For some reason I could have sworn that at the time I wrote my response this thread was entitled 2 new cards and 1 reprint. Now, maybe I was having a moment but that's where the response came from.

That was the original title of the thread, it looks like it got edited later.

Forbidden Friendship is just the card a couple of my Pioneer token decks were looking for. More critical mass of 2cmc, 2 1/1 creature spells to add to Dragon Fodder. Almost a Krenko's Command for the format. Yippee!!!

Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
I get that it's supposed to be heartwarming. Still it fails in multiple instances once you move past to obligatory "Awww" response that is practically expected of you, lest you must be dead inside:
1) "Damn right, human, we both want to survive, and you'll sustain me just fine at least for a while. Yum!"
~~~First point destroyed further down, courtesy of Manasurfer. '^^ ~~~
2) If he was a soldier who gave up all his wealth to reunite with the dino, I'd like to see some change in his wardrobe from the first two 'scenes' to the last one that reflects that.
3) 'Forbidden' Friendship? Not 'Unlikely' Friendship or something else that doesn't sound like a soap opera? "Oh, I just wish we were allowed to be friends, little dino. But alas, 'tis not meant to be. Ach!"
Strange a plant eating dinosaur, one based on a Saurolophus, would eat meat.
Hahaaa! Dammit! Okay, gotta scratch that first point now. Got any response to crush my other two criticisms? I'd genuinely like to begrudge this whole thing a lot less.
For point 2, his clothes are probably just the ones he has on his back on day one. Later on he would have to steal some off of dead hunters, make his own, or barter with the humans who share a similar interest to protect the monsters.
For point three I think the name, Forbidden Friendship, is because the majority of the human culture views Monsters as nothing more than savage beasts that threaten to tear down their society. While those who want to protect monsters are in the minority.
Theres some ink invested in the Planeswalker's guide on how much the humans who bond with monsters are looked down on and must give up to support their new friendship. This is definitely, not unusual; it's Ikoria's love that will not be named. Also, it's subtle but the clothing in Cathartic Reunion is more dishevelled so an argument could be made for it showing the passage of time, but more importantly - his lot in life has not improved over time which one would expect. So the lack of more finery, or other marks of respect, show that he has turned his back on society. All in all, I think they did a fine job telling this story.
Didn't notice the minor touch on the clothes, good eye.
This guy has clearly sever head trauma and most of society would see this as animal abuse.
The crazy soldier probably slaughtered all the people and wants to make out with this dino (but humans cant mutate, theres a reason for that).
The first big flesh eating monster will happily consume both of them.
And the 4th of the series is how this guy ends up , Uncle Istvan ...
Remind me again. How many films, including kids films, have had the main character go out of their way to protect something that is fundamentally misunderstood because of fearmongering by those with power and how the message of the story is "who is truly the savage?".
Maybe on any other plane, but one of the key points of this plane is a form of psychic symbiosis between animals and humans who are forced to flee society because everyone else thinks anyone involved in this kind of a symbiotic relationship is a traitor to humanity. This whole plane is intended as an homage to B movies and pulp fiction and this is certainly an idea that can be traced back to the original materials.
This is the most beautiful story
The real question is: will this art for reunion substiture the other one?
On the cards themselves, the new token creator isn't the worst thing ever, having a non-human and a human provides a bunch of flexibility.
What? He’s correct. Cathartic Reunion and Capture Sphere are reprints.
