Him and Lindin play well together, this set really helps push a lot more of the less impressive stuff from Eldraine.

I really don’t understand why it only gives 1 creature a counter instead of all of your creatures. This is not a mythic Mythic. Do they actually want White to be the worst color in Magic? They could do so many little things to make White more viable but they consistently choose not to.
Yes each colour has a specific identity to abide by, I get it, but it becomes unimaginative after a while. Come on WOTC, stop with the lame templates for W-based legends. Stir the pot a bit...
Other than that there's one of your limited top pick contenders.

I don't really get people who expect an indestructible Archangel of Thune for 3 mana.
Lifegain has been a surprisingly okay (if unexciting) strategy for a while with pridemate, aerialist, hawk, and that annoying 1-drop vampire.
Heliod makes those decks notably better as it allows ANY creature (even 1/1 lifelink tokens) to build up into a threat rather than relying on a specific few cards from the library that grow... plus this guy is hard to remove.
While this is a terrible EDH card, it's a decent Mythic for standard (and maybe historic).

I'm not sure it's the lifegain angle itself that is making people have an unenthusiastic reaction, it's the relatively uninspired and unimpressive way it profits from lifegain that is. I wish Heliod did something more exciting with his trigger. Draw cards, tutored a Plains to your hand, did 2 damage to a creature that attacked or blocked, imprisoned a creature with CMC equal to the life gained .... something.
Heliod is probably fine as is, but why be fine when you could have been impressive?

Walking Ballista even better? Lifelink + ping to death in Pioneer...
Seems pretty bannable. Saheeli cat combo got banned although this requires either a 3rd card, 6 mana (4 for balista and 2 for lifelink) or 2 turns to go off. Bellowing Aegisaur + walking ballista never got banned so maybe this won't either?

Okay sure. But lets imagine this guy that way in soul sisters. Hes 3 mana. Youve got even just 1 lifegainer in play... is it really fair to put that many counters on your team starting that early in the game?
I mean just stop and think about that.
Hes also indestructible.
Think about that.
You go t1 crypt, plains, this guy. T2 cast soul warden. The entire game is now ****ed. Every single creature hitting play would make both him and your warden bigger. Its manageable on 1 dude, but your entire team that early?
Even outside of edh this guy comes down t2/3 and youll surely be able to net life that turn if youre building to exploit that aspect of him. In what world is that not stupid busted?
Another card to make The Great Henge even more powerful. Every turn Heliod + Henge is unanswered, you get 2 life, a +1/+1 counter on any creature or enchantment (such as a non-creature Heliod that will become a creature soon), and likely drawing cards and additional +1/+1 counters from creatures entering the battlefield.
Yes! I love this card! Excellent design and the art is phenomenal! I am very pleased and can’t wait to get this
I noticed this is the first god card that was not painted by the original artist. However I am not disappointed because Luis did a phenomenal job and I just love the art
they saves Thassa for last though and I’m not about to handle it tbh
Also works with Triskellion. Still not excited and certainly won't make me build a new commander deck. Still waiting for my favorite god in Thassa so I can see what her being without her Bident has done to her powers.
Very pushed but also very boring. 3 CMC was always a good spot for Gods, with both Thassa and Rhonas both seeing play due to it. It's also tailor-made to combo with Linden, the Steadfast Queen, as well as working exceptionally well with both Hushbringer and Ajani's Pridemate. The biggest draw here is ofc the fact that he can grow himself, and with him being a Indestructible God, it isn't that hard to ensure that he'll always be the biggest threat on the board if online.
But even then I'm not sure if that's enough to make monowhite playable, because monowhite is just waaay too vulnerable and linear. Gain life, grow dorks, maybe clear the board with Ajani if it gets stalled and that's it. Monogreen can do that as well without relying on lifegain gimmicks, and while White's utility is summed up on a 1/2 flier that sometimes stuns creature-based decks, Green's utility is the best mana rock ever printed and one of if not the best Planeswalker in Standard.
it's boring as heck, but I am still excited. it's the first of the gods this time around that I want for my Zur deck. lifelink and growth are all kinds of boring, but lifegain on Zur already holding a million things is still quite powerful, I'm glad to see it

And Heliod... is another monowhite lifegain legend. Yaaaaaay.

As long as youve got 1w up, and walking ballista or triskelion have 2 counters on them that should be game over.
Ive been tinkering with a god eternal oketra build for the less ruthless edh nights, i think he'll slot in well there
Is this sarcasm? I am legitimately unsure.

Spawns archetype named "Heliod Henge"
Great point. The Devoted Druid combo is likely just "better" but maybe you play both
That, and Ballista is the way to go
