Surly Badgersaur3R
Creature - Badger Dinosaur (R)
-Whenever you discard a creature card, put a +1/+1 counter on Surly Badgersaur.
-Whenever you discard a land card, create a Treasure Token. (It's an artifact with "t, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color.")
-Whenever you discard a noncreature, nonland card, Surly Badgersaur fights up to one target creature you don't control.

Magic's fourthTrilobitecard (not counting changeling and Mistform shenanigans), is what happens when a Hangarback Walker and an Everflowing Chalice love each other very much. It's also nice that it can add that counter back to itself.
Well that Trilobite looks tasty wonder how people will abuse it. The Badger Dinosaur is very good and i m happy that it only triggers from you otherwise Croxa would be more nasty than it alread is.
So, janky combo that I'm not sure what anyone would do with, but Cryptic Trilobite (either with 3 counters on it, or 2 counters plus 2 free mana) + Paradise Mantle on a Gilder Bairn = infinite colorless mana that can only be used to activate abilities...? (and/or infinitely large trilobite)
I'm sure there are likely much more useful combos with it, but this is just the one that popped into my head, cause I love Gilder Bairn.
Surly Badgersaur is very good. The main skill tests with it will involve: Cycling lands at the opprotune time and when to cycle a noncreature nonland so your badger can survive. Meanwhile the trigger for a cycling a creature is the most braindead one that doesn't involve much thought.
They had the perfect opportunity to put this guy on a card and they blew it. I'll get you for this Midler! *waves fist*
Aww, the Trilobite is trying to be like a Sol Ring. Who's a cutsy-wootsy little Trilobitey?!
As for the badger? That's actually pretty cool. I could see a weird combo with Moonfolk in particular Meloku in some builds. Run Thwart and maybe Flooded Shoreline for extra fun.
But that's just how I think.

I wonder what compelled them to decide to make the trilobite colorless from a flavor standpoint
The badgersaur thingy is pretty decent, i want to try it out in a couple of edh builds
Probably because they're "ancient". Hung out for around 300 million years and died off 250ish million years ago. Earth plane if you must. Since the Eldrazi are also "ancient" beings according to the lore and they are colorless then I guess it stands to reason that a trilobite is also colorless as well. I don't really follow the Planeswalkers lore very much, only what I read in passing, I'm quite confident someone else will come along and correct me.

i dunno man, sure they're millions of earth years older than dinosaurs, but dinosaurs are still colored and they're ancient too on earth's timeline. we also have electryte in red already. most likely there is no flavor reason and they figured colorless so every edh can jam it

Sure I pretty much lost interest in the lore for awhile now so I'll just go with your answer.
You know, Gemstone Array and Signpost Scarecrowcould be the filter needed to channel the mana given by Cryptic Trilobite. Gemstone would be more permanent in that it'll give you charge counters you can use at your leisure, but you will feel kinda bad when it disappears, but Signpost Scarecrow is a filter on a stick, so you can drop him while Trilobite it out with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed (which would let you just use Trilobite at (1)(1) and still be functional. To say nothing of its potential in the deck it's home to, which would let you have more mana available to cycle. just something I theory brewed in this deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/breya-cycle/?cb=1587789345
Signpost Scarecrow is really conflicting... On the one hand, it's not "on a stick" since it's a creature, so it should be "on legs" (correct me if I'm wrong, but I always thought "on a stick" was when some instant/sorcery effect ends up on a non-creature artifact). However, the scarecrow is literally on a stick...

It sure Waste Nots
I'm not sure about the Trilobite at all, but the Badgersaur is great in a variety of decks.
Archatmos
Excellion
Fracture: Israfiel (WBR), Wujal (URG), Valedon (GUB), Amduat (BGW), Paladris (RWU)
Collision (Set Two of the Fracture Block)
Quest for the Forsaken (Set Two of the Excellion Block)
Katingal: Plane of Chains
I quite like that design.
Modern: WUBRG Humans - GBW Traverse - GWU Knightfall - GRW Bushwhacker Zoo -

Ugin's Conjurant
Unfortunatelly Ugin's Conjurant and Scion of Ugin did it first, but yay this is a very good card, same for the red one.
Also Mysterious Egg.
The trilobite might be friends with kozilek for the lots of activated ability artifacts to make real mana
If you look at the crunch
The egg is 3 on the crunch so atleast 2 more
