This is exceptional removal, and though I doubt players will lose life to it much, it's not even a terrifying drawback if the creature you're removing was going to cost you the game. Not to mention that BW is also the color combination best suited to either provide a cushion for the life loss preemptively or recoup it later.
Well with the WB legendary grandpa i think Human tribal will be prety popular. If you go into WB R you can use the 1WWR token producer enchantment from eldraine.

That and you have 40 life in edh so it’s barely scratching the surface of life and like you said life gain is obnoxious large in commander
