Looks good. At worst it's two 3/3s for three. And not hard for it to get better. Will definitely see play I think if there's a deck around that uses any significant amount of +1/+1 counters.
It's a shame we don't have an Abzan +1/+1 counter legend for Brawl hanging out in standard right now. I guess I could use Nethroi to combine the +1/+1 counters theme from Core 2021 and this set.
This is a nice card though and definitely something I could see slotting into decks simply because its two 3/3's for 3 mana.

Nethroi works surprisingly well with +1/+1 counters, since it lets them get more bang for their buck out of the 10 power worth of creature cards.
Am I only one completely bored with +1/+1 counter themes in every set? Cant we do some other means of creature enhancement for a change? For instance, threshold was super fun and unique.
Hydra’s get about one per set, every set. After the new commander precon, they have to keep supporting. Kinda like usually 1-2 angels & dragons unless something special.
I feel spoiled by Thragtusk, because I'm just not that impressed. At 3CMC it should have some form of evasion, and I'm not inclined to jump through the necessary hoops in EDH to give it evasion.
Getting major Alien vibes from that token artwork.
I'm having a hard time decided which I want to play more - Ezuri, Claw of Progress counters EDH, or this thing, with maybe Reyhan, Last of the Abzan in the 99. There's more support for counters in UG, especially with proliferate, but I kinda wanna see what a Golgari build would look like.
In some unusual cases, Vastwood Hydra will have enough -1/-1 counters put on it to make its toughness 0 or less...the ability will still distribute a number of +1/+1 counters equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on Vastwood Hydra before the -1/-1 counters were put on it.
This is because the +1/+1 and -1/-1 counter annihilation (704.5r) and 0 toughness death (704.5f) are state-based actions. State-based actions happen simultaneously (704.3). If an object no longer exists, its last known state is used to determine effects (413.2f). The last known state of Grakmaw was BEFORE the -1/-1 counters were placed. Therefore, the number of +1/+1 counters BEFORE annihilation is used to determine the outcome.

what -1/-1 counters?
heartless act removes up to 3 counters from him, so the 3 he came in with, making him have no counters on him any more and a 0/0.
It's ok, I read your first reply to me and was like "oh wow, they're right, glad I learned that rules interaction" before seeing the next post pointing out there are no -1/-1 counters here
How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Here's your Hydra Horror. Interesting in +1/+1 counter strategies, and goes full Penumbra when it dies.

and maybe Basri's Lieutenant_
Cool card in limited and Tiny Leaders (u member that?)
This card is all sorts of value.
RUNIN: Norse mythology set (awaiting further playtesting)
FATE of ALARA: Multicolour factions (currently on hiatus)
Contibutor to the Pyrulea community set
I'm here to tell you that all your set mechanics are bad

This seems like it offers enough value to be played in Constructed, even without an etb effect.
I do like that a Heartless Act can cleanly kill it and leave behind no token, as long as Grakmaw hasn't grown already.
I was thinking the same thing lol
Dunes of Zairo
SHANDALAR
Innistrad - The Darkest Night
~THE RAVNICAN CONSORTIUM~
A Community Set
Commander: Allies & Adversaries
This is a nice card though and definitely something I could see slotting into decks simply because its two 3/3's for 3 mana.
Also, the fact that it's a Legend that works extremely well in multiples is a bonus.
i do kind of disagree with g/b getting so much +1/+1 counter love lately but sure fine whatever.

Strangely enough, this is actually incorrect. According to the ruling on Vastwood Hydra (and Chasm Skulker and Servant of the Scale):
This is because the +1/+1 and -1/-1 counter annihilation (704.5r) and 0 toughness death (704.5f) are state-based actions. State-based actions happen simultaneously (704.3).
