i know not everything nightmare is eldrazi, but given all the mutations, and the look of this guy in particular, i can't help but wonder if ikoria was maybe touched by emrakul at some point in the past, like maybe she was lured to zendikar just after arriving on ikoria before the ***** could really hit the fan. i mean, what would innistrad look like thousands of years later if she just decided to walk away.
Everything about the flavor is a huge win, holy ***** that art is as hilarious as it is cute as it is horrifying.
The card itself is a flexible common, reminds me of Grimdancer but a fair bit weaker. These cards are kinda like the Changelings of the set, creating connective tissue between themes (Changelings connect tribes by fitting into any, these fit both non-Human matters, as well as different keywords mattering themes).

Considering it’s the crystals that cause the mutations and nothing about the eldrazi has ever suggested these crystals are a part of their thing Imma go with no.

man, having to piecemeal together story from cards, *****ty articles, and tweets, because there's no novels any more really ******* blows.

There's some theories popping up here and there about that. Some speculating as to what is cooking inside the mysterious egg.

The Planeswalker guide was pretty readable, succinct and full of flavour facts.

Considering they completely retconned the nature of the hedrons on Zendikar as well as many other retcons, and like to play fast and loose with their own established rules (bringing people to other planes is impossible, unless you're Kaya), it could honestly go either way. The only thing that we can say with certainty is that Wizards didn't plan on Emrakul being involved in this, but that might not stop them from doing so in the future.
And this is exactly why retconning and breaking your own rules repeatedly is actually hurting the story. There is nothing to get attached to, both forward and backwards. Past elements of the story can be changed or declared noncanon while future speculation becomes a game on a meta level trying to figure out what the writers were aiming for rather than analyzing the hints provided within the narrative. The magic story is increasingly becoming as thin as the cardboard its printed on. And the reason for this was not the gatewatch or Jace or whoever is hated at the moment but the systemic issue with how the story is handled and treated by those who curate it.

Truth. Retcons get messy.
I do see a lot of elements of eldrazi here. The nightmare creatures, mutations, distrust of monsters in humans, even the crystals everywhere.
Emrakuls thing was melding creatures together and changing the biological structure - mutate does this, many creatures look very similar to the aberrations emrakuls whispers created
The crystals are very similar to the crystalline works of kozilek
Lots of things have tentacles and horns similar to eldrazi
I could see some reveal that says they came to ikoria, started the feasting process, and were called away to zendikar by ugin, nahiri, and sorin where they were trapped, so we see a plane in ikoria thats developed over years after the touch of eldrazi but was never devoured. Which also ties into returning to zendikar pretty handily... which isnt that supposed to happen soon too?
Im interested to see how they crap up the story, because i feel tying it to eldrazi is an interesting direction and helps explain quite a bit of the uniqueness of the plane without just saying lol its magic!

The only thing I can actually refute is the crystals look nothing like Kozilek's effect. The effect Kozilek leaves behind looks like solidified Bismuth which looks nothing like these formations which look like normal gemstone crystals(if scaled up to match the godzilla sized themes of this set). Other than that all I can say is that just because something looks similar doesn't mean it has to be that thing, and that I just hope not. I, and I feel like many here would echo the sentiment, would be happy to let the Eldrazi sit for several more years before we go back to see what they decided the reason for Emrakul's actions were.
Unfortunately it sounds, from other users, like there was apparently two different versions of the story floating around WotC. There's Wexler's version and the version being put forth in the various story blurbs and apparently they don't match up.
I would think that being a "Nightmare" it should've been black & come into play with either a death touch or infect counter. I understand it getting either flying or first strike for being white, but just not being a "Nightmare". Maybe it could've been just a beast or something more aligned with white and still keep that great artwork.

Most creatures in the set follow a certain color assignment for its monsters. White gets Cats, blue gets Elementals, black gets Nightmares, red gets Dinosaurs, and green gets Beasts. The remaining spillover is mostly for flavor reasons. Each wedge color is represented by a triome, and white and black overlap in two places, Savai and Indatha. Thus, we have white Nightmares.

Indeed, though the confusion is likely coming from not seeing as many creature type bleeds from the other colors but blue (which has at least one Beast and Dinosaur spoiled). Plus, Nightmares do feel out of place in white at first glance. I think when we get more of those creature type bleeds spoiled, it'll be clearer what's going on. We should be getting get green Nightmares, too.
Honestly, the other four types don't feel out of place in their enemy colors as well, except for black. But I suppose something like Horror would run into similar problems. Does black have a creature type that would lend itself to the giant monster feel that wouldn't also feel a bit out of place in white and green?

See I was expecting New Phyrexia to overlay onto this plane.

My squirrel tribal has white, it's Morophon, and is only casual so I will probably run this.
