Warriors, torch-bearers, come redeem our dreams
Shine a light upon this night of otherworldly fiends
Odin's might be your guide, divorce you from the sane
Hammer's way will have its say, rise up in their name
Scratching hag, you rake your claws, gnash your crooked teeth
You've taken slaves like ocean waves, now feel the ocean seethe

the 2/3 stats bother me. that is a single mounted knight, not a kraken that can eat a fleet. a ship full of soldiers as a Vehicle would probably be a 6/6, maybe a 5/7. I don't mind a baby kraken, there should absolutely be small examples of the huge iconic races, i loved the teeny tiny angel, but if it is going to e a 2/3, it should be shown as such

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Well that’s... weird. Treating the tentacles like independent creatures is pretty inelegant. And a giant kraken starting as 2/3 is wonky.
Prety sure it is a troupe from rpgs and online games (tentacles as separated monsters) but it is kinda weird that the tentacles don't die once the kraken dies. (maybe we can think of it's head being hurt and just the tentacles fighting).
Anyway i hope limited has lots of removal this will be disgusting to play against lol
I hate this card. It's well-costed, has a good trigger, and might even be good, but a lot about it feels wrong. I think it's the 2/3 aspect that feels off the most, plus the Tentacles being separate creatures that are dinky 1/1s. The card wants to feel epic, but the actual mechanics scream small.
I'd rather the card start huge but with -1/-1 counters removed by the same trigger and/or created larger tokens that can only attack or block with the Kraken itself. Something that makes it feel like the epic Kraken it's trying to be. I'm sure Tiro will wet himself over this card, but I can't express enough my dislike for how wrong it feels.

One thing to note is that it doesn't say whenever you draw one or more cards, so for instance if I cast Into the Story at my opponent EoT, any extra mana I have can be another creature. If I have 8 mana, its 4 cards plus 4 1/1's. I know it doesn't seem crazy, but I don't think its trash tier, either.

Oh, I'm sure it's good. I even have a casual UG deck I'm working on that cares about drawing cards that this card is perfect for. My issues with it are not mechanical/power level at all, but entirely around the way it feels. It's got some wonky ass flavor that's a real turn off which is hilarious because a couple tiny tweaks and otherwise keep the card mechanically the same and I'm sure I'd love it.
I hate to disappoint, but I must always be impartial. While I admire the 3 cmc considering I’ve been requesting smaller sea monsters on Blogatog for ages now, this should have been either themed as a baby kraken (for example, Kraken Hatchling) or they could have gone the Hydra Broodmaster route and made it a mother kraken that makes baby kraken tokens (perhaps that could be sacrificed to add U in the casting of a sea monster creature card and alleviate the strain of the tribe’s high CMC curve with minimal ramp and support). Another approach would be to call this nesting kraken and have the flavor be a dormant mother that hatched baby kraken tokens. Not all krakens need to be attacking ships. Not that I really mind, I’m really pleased to get a low cmc kraken in any form, honestly.
That said, I could easily overlook this flavor oversight if the tokens were at least kraken tokens. Whelming wave is literally the backbone of every sea monster deck. How are we going to produce a token variant that washes away during the best play of deck? This really is awkward mechanically. Had the tentacles been given a sacrifice ability for some sort of advantage, I could excuse that. But I’d be investing mana only to lose the board to my own win condition.
Props for finally delivering a low cmc kraken that can grow and become fearsome despite the Flavor shortcoming. But this card is a genuine mess that concerns me. The art is also heavily digital and rendered. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled to see a Theros kraken and will indeed play it as I do all the others. But I’m surprised it’s a rare (seriously thought it was common for a moment) and mechanically, it demonstrates a very poor understanding of how sea monster decks function and the inherent needs of playing one. Which is strange considering Theros cards originally pulled that theme together enough to be the deck that it is.
I hate to say it’s a vanilla 2/3 that gives me a bit anxiety about whether anyone is paying attention to what tribal support krakens need. But I’ll always celebrate a Theros kraken so I appreciate getting this card regardless Here’s to hoping we get at least one more kraken that’s a bit more sensibly designed
I love that this is an anagram of drain (nadir). I love that in addition to the old standbys - mutant ninja turtle, ninja dinosaur pirate, I can now have tentacle faerie. I love that our sea critter tribe gets another low drop (where's my segovian kraken?). But...I agree that the card feels wonky. The tentacles should have been "kraken tentacle" - tentacle is a class like warrior/knight/noble - right? And then...the power and toughness. How would you represent a huge critter that needs to be empowered to be effective? I would have made some game play sacrifice for flavor and make it a 0/5, 1/5 or 0/6 - the answer to which of those potential combinations depending on limited metagame (removal, common power toughness amounts, etc)

Kraken Tentacle would have indeed made this card far more elegant and desirable. Good idea. I frankly don’t mind the stats since I imagine it’s to justify the cmc. I can imagine the kraken slowly emerging, unfurling more tentacles with time.
but losing the tokens to whelming wave just doesn’t feel right
Outside of the weirdness of this card this definitely does feel pretty good. One turn with this gives you two bodies, 4 power, and 5 toughness which is never bad. Definitely a decent card and I love it just because it's a smaller sea monster, something we rarely every see.
Head canon is krakens are like chickens and their tentacles continue to trash and move after death.

I like the flavor. 2/3 means it's a small kraken that grows every turn, and tentacles - able to survive on their own if they're cut off from the main body - multiply over time. Like an unstoppable growing monster. Love it. It's MTG, they have the right to think monsters the way they want and not fit to the existing stereotypes. It reminds me of the small Segovian Leviathan, so weird in comparison to the TRVE LEVIATHAN of my young years.
And it's constructed playable.

For me, I look at this as the emergence of a large sea creature rather than the growth. The Kraken starts off as a tiny hump in the middle of the sea and as it's caster feeds it the main body looms larger and larger and the tentacles start to emerge.
For me, as I'm currently running Faerie Vandal et al as my main Arena deck I don't know that I can make room for this - although it looks like it should be exactly for me. I'm open to trying two, I just don't know what I want to cut for it.
