group.
Have I painted the community in a bad light? I've mentioned that a small amount of it are bad, and how so, but every community has good and bad members. I feel like you're taking a lot of this very personally and misconstrued things. I don't know, or really care, why you are choosing to behave as such.
Someone else had mentioned that they had only seen the vitriol one way, and I responded that it was from both sides of the issue. Both statements were anecdotal, and I never claimed victimization, simply stated an experience I'd had that was relevant to one someone else had stated.
I am behaving very civilly, and am beinf treated with undue emotional weirdness from you and a few others that seem to exist in the same echo chamber as you. I'm really starting to see why you had the odd compulsion to feel called out when I mentioned toxic members of the Magic community.
I mean, the page before this one (page 10) has multiple posts accusing WotC of bribing the RC but hey, I guess it isn't a conspiracy when it validates you.
Wait...you think that's a conspiracy? You have a pretty low bar for what is a conspiracy if you think one person bringing that up is a conspiracy.
The entitled people are the ones making claims that they deserve easy and i.mediate access in the form they want it, and are used to it, to whichever cards they want. They they are entitled to decide what is and isn't magic. That they know how Magic is supposed to be enjoyed, and that others shouldn't be allowed to enjoy it that way.
Where are these people? No one here is doing that.
If you don't look for these things, or you avoid mirrors, you likely won't see it.
It's weird that it's you and others here with similar opinions that seems to be insulting others more than anyone else.

Did I mention your argument as being a fallacy, or just simply uncompelling? If your point is not worth supporting or restating, why should I bother twisting into being so? I didn't make an argument against your point because that was not my intent. I'm not sure why you think that it should be.
Is mentioning that there are in fact toxic members of the Magic community like some sort of fly paper for toxic members of the Magic community?
EDIT:
And exclusionary sales definitely help business practices. If my landlord starting letting crackheads into the condo next to mine, I'd move out, leave bad reviews, property value drops. If somebody is a net negative for your business, it's smart to remove them. I didn't mention anybody specifically, and it was an obviously sarcastic remark, but if that satisfies your obsession with it,so be it.

And yet it was a post referencing a conspiracy. So yes, one was mentioned. I also named a Magic set with that post, but I guess that was just poor pun humor on my behalf.
Did I say anybody here was doing that? Believe it or not, the Magic community is bigger than the 15-20 people who regularly post (spam) on a dying message board.
It's weird that anybody who isn't in the echo chamber is made out to be some abusive troll. Ipsedixitism maybe?

There was no pun in that post of yours that I responded to.

Neat, so far though you are saying some unbelievable things like people calling you fascist for purchasing something, and I fully doubt that happened.

Yeah, that must be it.
There was a pun in the post it referenced, but like I said, I guess it was a bad one. I'd apologize for my sense of humor, but puns are supposed to be bad, so I'm not sure apologizing for a really bad one is the appropriate response.
Ah yes, the classic "That didn't happen to you!" argument. I can't prove it did, you can't prove it didn't. I responded to somebody else's personal experiences that weren't debated in the slightest, and yet mine were. I guess my choosing to believe them at face value and relay a similar experience is some sort of faux pas in your view?
Well, I'm glad we agree that this is kind of a dog pile. Maybe you can move on. It's okay to be emotional about things that feel personal to you.
Honestly I think we should just stop feeding the troll at this point. Any reasoning or asking them to be civil will just be met with more of their bad attitude and "no u"

I think this product is so heartbreaking and represents a true shift in the game. It's sad, but this will make WotC a lot of money. My only real hope is that the outcry is damaging enough to the brand to offset the profits they'll rake in. I think we as players need to be very vocal right now, on all social media platforms and forums. We need to be send a clear message to Wizards that we won't tolerate damaging products like this.
I'd like to hear from the one or two posters that said that these cards would see zero play and that they are not strong. Rick is what pushes humans up a notch thanks to him offering so much.
Makes me wonder how prepared the meta was for something like humans to show up and if this is just a fluke though and that if this deck was created just to prove something. Either the cards are garbage and no one needs to worry or they're strong and WotC ****ed the whole thing up once again with a product like this.
Okay, so not gonna lie, I got in on this as soon as I saw Rick as I just recently built a Jirina Kudro EDH deck. I also liked the idea of a BG Commander that cared about equipment since it was interesting design space. Ultimately I didnt want to have to pay the extortionists markup afterwards. (For reference, see the Hascon Promos or Friendship is Magic: the Gathering)
That said, I dont know why out of all the vehemence that has been lobbed at this product, from well thought out responses that break down the sheer magnitude of this precedent (thanks Prof!) to the pure vitriol being regulated on Magic forums by players from all walks of Magic, that no one has once lobbied the possibility that this was one of those decisions that some young hotshot exec may have FORCED WotC to do, that yeah, will pay dividends, but breaks their core stance on the health of the game.
I listen to alot of rSlash on my breaks at work and in transit so I may just be looking for a witch to burn, not that I'm particularly fussed about this product. My Magic funds have slowed to an almost nonexistent trickle except where I make some irresponsible decisions in the name of Retail Therapy due to not only the pandemic but prior to that trying to get a handle on my life now that I'm in my third decade of life experience. I just held onto the rock that is MaRo's well touted philosophy that "not every product is for every player."
I ended up purchasing this product by hawking cards at my LGS which I am sad to say is really difficult now since most of the recent stuff doesnt carry the pricetag of cards years past as well as most of the stuff with the big ticket numbers in my collection I refuse to let go the way of a significant portion of my collection during a year that I and my significant other at the time had lost our jobs just around the holiday season, a time which I refer to as Bad Christmas. I hope to never experience that kind of loss again.
Anyways, I hope that once things open back up and I can sit across from people again and play EDH that I dont get summarily dismissed from the group for playing these cards though I would be used to it given the amount of pushback that I regularly receive when playing my UNEDH (an entirely, mostly foiled, silver-bordered EDH deck with Holiday promos, special box releases and regular releases) that I usually try to force under the grounds of Rule Zero. I long for the days when EDH was a magical learning experience. When I could play a game and have to reach across the table to read a new card that got played and say "Wow! Theres a card that DOES THAT?!" and immediately add it to the ever growing list of cards that I'd want to acquire.
I don’t like secret lair as a philosophy, but usually hang, “great new art, but not for me”. However, this time is hard with mechanically unique cards. Rick really screamed at me for human EDH.
Hate paying $60 after shipping and tax for just a handful of cards, but most of these running $30 each at retail right now.
Hoping to offload most of the rest to friends at LGS to share pain/cost.
Very frustrating to get a special product by “blackmail” versus “oooh, I want that”.
I'd like to hear from the one or two posters that said that these cards would see zero play and that they are not strong. Rick is what pushes humans up a notch thanks to him offering so much.

They won 5 games 1 time, and only brought Rick in from the side board a single time. None of the games seemed terribly competitive.
I flipped a coin and got 5 heads in a row. Is the coin rigged?
EDIT: It's an event publicized to make people upset over nothing feel validated. Kinda like when a vocal minority creates a whiny echo chamber to do the same thing.

People could belive if you said that Negan, Daryl, and Michone were in sideboard in most of the games the deck had at least 2 Ricks are you saying the guy played most of the games with a 10 or 8 sideboard...
Rick is probably legacy playable in the next weeks we will know for true.

Hate paying $60 after shipping and tax for just a handful of cards, but most of these running $30 each at retail right now.
Hoping to offload most of the rest to friends at LGS to share pain/cost.
Very frustrating to get a special product by “blackmail” versus “oooh, I want that”.
