I mean... I guess they aren't $0.50 rares at least. Folks are still going to be pissed pulling 2 x $2 cards out of a $16 pack. lol

Why shouldn't we be pissed?
This is a blatant cash grab. 2 rares don't cost any more than 2 commons to them.

As a person that loved Grim Lavamancer during Torment-era Standard, is it even good, anymore? I don't follow anything outside Pioneer, Standard, MTG-arena formats these days; so I'm unsure of if its played anywhere.

I've been saying this since the first Modern Masters. That was a great set, but there was no reason for the packs to be more expensive than a Standard set, other than "people will pay it".
At least they are amazing in limited. I really want this to be fun to draft at the least.
Yeah, but how many people are going to be drafting this set? I won't. The last Masters set I drafted was Eternal Masters, and only 4 people showed up for that one. Most drafters would rather do multiple, regular priced drafts rather than one really expensive draft.
My initial optimistic hope is that they'll insert some good commons and uncommons to fill the holes of the jank rares/mythics they put in, kinda like the days of 4th Edition and Ice Age. Your rare might be jank but hot damn you got a Factory, Swords, Llanowar Elves and Bolt.
I said there better not be a Tree of Redemption-like occurrence here and voila. There it is. We still have a lot of other cards to see but I'm hot holding my gonads in anticipation of a Hail Mary here.

A single draft will cost like $50ish, right?
Very expensive to draft compared to Standard draft. How many drafts would actually fire at $50 per draft? I don't think turnout was high for Eternal Masters or Ultimate Masters due to the pack cost.
Also, I read that Wizards suspended official sanctioned events for stores until September, so people would have to play privately in the meantime.
these are not impressive rares given the price per pack.
they're not bad cards, but they're not impressive at the cost of a pack. there were more creative includes that were possible, or even with the limiting aspect that is the price tag they could've been downshifted.
Straight out of Jumpstart, these two welcome you to Double Masters preview season.

I wish Grim Lavamancer had the Jim Nelson art.
