This is weird for blue I’m willing to bet this is prep for Ikoria since it’s a safe bet kaijus (or whatever creature type) will be that converted mana cost or higher
This might be a failure to preview card from Saturday or Sunday
Well, I'll take a Cavalier of Gales (or any cavalier for that matter) for 4 on T6 with mana back to cast removal or a counter spell so I't not like there's no value between now and the spring set.
There must be a Giant theme in Ikoria or something. Why couldn’t this have been a Kraken. Sigh. It’s exactly the sort of support the deck needs
I believe, my friend, that we will be getting screwed on our Krakens for this set.
I also believe this sadly. Titans and Giant tribal for whatever reason ate up design space that krakens would have otherwise had. Which royally sucks.
That said, I love Shoal Kraken and I’ll play Nadir Kraken despite its shortcomings. With all the Thassa themed cards, there are many new cards fighting for space on my sea monster deck already. But I am sad we didn’t get a tribal support card for krakens at least, like whelming wave

I'm afraid you're right but looking forward to the gleeful discourse that will happen should you be proven wrong. I honestly won't care half as much about the card as I will about reading your response to it.

Haha well I do hope I’m wrong and there’s one rare or mythic worthy kraken left to see. Or at least an Arixmethes or Olantin reference there somewhere. There are quite a few cards I’m waiting to see as well. The set has done a considerable amount right. The giants are it’s first real flub for me I’d say. Will have to wait and see!
ugh. <snip> in edh. can't wait to see everyone to be flashing this guy in eot, then cast uncounterable expropriates with counter backup just in case someone might actually be able to deal with that.
I assume this means we'll get a cycle of Rare Mono-Legends as well? This is the Blue one and we already had the Black one and the Green one.
As for the card itself, it seems great, but a bit random? I'm a bit rusty on my classical mythology, so I'm going to assume it's meant to represent one of the many personifications in Greek myths, like the sons of Nyx like Hypnos and Thanatos, but I could be wrong? IDK, it's cool but yeah I assume it's a plant for a future set, because it seems so random compared to everything Theros is already trying to do.

Eh. If it’s a cycle this is the first time I hate the blue option for being a boring creature type

It seems weird that the other members of the cycle are enchantment creatures and the blue entry is not. He also doesn't have an enchantment related ability. So, while he does fit in terms of name there are lots of legends of the <name>, the <ominous thing> variety. I'm on the fence for now.

I’m guessing he’s not an enchantment because of the limited amount of space available in the card type line, WOTC must have decided making him an Elemental Giant was worth him not being able to also be an enchantment. There is a giants matter card in Eldraine (and probably more to come in Ikoria) and there is the Elementals matter theme of M20. He could also could not be an enchantment simply because they wanted to limit the amount of ways people can trigger constellation at instant speed.
Some cards I haven’t seen mentioned yet with this card are Agent of Treachery and Into the Story. Agent can be cast on curve the turn after Thryx and be uncounterable, and if your opponent had 7 or more cards in their graveyard Into the Story is an instant speed, uncounterable pay 1UU to draw four cards with Thryx in play.

That’s kind of why I think this is just a preparation for Ikoria since we’re getting monsterous creatures there

Don't get me wrong, I see the arguement in favor of him being part of the cycle. But he won't be the only rare creature in U in this set so he may just be a plant and there may be another legend that fills the cycle. Again, I'm still not sold either way.

I wonder what type of monsters? Something tells me giants and other lesser tapped into types as opposed to krakens, dragons, hydras and other traditional ones
The "can't be countered" part of this card seems like a bit much. I didn't even notice that at first and thought this card was still pretty cool, but that last bit is surprising to say the least.

Given that MaRo has specifically said "we can do monstrous in any set so we ended up not doing it again in THB" I wonder if there'll be monstrous monsters in the mix in Ikoria.
Yeah this card feels like it will enable strategies in Ikoria more than it being something specifically designed for Theros.
Especially since Ikoria is when Godzilla creatures (kaiju’s) crosses over into magic the gathering and pretty much they will probably be as exspensive mana cost as the eldrazi’s usually are
