A west world can finally bringing back Horsemanship and also banding as you ride out together to go on heists!
Oddly enough I was thinking the same thing. Great minds think alike. Put together your Posse with Banding. A lone ranger uses Horsemanship to foil the bad guys, etc.
Maybe someday in the future. For now here are my guesses...
Winter: Norse/Viking World
Spring: Return to New Phyrexia/Mirrodin
Summer: M22 with Liliana
Fall: Innistrad 3
Looking forward to what is coming.

This actually seems plausible. I don't personally like it, with two horror worlds in a year, but I suspect this is what we can expect.
Who would like to be next to explain "capitalism" and "consumer goods" to a masters-degree in economics holding professor at a business school?
After that, who _else_ would like to say "education isn't relevant"?
I'm not sure the attitude is warranted, or productive. You expressed displeasure at encouraging WotC to try to appeal to the lowest common denominator (or "dumbest people" as you put it), others followed up to point out why WotC does it and why they're unlikely going to stop anytime soon. Was the point you were trying to convey misinterpreted?
Can we PLEASE not literally encourage our art and cultural content creators (such as they are) to cater to the dumbest person's impression of history/art/civilization/literature? That'd kinda exactly the opposite of what they're supposed to do.
Oh, i'm sorry, do you think it's a thing that's starting now, or something we can change? How cute.
Look at Kamigawa and how much they think it's a failure because its references were too obscure for the average consumer. Sadly it's just how things work.
But a whole plane / set / block without the city of Rome itself?
You actually have a whole empire and the trope Rome VS barbarians to explore?

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I mean you have Wars and conquests in all flavors: Punic, Civil, Gallic, German
You have Rome in Flames, the East-West divide of the Empire, Constantinople, Triumphs
You have lots of legendary creature like Caesar, Pompie, Cicero, the good emperors, Romulus and Remus, Mark Anthony, Emperor Augustus...
Honestly you have quite work with. The Roman empire existed for quite some time.

You actually have a whole empire and the trope Rome VS barbarians to explore?
People keep talking about 'the empire' as if there's this whole other aspect of Rome, when almost all of the distinct flavor is invested in the city. When you take that away you have... a considerable amount of provincial conquest and an admittedly unique succession of dictators, and that's about it. The Gruul I've already discussed. So, is that shell really enough to build an entire plane around? I have my doubts.

Just a bit of advice: bragging on the internet about how smart you are is never a good look, but it’s an especially bad look when you do it with piss poor grammar.
The danger there is that those were some of the more easily identifiable tropes from Theros. Would the average player be able to tell the difference between a hoplite and a legionnaire?

I honestly think they look quite different especially if you really take the very stereotypical Roman look.
Lorica segmentata, the square shield, the helms, short spears instead of Phalanx spears...
That is what I mean there is a distinct Roman look and feel. And I think that image is strong enough to resonate with a bunch of nerds playing magic.

yup. theros is our roman-esque plane as a result. yes, its more inspired by greek culture, but your average player isn't going to really notice the differences.
as for ravnica which i saw talked about quite a bit before... roman culture wasn't the basis for it. it might have elements of that present, but most aren't making that association and it wasn't the basis for the plane's creation. you could say the same things about segovia, and paliano. lets be real, there are so many facets of roman civilization that have shaped the world that you can make the association to just about any plane with very little effort. i don't think we're ever going to get a truly roman inspired plane because there's no need to have one and too many players would not be able to tell the difference.
as for upcoming sets...
i'm in the i'd like to see an american western themed set camp. i've wanted to see one since about the time apocalypse released. kaladesh and ravnica have plenty of examples showing how easily it could be done. i also wouldn't mind a viking oriented plane, hopefully utilizing snow. a deep sea plane i think could have a lot of fun potential as a one shot. i'd also like to see them revisit the homelands, or sarpadia - but that's not likely to ever happen given how hated those sets were. i also wouldn't mind seeing a set set in the past during the height and fall of the thran empire - but that too isn't likely since they can't really market the new storyline to it. a return to innistrad wouldn't be terrible, though i'm not entirely enthusiastic about it since we were there not that long ago and a lot of what was great about the plane was kind of bastardized by the eldrazi.
i'm not a fan of walker themed core sets, so i'm really hoping the m21 being teferi themed is a one of experiment never done again. they're just not good enough at storytelling any more to warrant it.
most of all though? no more masters sets. ever. do away with them. work on design and find ways to reprint necessary cards into sets without warping standard completely, or reprint them into things like commander precons and improve distribution.
Come on, Mafia styled italian set. I can see it now!

I'm too old and grumpy to bother with the 17 different partial quotes needed to pull all of the references on just this page out of the thread but...

Tend to agree. It's one thing to acknowledge the reality of marketing and business decisions. That doesn't mean we have to lean into it or be overly accepting of the sorts of tendencies that result from that reality. Businesses churning out ever-more generic products is not a particularly desirable outcome. One of the few ways we can push against art and cultural content being diminished by this process is by cultivating a consumer culture that appreciates fine details. And that starts by not being automatically dismissive of every appeal for finer detail with the point that, under capitalism, dumbing down is inevitable. Don't give away all your power for free.
A westworld would be an interesting thing to pull off. I'm not sure how they would replace the firearms aspect (spellslinging can only go so far), and you can count out those from Portal Second Age, however if they did it with a supernatural approach a la Alone in the Dark 3, it would make for some seriously fun and a setting people could definitely appreciate.
As for art: what's wrong with abstract art? Not everything has to be cut-and-dry or defined.
And since the Gruul exist, they'll never do barbarians again?

Yeah, no. I would greatly appreciate it if people stopped making me repeat myself here; one solitary trope does not support my assertion that Ravnica resembles Rome.
They could do gladiatorial combat anywhere. They could do a church anywhere. They could do a bureaucracy anywhere. They could do legionnaires anywhere. They could do barbarians anywhere. They could do ingenious civil engineers anywhere. They could do agrarian spirituality anywhere. They can't do all of those things, together, without it being unmistakably Ravnican, but they shouldn't do Rome without them either.

Without a guild system and the worldwide city, it isn't Ravnica. Those two are the main point of the world. Even if it has barbarians, gladiators and a senate.
The big theme of a roman block could be the empire VS the barbarians, as Licia and Saskia point out. A two faction system would immediately not remember Ravnica.
