that was definitely a color pair that needed another planeswalker!!!!
also was he "created" like a golem or something? Or was he made an agent of fate and he happens to be just regular old born? If it's the former...how does he even get a spark?
Imo they should had Ajani in this slot. I mean it is nice to have a enchantment focused walker but... Is it really that great here? For me it looks like a card made entirely for enchantress EDH decks and thus it would feel more in home on a Commander deck (or in that new commander set that will be relesed later this year).
While I loved Calix design, I do miss Ajani. If Elspeth is about to leave the Underworld, he should be there to give a proper Welcome-Back-Giant-Cat-Hug
I like nothing about this card. Estrid players are getting their deck spoon fed to them.
As opposed to zombie/vampire/angel/graveyard decks getting spoonfed by the Innistrad block? Planeswalker/superfriend decks with War of the Spark? Artifact decks with Kaladesh? Merfolk/vampires/dinosaurs with Ixalan?
It's just how it goes, and there's nothing abnormal about it.
I like him. Curious about how he works out story wise and about the lore around him though. Surprised he’s Green/White, but with only Ajani and Huatli for that color pair if I recall right having a third option is nice. Red isn’t exactly Enchantment leaning either, at least compared to White.

I have a hunch that just before Calix's spark ignited, he was an enchantment creature of some sort. Now, I still don't know how Enchantment Creature - Humans get created in Nyx...I doubt all of them are plucked from the dead like the demigods were....
I wonder if the trails (wind? webs?) surrounding him and his weapons are somewhat similar to the ones on The Wanderer on purpose, unintentionally or just completely unrelated?
I also wonder what his unique static ability that added loyalty was going to be.

Nah it's just extra klothys strands. They really do look almost identical.
$5 says it was +1 for enchantments entering the battlefield.

I think there will probably be another revisit to Theros. It looks this set is set just when chaos is just breaking loose on Theros with a war between the gods causing the Titans to be freed. Next set would probably be Theros: Clash of the Titans or something, and Ajani can arrive in time.

I'm looking into adding this planeswalker as well, and I have none in my Tuvasa EDH deck. The planeswalker is narrowly designed, but for that one design (enchantments), it works well.
I am so happy and delighted that his card features even more of art vertically. I know PW cards usually do but his art was cropped so I wasn’t sure. Beautiful flowing nyx robes!
I remember every time a survey asked me what I’d like to see I wrote a handsome Theros planeswalker here is my bb and All of his abilities impress me. My Theros enchantment planeswalker at long last is here! Yes yes!
I'm going to need several copies of him. Already have a pioneer deck waiting for him, as well as my Tuvasa Commander deck.
Now I need to work on a Standard deck to fit him in.
In the right shell I believe he can be powerful. Unfortunately I believe it's going to be hard to use his -3 more than once...
But overall I love that card in every aspects. Colours, Enchantment-related abilities, Design, Art. Might become my favorite walker!!!
Overall I'm pleasantly surprised with the white cards on Theros
I do wish she was mono white that is my only gripe with this card. His abilities all feel mono white to me but perhaps I am just biased. I will certainly need to find a way to accommodate green in my Currenr UW deck somehow

I think the sheer love of enchantments just flat out makes him GW as far as "leadership identity" is concerned. I mean, Brawl isn't a great place to run an enchantress build but if I were going to, I'd want access to both colors and this guy satisfies that need. My Tuvasa EDH could almost drop blue and not care that much if Calix had the "can be your commander" text.

True, and in commander cards like Sterling Grove and Enchantress Presence etc require green. Making him mono white (which I know is challenging with elspeth) opens him up to slotting in more commander decks though. But yeah it does make sense as GW. Being RG would have been awkward
I just remembered Kestia. There is a bant enchantress legend from Theros to open my Ephara deck up to green! How did I forget? I’ve had her on the side waiting for a good chance to adopt a deck around her. Calix is it. I wonder if I should just go fill 5c at this point with Jodah though and never bemoan a color combination again. Just have all the damn things

My personal flavor rule in Tuvasa is that every card must either be an enchantment or say enchantment somewhere in its text box. I cheated for a while to play Monastery Mentor but have since gone back to that rule. So Jodah is a no-go for me and since he isn't on flavor for you I suspect the sane is true.
I like the card itself, but the character's design is a bit yawn inducing. Outside of having the enchantment, Nyx sparkly bits on him he's just Teferi wearing green.

I agree. I’ll stick with Kestia to maintain the Theros theme. I usually make similar rules for my decks.

Most eidolon are the spirits of the dead (the spirit goes to nyx while the body becomes a Returned). Some creatures in Nyx are mortals that the gods allowed or imprisioned in nyx (polukranos, and other enchantment creatures). Other are dead mortals that the gods allow to be on nyx (demigods now and before humans and driads, etc). The gods also can create creatures (in some kind of way).
They probably will reveal his sparking and explain from were he comes.

Commander: WUBRG Superfriends, GW Rhys Tokens, WUBRG Scion of the Ur-Dragon
Kitchen Table (now that's real Magic): WUBRG Domain, GU Biovisionary, UB Korlash Grandeur, UW Merfolk Mill

And going into my Tuvasa deck. I hope he gets a playmat...

For what it's worth, "Calyx" is a real word with ancient greek origins. Whether that means anything for his role or design is anyone's guess.

Having all that said I can't help but think of Asterix and the other gallic characters when I hear Calix.

Maybe in the sense of a seed pod for cotton as the origin of the threads of fate?
