Heliod's Punishment - 1W
Enchantment - Aura / Uncommon
Heliod's Punishment enters the battlefield with four task counters on it.
Enchanted creature can't attack or block.
It loses all abilities and has "T: Remove a task counter from Heliod's Punishment."
Then if it has no task counters on it, destroy Heliod's Punishment.
Well there is the the white Intervention. I feel indifferent about it. I mean the first mode is decent? Instant enchantment or artifact removal is good.
The Aura has some unexpected come outs. So Heliod is killed in Theros and can return?
Nice! So Heliod is Humbled And punished but presumably not killed. This is adequate as hitting his pride is the fate he deserves and would resent most. It seems to me it is like the example I mentioned in the other thread before this card was spoiled (when Zeus stripped Poseidon’s immortality and forced him to build the walls of Troy) so it appears Heliod will be forced to carry out humiliating tasks to teach him a lesson in Responsibility before Being permitted to return to Nyx
I think he is killed but in Theros. Heliod seems to be in the underworld where he is punished (maybe because of a deal with Erebos) but later released or he can free himself after some time. I believe to remember that Xenagos had to be killed in Nyx to be really dead. He has some chains going on, like the new Polukranos and we saw Elspeth stabbing him in the background of her Planeswalker card.
White Intervention: I expected nothing and was still disappointed. The first mode isn't THAT bad, sure, on that ratio it's kinda like a slightly better Crush Contraband which is... uh, not exactly a high bar to pass, but the second mode is atrocious. I was expecting Secure the Wastes and that second mode for XW at Sorcery, which would be boring af but at least Standard playable, but 4 mana to gain 4 life? Couldn't they even add in a "draw a card" to that second effect? It would still be worse than Revitalize - a freaking Common, mind you - but at least you could "cycle" it for WW if there's nothing to blow up, making it potentially maindeck playable.
Heliod's Punishment: Really cool effect, cool art, nice flavor. Art seems like a throwback to Weight of the Underworld, even down to the yellow aura surrounding the black sphere. Not sure if it's good enough for Constructed though, the fact it removes all abilities is very nice but unless you're an aggressive deck, it's likely your opponent is getting his creature back before the game ends, but I still think it's overall better than Pacifism. Oh, and if you want to get cute with it, we do have Proliferate.
It’s possible he’s killed and in the underworld as a dead god being punished. But the removal of the counters and the fact they’re called task counters suggests to me this is temporary but humiliating and awful for Heliod

Even worse, everyone on Theros will remember this forever. Heliod's followers might desert him en masse after this. It's really the worst thing that can happen to a god on Theros.

Except you can take massive revenge and let everyone suffer even more.

Correct. He is at major risk of losing devotion and thus power. But likely not to disappear outright. Remember this pantheon is stable, the other gods believe in themselves and each other. So he will remain, but losing followers may be catastrophic to his ranking on Theros. I imagine in time he can compensate for this though. His domain as the Sun makes this favorable because his presences masks Nyx and the other gods, and the sun is something that is seen every day. And is critical. Theros has a short memory but some version of this incident will survive as a myth I’m sure.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

While I am on the same page with your opinion I have to point out that you would get 8 life from 4 mana but yeah that mode will be very situational and is mostly garbage.
I don't get it. Why is there no life gain matter card (excluding Heliod) in the set? About half of the card have some kind of life gain effect in white.
Edit: Hold on I am wrong is 2WW X and you were tasking about the overall cost so it is 4 mana for 4 Life. I am not sure if the first mode is better than Crush Contraband. At least the cards will be removed for good. No Dance of the Manse or Emry, Lurker of the Loch shenanigans and better for commander.
Heliod's Intervention is an incredibly good white card, immediately applicable to any white deck as spot removal that scales with mana very hard. Return to Dust is already the going rate for the slot this fits into and this is better in many of those places. (Not off of Sunforger though.) Given how strongly this scales with mana, I feel like it replaces a board wipe slot when you run a board wipe to deal with non-creature decks. I feel like the closest comparison at present is Austere Command.
What's notable here is that if you're paying X = ~4 for this, you're hitting the things you care about, but not any of your own permanents, effectively approximating a 1-sided board wipe, which white doesn't yet have. This is important because white is often reliant on artifact-based ramp and equipment or enchantment synergies to try to keep up with other colors. Being 1-sided plays into that workaround better than a true board wipe. This lets you develop your board as normal proactively with the means to interact later with all the things if need be.
This is a big deal for white and something I've been looking for for a while now. The closest at present is Sunforger grabbing Boros Charm into Hour of Revelation, which is still very solid, but requires a ton of setup. This is a psuedo board wipe out of a spot removal slot. Or a board wipe you can cast on their turn as cheap spot removal if they try to go off. It's flexible and while I think specific white shells have better alternatives, the floor for white has been raised... as long as this remains relatively budget.

Bruh, you wanted XW put twice x 1/1s into play?? 6 mana for 10 1/1s??

No, I said Secure the Wastes and that second mode, costed at XW, as a Sorcery. Secure the Wastes would be the first mode. And it's not even what I wanted, more like what I expected, and even though it would suck, it would still be 10x better than a sideboard card for a color that really doesn't needs more sideboard cards.

And the double is life
Hmm I can’t tell if Heliod was killed or not based on the aura (maybe for starting the war and murdering Elspeth)
Seems appropriate.
And his intervention is a spell my Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim deck needs *now*.

Oh looking at the Elspeth alt art
Unless a reverse image she’s stabbing another god so maybe Erebos as well hopefully
The other God she's stabbing is Xenagos.

It does also take away all abilities. Which is pretty useful.

Gaining twice X life was pretty easy to predict, though.
