... they wont see each other except casually or in edh.
Yup, that's kinda the point. I hear EDH is pretty big these days.

I mean, token producing commanders already exist so its not even like he does anything new here either.
If people were inclined to complain about Craterhoof Behemoth's price tag, wait until they see how much Hazezon Tamar is going for these days. While I agree in principle that new commanders should occupy unique design space, it's getting increasingly hard for them to do so given the proliferation of legendaries these past several years, and personally I'm fine with making desirable effects more accessible in a format that's predominantly renowned for being the acme of casual play.
If it would be all lands, not just basic, it could be somewhat reasonable.
As it is, nobody wants to play that many basic lands to begin with ...
The most common ramp spells only target basic land types anyway, so I would argue the opposite is true: people looking to ramp want that many (or more) basic lands to begin with.

The terrible ramp spells go for basic lands.
The good ones are artifacts anyway (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt) and lots of decks struggle to include even just 5 basic lands (as they are so terrible, unless you tutor for them with something better).
The decks that play lots of basic lands are much more niche and specific ; as are decks that play an exorbitant amount of ramp that only searches basic lands.
(Look at Golos, Tireless Pilgrim, basically one of the most played Commanders around and they really really dont want many basic lands, the exact opposite even).

if you’re running multiple colors in EDH then you supplement your mana base with basics, you don’t supplement your basics with non-basics. Unless you’re talking about budget EDH, which is niche and hardly relevant. Fetching/searching for basics is useful to get more lands out quicker and that’s pretty much it.

If you have a philosophy you'd like to share, please use your own words and not mine. We can also have a polite chat via PM about how there's no such thing as blue lives, or how the entire "blue lives matter" mantra was intentionally crafted to discredit a legitimate and meaningful movement.
Also: mana rocks =/= ramp, and they definitely have no relevance here if we're actually talking about Phylath.
Also 2.0: Kodama's Reach is probably the #1 ramp spell in EDH. Would you consider that one terrible?

You don't need nearly as much color fixing in 2 colors as you do 3. If the point is to simply maximize your land count, as it is here, then cards like Boundless Realms are much more in keeping with a basic land strategy.
Avenger of Zendikar's little brother, named after Jace, the Mind Sculptor, seems to focus more on the go tall aspect of things, rather than go wide like his brother.

And I guess you can do plant tribal with this dude

We did?
If you're talking about the JumpStart reprint then that's irrelevant.
How is getting cheaper access to EDH staples irrelevant for a demonstrably relevant EDH commander?

How are the two related though?
Craterhoof is going to be an in demand game ender regardless of this guy.
This guy being print doesnt correlate to a reprint of a not standard legal card since they wont see each other except casually or in edh.

I think you've answered your own question here.

When was the last time we got a card like Farseek?
There are at least a couple of Crop Rotation-y cards here,
but by and large I couldn’t be any sicker of seeing the word “basic” on Magic Cards.
