I absolutely love the -X/-X type of cards, especially since I once got rid of Ulamog for only B with Dark Salvation. Battle at the Bridge was a two-of when I was playing around with Jund Energy before those sets rotated out.
I like this but the flavor text is kinda senseless. If you use this as removal, they can Escape. Lol. Silly Erebos.
Well the first options can destroy active gods. The second option can remove the cards with escape from graveyard. So it is kind of fitting.
Correct, but I think of death in the sense of the first choice, so unless you have two. One their end step, one on your turn, you get to kill them OR block escape.
Yeah, so far it looks to be as well designed as Amonkhet. Maybe even more fun, too.
Personally, the Escape mechanic makes me worried for limited.
While many formats have been slow (eldraine had life-gaining tokens as a prominent mechanic), the existence of escape may make combat too daunting and dangerous as most escape creatures double as "rattlesnakes".. even with the prevalence of exile effects we've seen (with more sure to come).
I can imagine nightmare scenarios similar to Saviors of Kamigawa limited, wherein board states grind to a halt so players can fill their hand and start discarding cards each turn to fuel more escapes.
This card, and the large amount of graveyard hate in this set alone, makes me wonder if Escape is even going make a dent in Standard. If you thought Elspeth was bad now...
Battle at the Bridge didn't see play and I suspect this won't either, but maybe maindeckable graveyard hate will actually be very important.
This is because far too many players are copycats--if it wasn't played at the last big tournament by a well-known player then they don't play it, either. Several Ramunap Red players got frustrated because I would just take a hit from Hazoret then bridge her for 5 next turn.

Its super fringe removal as its just bad at the job, but if you NEED it, you cant argue around it.
Playing a proven working deck is better in almost any case than failing to ponder around with your own brew, not that its not fun to brew stuff up, but the vast majority of people is not really successful throwing their own ideas into an actual working and competitive deck.

If these "commands" would allow to choose both modes they would be pretty useful, with just one mode, the spell is in almost any case overcosted and not really good anymore, especially as the modes are kinda luck luster to begin with.
But like always, if there isnt a better option to play, you will play what you got, bad or not, if it gets the job done, thats all you really need.

That depends upon one's point of view. I have done the netdeck thing and gone 4-0 or 5-0 at the LGS before, but that always leaves me feeling bored and unsatisfied. I would rather put something together myself and go 3-2 because at least it was mine, not someone else's. Being a professional Magic player is like being a professional sports player--everyone dreams of being on an NFL, MBA, NHL, or NBA team while playing sports in high school but the reality is that only a very few ever make it there. If I were independently wealthy--or retired--then I could devote the time necessary to get there, which necessitates grinding out games on a daily basis. That goal, though, is not important to me.

The card said pro from 2 3 or 4 cmc and it only has 1 toughness
X spells can get to any cmc so to kill it X on this has to be 1 2 or 3 depending on the one that can touch him
Targeting happens before being on the stack though, right? So it's still just cmc 1 when you go to declare a target.
You announce X then it hits the stack
It’s the same reason why void winnower doesn’t stop x spells at a odd cmc

Oh it only exiles (double X) cards from graveyards.
Well that is underwhelming. Hopefully the rest of the cycle is more interesting like Nylea's Intervention.
Difference here is that graveyard removal option for this and it may be necessary of what’s coming up in the format
Secondly we have more indestrutable creatures in the last few sets partiulary the gods
Yeah, this is super good!
I pretty much expected the -x/-x (kind of a standard for Black in cycles),
but the lifegain is a very nice bonus.
The ability to selectively exile a metric ****ton of cards from graveyards (but not everything)
is also going to be very useful.
