We've seen Naiad before and yes, I do very much admire the card.
But I must celebrate another Kraken!!! I love this one. He's adorable and has a great effect!!! I admire that they're giving is some that are softer on the CMC. 5 is good. Most krakens compete for slots in 6 and 8
Ugh this set is Just so am amazing and it's agonizing me to have to get all these amazing cards
They continue to make Green the color of draw, eh? I understand that there's a rarity difference between Setessan Champion and Shoal Kraken but given the CMC difference and that the champion gets a +1/+1 counter, does the Kraken really need to loot rather than draw? Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that fueling the yard can be very helpful but having played The Royal Scions throughout most of Eldraine standard along side Gadwick, The Wizened there are plenty of times when I'm not looting because I've got exactly 1 card in hand.
Yeah the Kraken is pretty disappointing. I’m building Alela enchantress and it’s really frustrating that there’s only one non-green enchantress. And this doesn’t really get there to be the second one.
I definitely love that nymph. It seems my gut reaction to the Hippocamp spoiled the other day was right, they are subtly increasing the amount of cards that care about casting spells on other players' turns. I dig it.
It also crossed my mind that the kraken should have drawn instead of looting at 5 cmc but I still love it
In a vacuum, perhaps, but this set is about showcasing Escape.
Good point. I don’t mind either way. It’s a useful ability and a kraken. I love that sea monsters get constellation as well considering this set is causing a Massive, massive influx of enchantments into all of my commander decks (which I love)
seeing Naiad is what makes me surprised that Thassa’s activated ability wasn’t to give the next spell cast that turn flash. For example:
2U: You May cast the next spell this turn as if it has flash
Not sure about the wording or if that’s just busted but it would have been amazing with all these blue cards and the sea creatures theme

Sure, but this is blue, the colour of draw and easily the most interactive colour, with decks full of instants and sorceries. Those both tend to go to the yard fairly quickly.

Don’t forget our lionfish friend too. I’m guessing Thassa didn’t give flash because leyline is in standard, but I think she should have

They seem to have a quota of putting a ton of looting effects in every set now. The benefit of this is how it helps with consistency, but a 5 drop uncommon is going to have minimal impact to increase consistency, probably triggering only once per game. It's also a pretty weak reward for playing enchantments. Of course some cards are bound to be weaker than others, but I think they would benefit by diversifying their effects a bit more.
To be fair looting with enchantments is amazing right now. Dance of the Manse is as close to Replenish as we're going to get, but it makes constellation crazy.

I agree, the argument for this design seems to be that the constellation effect is nearly trinket text. That's fine, I get a 3/5 uncommon having inherent value in limited formats. But since it's not an enchantment itself it wouldn't even replace itself with a draw effect. Honestly, scry 1 would feel better than looting and still drives up that consistency without increasing the power dramatically.
I'm pretty sure the looting is to help with escape as others have said as well letting this card both play with the enchantment theme already in the set which a lot to of other cards design have been doing.
