Actually I think the entire concept is flawed.by making the packs random they completely missed the point. I mean I would love to play unicorns, but I have no control of opening that. They could have at least indicated the theme in the packs and then you could have 1-4 possible decks. As it is, I could end up opening chaff like devils and scroll reader deck and then lose before starting. I'm not buying packs with seven lands in them without knowing the other cards.
This product could have been a home run. They could have put 7 normal themed art land and 1 full art foil per pack. They could have foiled a single card per pack like the planeswalker spellbooks. They could have given each theme a new card instead of ignoring some of them.
Like battlebond and conspiracy, they used a lot of reprint equity on this set to push sales, but like battlebond and conspiracy - 3 to 5 years down the line we won't remember this set for the reprints, but for the new cards - so why not make that the part that is highlighted?
I’m confused by lots of the complaints. It has been clearly listed through all of the spoilers this week that each pack only has one of its special land and I’m pretty sure the news has been out even longer. That isn’t news at this point.
Also, letting players choose what themes they were after would be kind of self-defeating. I wouldn’t want players only choosing the theme with Oracle of Mul Daya in drafts to fish for the one single they are looking for, for example. The inability to force a color or strategy if you don’t pull the right pack can be a bit of a let down but it’s kind of the entire point of this product.
i do not understand why you are talking about "cash back"
im talking about the lands with the art, its NOT a big ask(i aint even asking for foils).... couldnt care less for the cards in it actually
he's talking about the secondary market value of cards. if you could pick and choose which packs you got then people increase their chances of flipping high value cards to make their money back. its a general statement.
the reprint list is solid. i can't ******* stand the wizards website. they leave out information and its slow as ass. like what good is a spoiler if the new cards don't have a clickable link or a hover over display.
i'd love to see this product replace anything like master's products. its easy to just pick up and go, and still gets you viable reprints. i'm betting this thing will sell out almost immediately and be largely unavailable to those that want it because wizard's distribution system is so completely ****ed when it comes to supplemental products.
Getting Dinosaurs 4 instead of any of the other three
Getting Elves 2 instead of elves 1
Getting Well-Read 1,2,4 instead of 3
I like the concept i guess in whole but still dont know what really to do with this except new stuff for Historic. Paper and LgS are a little on the down side right now

It might not be the latest news, but that doesn't invalidate the complaint. The themed basics are among the most notable features of this set (of course not for everyone, but overall they are a selling point) and they are making them a lot rarer than one would expect (without explicitly looking up the numbers) for no real reason.
It would even improve the feeling of the decks when opened and played as intended to have all fitting lands instead of a single one that you might even draw once in a while...
If they really wanted to create chaseable basics, using 7 regular themed lands plus one foil/full art per booster (as suggested above) would have been a far better option for everyone imo.

Full arts/foils could be reserved for Standard Showdown or Magicfest or something equivalent after COVID

I guess that I can understand the complaint. People want something that wizards had the means to give them and they are only being drip-fed something exciting instead of taking the Guild Deck approach (where all basics in the guild decks had the guild treatment).
With that said, I am basically of the opposite opinion in regards to this. For every EDH player willing to dish out to have all angel plains, for example, a ton of baneslayer angel cards are going to be entering into circulation... which will help drive down the cost of the cards in this set and help out a whole lot of players.
When Tolarian Community College reviewed the Godzilla Lands Secret Lair Drop (which sold a single set of lands for $6 each, likely more than what most of these will go for), the Professor reported that this sort of scarcity item, serving as bling to players that really want it without being essential for any deck (as everyone already has basic lands) is an excellent model. I am inclined to agree with this perspective and think that it is great... especially when combined with $4 set that packs in a number of high-price reprints and a number of interesting new cards for commander... and this product gives a (somewhat) novel play experience... and introduces a huge array of cards to Historic if you aren't playing paper MTG.
Even if the complaint is valid, I don't personally agree with the point made. While this system sucks for people who only want the basic lands, I see the product as largely positive.

COVID will kill their distribution model for the first print run before their own distribution system does. Most first print run packs will be opened and not played because there's no one to play with if you don't have a webcam. Ironically, Jumpstart is very conducive to webcam play in a way draft boosters aren't.
I hope they'll errata the "new"/nerfed first strike to "first strike on your turn" or "first strike during your turn" to safe text space. Even just "first strike while it's your turn" or "first strike as long as it's your turn" *without* self-refencing the card would safe a lot of space and shouldn't cause any confusion gameplay-wise.
Everyone here's rejoicing and all, but where did all the "Jumpstart is a waste of money, made for dumb Timmies who like getting swindled" people go?
Hope this isn't considered spamming or derailing the thread, but since you ask:
The loud crowd of people hating on a product and the loud crowd of people praising that product probably consist of *different* individuals. Maybe I misunderstood you, but this seems to be you making the argument that the same people flip-flop on their stance. If I'm wrong, I apologize. If I'm right, I'll need to see examples of specific individuals bashing JMP as a whole as well as lauding it.

Cards (cards in/reprinted in core 2021 cards not here)
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/card-image-gallery/jumpstart
Feel free to discuss
EDIT: unless a Mandela effect but I could have sworn they said eldrazi theme was in here but there isn’t
its utterly riddiculous... wont buy unless its like a dolar more expensive than a std booster
they detail the customized land in their OTHER CARDS part
which implies theres only 1 customized

feeling deeply offended...
NOW NOT GONNA BUY FOR SURE

This set was intended to include reprints, but not so convenient that you can pick and choose the most expensive booster. It’s not a precon.
But people will complain because they can’t all pick the pack they want for easy cash back.
Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest WUR Voltron Control

Tiana the Auror
Hallar
Ulrich the Politician

im talking about the lands with the art, its NOT a big ask(i aint even asking for foils).... couldnt care less for the cards in it actually

And I only count 120
They said 121 and looking at the list
Unless It's a Mandela effect I recall an eldrazi theme and its not on the list
Getting Elves 2 instead of elves 1
Getting Well-Read 1,2,4 instead of 3

Part of me wonder if this is meant to be like a god pack. As it is very strange they left it out.
