The previous theros block had Gold tokens that didn't tap when sac'ed to generate mana (unlike treasure). Any idea if they are keeping that templating?
This feels like it could have some place in a pioneer bogles deck, sure the 3 cmc is a top end thing, but it’s nice that it acts like an aura that provides it’s own creature should another threat be required (though it’s unprotected) and it draws cards.
I love how the art looks like Greek vase paintings. This set continues to just blow me away man. Seriously, WOTC has outdone themselves
Agree this is another dominaria and war of the spark leveled set easily
Very much so. Enhanced even more by being my favorite plane and theme. Even without my personal bias it’s remarkable; easily my favorite set in the game.
1) pick an athlete
2) train him
3) if he got good enough, payoff (not entirely sure how to interpret this)
4) win 1st place
That's pretty neat in terms of flavor.
Also, I have to echo Tiro here - so far I really love the style of Theros sagas.
Greek culture valued physical and mental excellence so chapter 2 is train the body and 3 is train the mind. (at least in IHMO). I recognize this can be very dissonant for North Americans as training the body is often an excuse used to avoid training the mind.

The card draw from chapter 3 depends on you having a 4-power creature though, so it doesn't feel like individual training of another skillset.
Also the flavor of 'olympic' games makes the whole theme of the card mostly physical

Fair points, but they are olympic "games" requiring skill, knowledge and strategy to compete and win. To me, it still feels like part of the development to get the Gold.
I suppose the difference between treasure tokens and gold tokens is that treasure tokens need to tap to sacrifice for their effect. Corner case but maybe it could be relevant somewhere.

Treasures had a tap requirement because without it they seem to be too powerful with the previous block’s Improvise.
its based of the olympics
clearly its gold instead of treasure for lore of saga reasons but gold is more fitting for theros anyway
but all modes are fantasic

I love how the first three steps flow together,
and step IV made me smile.
