This is a really good selection of cards. While the art is controversial, the function is still the same, which is most important. This is $150 worth of cards in a set that has pre-ordered for $40. This is an incredible value and really good for stores. I hope the other Commander Collection sets are as good as this.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Now seeing those pictures blown up, I reaaaaally hate the art. Freyalise looks like Nick Fury crossdressing in green - all the rugged femininity of the original is gone. Bane of Progress is so cluttered, and the artifact critter looks like it was an afterthought. Sylvan library is a complete disconnect (why isn't that chord of calling or even shamanic revelation?). The art is fine - it just doesn't say library - Reki, is some sort of Homer-esque storyteller if I understand correctly. It would be like having a picture of a Ral Zarek on Fiery Confluence. The command tower is alright, considering the competition is mediocre - but a terrible missed opportunity to actually embrace the forest theme - it literally is a tower with green lights in a wooded region. If I were designing it, I would have done some Avatar movie style tree-tower. Worldly tutor is a very difficult concept to transform into art - so that and the sol ring are the two actual hits of the bunch to me, with seedborn muse getting an honorable mention for being a completely acceptable art that equally and differently depicts a seedborn muse.
...
I’ll bite: what is ‘rugged femininity’ supposed to look like, in objective terms?

If I had to guess, an actual feminine figure in the rough?
I'm actually surprised they didn't use this product as an opportunity to reprint natural order or green sun's zenith with new art (not that I want them to).
Truthfully, I wish they reprinted finale of devastation here to keep it in check.
Admittedly, I'm somewhat biased since I missed the boat on that card somehow and I'm reluctant to buy it at its current price (I know it's good enough to justify the secondary market tag despite rotating soon, I'm just stubborn and focus on cards I feel are underpriced / under the radar).
Regardless, I'll probably buy at least two of these products even though I already have all the cards.
That's what I did with most From the Vault products, and this is essentially the same thing, only color specific.
New art is justification enough to buy this if the initial retail markup isn't too high, and keeping a spare or two sealed and safe in the closet will sell easily for double in due time and pay for the one(s) I open.
Let's be honest... You can never really have too many copies of any of these cards.
At worst, they're all good trade fodder if you don't have many commander decks to include them in.
More likely and accurately, it's "money in a box".
Lastly, is it just me, or did the price of gaea's cradle just rise again?!
Lastly, is it just me, or did the price of gaea's cradle just rise again?!
Its reserved list.
You hope the prices will go down like "ever" ? No chance.
Reserved list is once again the only possible way to have any "worth" to keep value of cards.
If anything, the reserved list shows how important it is.
All the cards that are reprinted completely get obliterated in value.
Reserved List cards on the contrary go up in value like hot cakes.
If you invested in any dual lands and/or power cards, your money just doubled, tripled or even better.
And at the same time you can enjoy these expensive cards and play with them (if you dare to play with cards worth a car, or even a house).
Anybody that just wants to play with the cards uses Proxy cards, since forever and ever (and i would recommend Proxy cards for any "casual" play that isnt sanctioned, as there is zero reason to spend any money on cards just to play kitchen table casual with friends).
If people appreciate the real cards, its like art and history of magic.
I mean look at Gilded Drake, Mox Diamond, they keep exploding in price, as they have a high demand and will basically forever and ever be great cards no matter what.
omfg... I knew those cards were valuable,
but I had no idea that the playsets I bought ages ago for $10/per card
would balloon to enough for three house payments collectively
Like, how would I even sell a Black Lotus, an Ancestral Recall, a Timetwister?
Seems like that’s gotten beyond the league of eBay, yeah?
I just had to register to share my 2p about something. The new Freyalise. The old version was awesome, butch, hotness with the heavy cloak and gloves. This new version looks like she is auditioning for the part of peter pan.
Everything else in CC:Green is satisfactory (o.k. it's awesome to get a sylvan library, and I love the odd, green-centric sol ring, but I'm trying to act cool around new people and everything).
As someone else already pointed out, a monocolor-themed Command Tower doesn't make much sense. I think Growing Rites Of Itlimoc would've been a better choice.
Other than that, everything else looks good. A lot more good reprints than I expected.

This Sylvan library is amazing for capturing what Reki was. Your failure in understanding Reki when his card clearly spells out what he was is your own problem. Reki, the History of Kamigawa."After his death, monks spent ten years transcribing the tattoos from Reki's body and gathering stories from those who spoke with him. Thus the volume you hold was written."
—The History of Kamigawa
His flavor text spells it out fairly plainly. His body was a comprehensive text. He was no mere story teller. He was the history of kamigawa.
Is $40 for the non-foil version the going rate that stores are selling it? Is that a good price, given that Wizards does not do MSRP anymore? Sylvan Library and Worldly Tutor were expensive before this announcement.

Even with lowering costs the contents of the nonfoil version is still worth around $100, and way more for the all-foil version. Do we have any first-time foils in the product?

Thanks for the input. Hopefully, there will be enough supply of the non-foil version for me to get one.

$50/100 should be the base prices for each of these. That's about where MSRP would've been.
(This better not mean both versions are WPN exclusive)
Did a quick google search cause I was curious myself
"WPN Premium
Premium stores will get the same benefits as all WPN members, plus exclusive events, priority and recognition in the Store and Event Locator, upgraded promo materials, MTG Arena codes for exclusive content, etc. Less than five percent of stores qualify for premium status."
In addition my favorite lgs said they only qualified for 10 non foil and 1 foil box of this product. I fear stores could be severely undervalued/underestimating this product. And refunds may be in the future for many of those who attempted to preorder this if my lgs is any indicator on quantities.

Yes! A Vorthos appears who understands. For a moment I thought it was too good to be true that it was depicting Reki. Now that I know it does, I absolutely must have this. Makes up for the worldly tutor art.
The only thing I see that could sour me on this product is if it ends up being super exclusive or overpriced. Feels like it’s been the goal of this year to price out commander players from their own targeted products? These are much needed reprints so here’s to hoping they’re accessible. Otherwise, I think this will turn more people off from commander than encourage, which would be a shame.
Meh, 2020 is like that tho. Hopefully this 10 per lgs situation is an exception not a rule

Actually I love the idea of known legendary creatures depicted on such cards. The issue I have with Yisan in particular is he’s another land creature character like Garuuk or Viven and even Haulti. It’s appropriate don’t get me wrong, just doesn’t appeal to me personally. Kinda bores me to see baloth this, beast that. There are a lot of other creature and exploration themed characters I’d have loved to see. Such as Kiora or Dosan. The art itself is a bit too digital too. But frankly the fact this card was reprinted at all is good news regardless if it’s affordable enough.

Okay - I'll admit it has been years since I read his flavor text. So I'll upgrade him from Homer to Herodotus - a man whose book "Histories" was literally the entire history of the world as the Greeks knew it. Reki in this respect would represent ONE book. Still not a library.
library (n)
a building or room containing collections of books, periodicals, and sometimes films and recorded music for people to read, borrow, or refer to.
"a school library"
a collection of books and periodicals held in a library.
"the Institute houses an outstanding library of 35,000 volumes on the fine arts"
a room in a private house where books are kept.
You may love the flavor of Reki, or admire the art, but please don't insult me and say that Reki in any manner would evoke an image of sylvan (consisting or associated to woods) library (a collection of books).

To be fair, no other iteration of Sylvan Library has evoked, for me, a mental image of an actual library. They're... trees. Reki, at least, represents something akin to the Buddhist oral tradition insofar as the passing of their accumulated knowledge in a manner commensurate with Kamigawan lore - a plane that has long been at odds with player expectations for adhering too closely to Japanese cultural and spiritual norms. It would be uncharitable to call him an Eastern Herodotus without any substantial comprehension of just how vastly different European and Asian cultures are (or can be), a comprehension that I am brave enough to admit even I lack. I had to ask a friend, an Asian Studies major, to explain the instrument - apparently it's a form of meditation which succeeds total enlightenment. If Reki represents the accumulated knowledge of his people, then I have no problem considering him to be a library.
I guess I'm going to pay out of my nose to get the foil version...
