I like the Island but I wanted new krakens. Other themes got new card. Why Sea Monsters are always the afterthought? Always new legends for land creatures but sea creatures are nothing but an Ikoria and Core 2021 draft chaff re-hash?
I mean I can see your frustration the Whelming Wave include is nice, but since Whales are not part of that Synergy the whole deck list is quite off.
Honestly some new card that would also include Whales in the sea monster synergy would have been nice...
That being said most deck lists spoiled until now aren't half as bad.
Exactly. Figures the Sea Monster deck would be the worst. The other themes are actually rather good. Until we get to the one I was anticipating most. Wonderful.
DAMN. :'( This was one of the ones I was most looking forward to getting something new.... Ikoria was okay but a lot of the best "sea monsters" were whales and sharks and M21 just gave us more whales... Wish all sea monster matter cards could be errated to include whales lol. C'MON, ZENDIKAR!

I have high hopes for Zendikar as well. Especially with Kiora there currently. Seriously WOTC, don't you even dare.
Lol they put the lowest effort possible in the pirate theme and litelly 0 effort in this one.
I wonder when we'll be able to play a proper sea-themed deck. Maybe 2025?
They literally can't print bomby krakens/leviathan. Just sphinxes, sphinxes, sphinxes. Hell even in this product there 2 more sphinxes.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
Product is trash. I am so over this BS. They have no idea what they're doing. Incompetent crap.
So water theme being bad you when from great set to I hate this instantly
I should tell you the flying theme has kira as a reprint
Good to know all the other themes got fun reprints, new art and new legendary creatures while oceanic themes get nothing.
I love this Island seeing it up close but wanted more than just a new basic, which every theme got.
On one hand, I am with you - my pirates, ninjas, sea critters got no love.
On the other hand - it looks like wizards managed to not do something very unfortunate (pirate legend- captain whitey the slave trader).
There is a ton of design space remaining in this product line, and I am excited to see a future where future versions of this create further mashups Perhaps the next could shift from mostly tribal to a mechanic theme
Why wotc ignored foils in a product designed for casuals is beyond me. Why the special lands were not full art foils is beyond my comprehension. Why very few cards got new art is ridiculous.

DRAG! Call them out. I am so sick to death of the same cluster of deck types and themes getting all the attention and everything else neglected. I can't believe Pirates didn't get more legendary captains from Ixalan's story. I also loved their Island, but seriously, is that the best sea theme deck fans can hope for? Basic Lands?

I really can't believe that after 25 years of game they managed to not make the "sea creatures" trope a definite archetype. They were able to it with dinosaurs in really no time and Gishath is the most popular Naya commander ever and by far. Because it's ******* fun!
So hard to do it for sea creatures or human who travels on sea. You are only be able to play with terrible limited fodders. Hell, cute dogs became an archetype before sea creatures.

PREACH IT. I am so glad you're here.
It's remarkable to me how the most prominent biome on Earth, covering 70% of our planet, a theme requested on the Short List for an entire plane and block (Underwater World) is so utterly neglected. The most they can do for Sea Monsters are common draft chaff 7 drops with overcosted effects to make them unblockable? I requested a Gishath-like card for Sea Monsters and Maro never even acknowledges it. Even the most recent sea creatures don't have synergy with the theme itself. It's actually annoying how much support Dinosaurs have received instantaneously to the point it's nearly overkill, let alone having what, Nissa, Garuuk and Viven and counting all care about land creatures, and literally only Kiora who scarcely appears care about sea creatures, and have limited examples for them at that? Blue is supposed to be about ocean magic as a major facet of the color and the most we've seen are Merfolk, because they can traverse the land. Thassa forbid we venture anywhere deeper than the surface world humans experience. It's like there's no imagination in this fantasy game. Limit it as much as possible strictly to what land dwelling mammals can experience or else! We can't compromise resonance with innovation!
Seriously, it's time to tap into more marine environments WOTC. On Theros, we should have had glimpses of Olantin and Thassa's trenches and hydrothermal vent fields and her underwater studio where she artistically creates kraken enchantment creatures to terrorize the depths (per the DND book). We need more than the same tired glimpses of the same biomes and survey of the same old boring creature types set to set. It's absurd and limiting. I am so disappointed. This just shows how much effort they're investing on what should be a major theme of this game.

I can see it now fish and sharks as far as the I can see with a lone U/B Lorthos Reanimated as the sole creature with a Octopus, Serpent, Leviathan, or Kraken subtype. Arixmethes just wants some new friends (or spells).

I'd like to see marine environments and underwater locations as well. More takes on cards like Quest For Ula's Temple, but easier conditions to meet. Support comprable to Gishath. If they insist on making sea monsters 6+ mana, the very least they could do is provide more chances to put them into play. Even in Commander it's a challenge, yet a welcome one since the deck is immensely popular despite its lacking support. It's time to get creative. Show us oceanic expeditions and discovery in Zendikar. Diving, exploring, seeing more of the seas there. I'm over all these terrestrial biomes.
heres the basic
not sure if its a fail to preview but we got a water theme

No new cards? No legendary kraken? Nothing? What is that Island even showing?
Whelming Wave with barely any synergy with the included creature types?

the island is pretty, i still won't use it because of the stupid pokemon-esque mana symbol, but whatever that's not going anywhere after 20 years.
a thassa (either one) would've been a nice reprint to jam here, or a new empress galina, but oh well

Remember that in the past wotc has put bad cards in sets that didn't fit well, most of the time those were clues for future themes.
my guts tell me you will be very happy with commander legends.
