Dang, it doesn't have "or attacks" (or even an Inspired riff "or untaps") which would have increased its utility to a place that would be far more useful. I love the political mind games of it all, but as it only triggers once and leaves you with a kinda dinky 3/2 menace for 4 which is going to lead to a lot of feel bad moments when you choose the wrong pile.
This is... fine, I guess? I mean Elite Guardmage is seeing play, and while digging deeper is good and the self-mill is great for Escape, the lifegain and the big butt are the reasons why the Guardmage is so powerful against aggro, and the fact that this is legendary only makes matters worse. I still like the card, if only because I'm a sucker for Fact or Fiction-like effects and Fortune's Favor is a super fun effect, but honestly... seems very underwhelming.
I really like this. I'm not sure of the power level, as it is a 3/2 for 4. I think if it had flash it would be a 100% constructed powerhouse in Standard at the very least. I do want it in my Advisor tribal. Also reminds me that Dark Confidant is a Wizard and not an advisor, which makes me sad. So yeah, full circle of emotions on this one.
Now I'm thinking why isn't this a Wizard so it can work with Naban, Dean of Iteration. Come on, Wizards! You're killing me on these creature types!

If that's not the truth! I looked at that and thought "okay, this could be a Persistent Petitioner's commander I guess but a wizard would have been so friggin' wonderful. And it's not like oracles aren't wizards on Theros (looking at you Omenspeaker). I'm seeing some kind of blue/black reanimator deck for this guy, a lock down deck kind of like Taigam, Sidisi's Hand or another Labman deck where you're just trying to draw your whole deck.
Meh. More cards wouldve been more interesting. I like that it lets your opponent potentially bluff... it just doesnt strike me as good, or exciting, just another ub creature that creates some minimal choice
If you're the allied opponent fully cooperating with the person playing this card, put all 3 cards in a face-down pile so your shared enemy opponents don't learn what the cards are.
Good tempo card, not sure where else it would fit. At its absolute worst it's a 3/2 menace that replaces itself for 4, but I imagine there's a good amount of time where you're picking up an extra card with this.
Can really take advantage of the discarded cards w/ reanimation options, flashback, and cards that play from the graveyard. Will make for an interesting Commander build.
