Ghostly Pilferer 1U
Creature- Spirit Rogue
Whenever Ghostly Pilferer becomes untapped, you may pay 2. If you do, draw a card.
Whenever an opponent casts a spell from anywhere other than their hand, draw a card.
Discard a card: Ghostly Pilferer can't be blocked this turn.

Guess he heard white has tax draw now, and stole it for himself. Wonder if this does anything outside of those blue aggro decks.
I like the discard ability for reanimator decks, but the second ability is a response to what? Escape (that's proven an answer isn't necessary to solve it) and Companion (which are now mostly unplayable from the sideboard)? The card draw is more mana efficient that Spectral Sailor, at least.
I like it, but I'm not sure what home it has in Standard atm.
Also, would have been funnier if it was instead a human that was shown to be holding a Key to the City. Maybe it's the ghost of a guy that tried to hide the Key after being identified, and choked on it.
I think this card is great. Two conditional ways to get card draw, a free discard outlet, and evasion on a cheap body in a semi-relevant creature type.

This card's design was finalized long before the companion rules change, so companion could have been part of it. I think it is a neat general catch-all that can hit lots of things and not limited to standard. Flashback, for instance.
edit: I also just noticed the creature types. MaRo said in his article today that they gave each color a rare tribal lord or pseudo-lord - blue got spirits and black got rogues. This nicely works with both.

Ha, that's great! Definitely strong key to the city vibes on this one.
I'm also wondering what those other two hands are in the art - multiple other pilferers coming in behind him? Or does he have 4 arms (with backwards hands)?

Yeah, for sure, I realize this is finalized long before the other stuff happened, I was just pointing at that at this point that middle line of text is basically moot. I mean it shares the same problem that Drannith Magistrate now has, in Standard at least. It's basically useless.

the creature half of adventure cards cast from exile. also i’m not saying the deck is great but i’ve seen a mono u build on arena recently that features gadwick, maybe it has a home there? i also agree with the idea that the discard outlet could be its main function and every other feature just extra goodies.

You're right. I had completely forgotten about adventure, lol. All I have played against on Arena lately is either AnaxEmbercleave, 3feri/Narset, or TemurReclamation. I haven't even seen Rakdos Sacrifice, lately.
Is it just me or does this feel like it should have been a ninja since ModHorizons showed us we can have ninjas without ninjutsu?
As much as I would love to have more ninja love - rogue and ninja are both "classes" and as such it would be as common as soldier knights. To choose one or the other i think rogue is more appropriate.
And there's your initial Companion soft hoser prior to errata. Right now it's a nice soft middle finger to the aforementioned cards and what have you but also towards Dredge, maybe even worthy of a sideboard card.

just not sure it should be rare
There was the promo art that leaked for a new Innistrad set, so a Spirit with discard outlet that can hose flashback seeeeeeeeeeems like a plant.

A few cards that can work with it to get that draw. Spellshift, Possibility Storm, Eye of the Storm, Knowledge Pool, Delay.
