If wizards ever decided "to heck with the secondary market we're gonna sell cheap singles ourself now" flgs's will just stop carrying magic and the entire house of cards will collapse.
I'm afraid that's where we're at right now. If the FLGS dies completely what happens to Magic as a game? Hopefully they don't go super crazy with selling direct to consumer. What's really dangerous about all this is the kind of message it sends to Magic's Trading Card Game / Collectible Card Game competitors with Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokémon TCG, Cardfight!! Vanguard, Dragon Ball Super, Final Fantasy TCG, etc. What's stopping the companies behind these games from selling direct to consumer? Why undercut the FLGS when you can undercut eBay, Amazon, and other online retailers in the process?
Without a physical location to play there would be no need to buy product in the first place. Most FLGS's tend to rely on Organized Play in order for certain Trading Card Games / Collectible Card Games to survive in their area. The more casual Magic gets with EDH / Commander the less Wizards of the Coast wants anything to do with it other than selling products even though the FLGS SHOULD be in their best interest. Instead they judge communities based on negativity from social media instead of the people who are willing to enjoy Magic as a hobby out in public.

Au my lgs many people play commander and they complain when the store needs to use tables for actual tourneys, at the same time they don't buy cards regularly and act snobbish when people play only standard, or pioneer or modern.
They are a cancer level outbreak at the lgs, they refuse to play competitive formats and when they are in the store they are very loud during their 4 or 5 man games.

I guess the reason why they don't buy cards regularly is because they think they can get better deals online or from a different LGS that's selling the cards for much cheaper. It's important to have respect for other players regardless If they're casual or competitive. I think If the LGS offered more table space then there would probably be less complaints when the issue is that they don't want to commit to that sort of thing due to cost.

This isn't the first time WotC sold direct to consumers though. Back when WotC used to have Pokemon IP, I bought booster boxes (of Pokemon) direct from Wizards website. In 1999 or thereabouts, WotC acquired The Game Keepers chain alongside opening their own brick and mortar stores. LGSs survived quite nicely through both of these "direct to consumer" attempts. I'm sure the viable LGSs will survive equally as well through this round of direct sales as well.

Do you recall Wizards of the Coast selling individual card singles for the Pokémon TCG that were in high demand on the Secondary Market at the time? There's a difference between selling booster boxes "direct to consumer" as opposed to just selling individual cards "direct to consumer" due to randomization requirements. If there isn't a form of randomization involved when selling these products "direct to consumer" then Wizards of the Coast could get into some serious trouble with the U.S. Government. They knew they had to distribute Secret Lair with some form of randomization along with the individual single cards they're selling which just so happened to be stained glass illustrations of Planeswalker cards from War of the Spark.
The problem is that If Secret Lair is the new normal for Magic in terms of replacing Masters sets with "direct to consumer" individual cards that you can only order online through Wizards of the Coast being the only available vendor instead of being able to purchase them at your LGS; then they're going to go out of business with nobody having a place to play Magic. If there is a silver lining to all of this, it's that LGS owners will find ways to "cheat the system" by ordering these online exclusive products just to sell to their LGS customers in order to stay in business. If they get caught in the act then Wizards of the Coast has no one to blame but themselves because it shows that they care more about Magic as a collectible rather than an actual game.

Its not necessarily bad it has a random element, but I wonder why they didn't disclose that.
Surely the prospect of getting a new and random alternate art planeswalker from War of the Spark would have driven people to buy more to have more chances of getting the planeswalkers one would have wanted.
I do get that there was the whole viral marketing of people showing off their lairs on social media platforms with the planeswalkers inside which caused a large amount of people to impulse buy on DEC 2nd. But wouldn't people have impulsed buy anyway if they knew ahead of time when the product was revealed on OCT 25th?
Even their Secret Lair Recap page hasn't been updated to talk about planeswalkers. Same with their Secret Lair FAQ page which was updated 14 hours ago as of writing.
The other oddity was the sponsored videos for the seven lairs. Not because they were sponsored, but that the sponsored ones never revealed a hidden planeswalker card. Which implies wizards purposefully had one of each made without the planeswalker card.
Even stranger is what I've been been seeing on ebay. The only stained-glass planeswalkers that are up for sale or have been sold are: Ajani, Ashiok, Huatli, Jace, Gideon, Nicol Bolas, Ral, Sorin, Teferi, Tamiyo.
The reason it is strange is the only revealed ones have been: Ajani, Ashiok, Angrath, Domri, Huatli, Nahiri, Jace, Gideon, Nicol Bolas, Ral, Sorin, Teferi, The Wander, Teyo, Tamiyo.
To add to this weirdness, In addition on TCGPlayer only one seller, LastSavePoint, seems to be the only one selling certain unknown planeswalkers at $99.99 each, however other sellers that do have the known ones listed are easily under cutting them. Which implies that LastSavePoint did a preemptive listing and assumed they were available.
Even more bizarre is there have been posts on twitter of certain secret lair orders containing 7/7 Ashioks or 4/7 Domris.
Which implies that not all planeswalkers from WAR are in the secret lairs based on those discrepancies as surely someone at some point would have revealed having one of the ones not already revealed whether on social media or a selling website.
And this is all on top of the "flash sales" going on where you can only buy certain ones on certain days for a limited time, can't even buy the 7-pack anymore. Well unless you want the scalper's price.
It all has this strange funky air to it, one of dishonesty and swindling.
(Only reason I'm noticing all of this is I've just been sitting here patiently waiting for stained-glass versions Chandra, Fire Artisan and Nissa, Who Shakes the World to show up anywhere. But they never do)

I don't recall everything that was sold direct from WotC at the time. I do remember, however, there were various iterations of their store front ranging from direct from WotC to a link that redirected you to an 3rd party (eBay?) store front. I don't recall everything that was sold however. Kind of wished I kept the boosters I never opened in their original shipping boxes.
However, WotC has sold singles, sort of. They even sold RL reprints through them. Do you recall the From the Vault series? That's the closest to true singles and RL reprints that I've seen.
Shipping to Japan is $26,for one small box, so no deal. I was going to get the kaleidoscope killers but paying $66 for 3 cards doesn't make sense.
Even is they're $25 each that doesn't mean much.

The order page now says quantities are limited. I understood this product was print to demand with a limited order window. I wondered how they were going to manage printing and packaging the cards in such a short turn around.
Checking my email I realized I haven't redeemed either my Arena or MTGO codes. So I check my emails, find the link to the redemption... and I have to wait ten minutes due to the load? Huh? I'm not ordering more merchandise so why do I have to wait in line? What kind of load is there to fetch code(s)?
There is a small blurb on the page that if I redeem any code, I can no longer get a refund. I thought all sales were final.
I haven't found any info specifying when or if the redemption codes expire at all.
My order processing still shows as pending. Carrier shows it's in transit.
Signature is required. Guess I missed that detail. Hopefully someone will be home when the package shows up.
And this is all on top of the "flash sales" going on where you can only buy certain ones on certain days for a limited time, can't even buy the 7-pack anymore. Well unless you want the scalper's price.

I think that's been the biggest complaint from customers where Secret Lair isn't designed to purchase these individual cards akin to "Buy It Now" on eBay or online purchases made on Amazon. Implementing Secret Lair as a 24 hour flash sale for individual cards is not only unfair for those who want to purchase these cards whenever it feels convenient to them but it's also unfair to the LGS (Local Game Store) whose trying to make a profit flipping singles while at the same time providing a place to play for players.
I don't recall everything that was sold direct from WotC at the time. Except you could still get From the Vault at your LGS when it was available. Secret Lair is online exclusive unless your LGS owner is lucky enough to sell the product at their store. As far as Reserve List reprints go the only one I remember that made the cut recently was Scroll Rack in Kaladesh Inventions back when Wizards of the Coast was greedy on lottery cards. In a sense they sort of are with the exclusive Heroes of the Realm cards such as the Boros Optimus Prime that got leaked including an Enchantment Saga that can be your Commander.

So, my five bundles came in today, and it was a bit disappointing as far as walker distribution goes.
7 x Ashiok (including the first 6 drops opened)
6 x Ajani
6 x Gideon
4 x Sorin
3 x Tamiyo
2 x Domri
2 x Nahiri
2 x Wanderer
1 x Jace
1 x Huatli
1 x Teyo
I bought them prior to knowing about the walkers, so they're a bonus all told. However, I purchased 17 more individual drops after, and I hope those deliver a better spread. I expected to maybe get 3-4 of a few, but I never imagined getting 6-7 of any in the full 52, let alone the first 35.
As far as Reserve List reprints go the only one I remember that made the cut recently was Scroll Rack in Kaladesh Inventions back when Wizards of the Coast was greedy on lottery cards. Scroll Rack isn't on the Reserved List. The reference was to foil versions of Phyrexian Negator in a Duel Deck and, more specifically, Mox Diamond, Karn, Silver Golem, Memory Jar, and Masticore in FtV: Relics. Nothing after that set has been printed from the Reserve List.
I mean yeah the concern is there about it disrupting the secondary market but I think with the cards priced at about the cost they currently are on the market it's not very disruptive. I was really talking more about why it costs $30 for one card (plus lagniappe, looks like). When it's a real danger is when they put the cards up for, I dunno, a dollar or whatever's a good margin for wizards.
So it appears the Planeswalkers in some of these are random, and in some are not. For example, Everyone who has opened Seeing Visions online has gotten Ashiok, everyone who has opened OMGKitties! has gotten an Ajani, however the others seems to pull from some select walkers. I saw no informmation on getting Domri in Kaleidoscope Killers, but that was in one of mine. I also ended up with Gideon twice in one of the bundles I ordered. I have not seen anyone open up Liliana or Narset yet, but Kaleidoscope Killers has evidence of Teferi.

As I keep saying, liliana will probably not be included due to the higher value compared to the other walkers.

Check out my Youtube channel where I upload MTG content videos twice a week!
So it appears that WotC's printer/packaging isn't getting it right. There are reports of:
Some boxes are missing their Planeswalker.
A box with two Planeswalkers.
Someone receiving all lands for the Kaleidoscope Killers instead of the correct cards. Even then, they're missing the mountain and got two plains.
Cards are damaged, either scratched so badly the foil is showing through or the cards are unreasonably bent.
The beef here is this is a premium product and such errors should be non-existent. I can't find the original source (reddit I believe) so I don't know if they're just isolated cases or it's more extensive.
Good luck to those who bought theirs. Mine just arrived today.
What are you talking about? Scroll Rack isn't on the Reserved List.
And that last sentence makes no sense, are you saying that Wizards is somehow greedy for printing Heroes of the Realm cards that are only being distributed (not sold) to Hasbro employees?
As I keep saying, liliana will probably not be included due to the higher value compared to the other walkers.
And as I told you in the other thread, the value of alt art Liliana comes from the fact that Amano's name is on it. If they put stained glass Liliana in this product at roughly the same rate as other mythic walkers, then its markup wouldn't be massively inflated.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

All I'm saying is that it's unfair for Magic players outside of Hasbro employees not to have access to the Heroes of the Realm cards which is different from Judge Promos since they're just reprints anyway. Wizards of the Coast could reprint these cards in mass quantities much like with other cards on the Secondary Market needing reprints yet they do nothing about it. Hopefully the Mystery Booster product next year will be available for the LGS due to how Secret Lair was an attempt to undermine it.

The "Hero" cards are basically just proxy cards.
If you want them, simply use your printer and make you some, they are not legal anyway, and if you just want to play them casually, who cares where you got them from.
To pay money for them is only for the people that really "badly" want to collect them, anybody else could not care less.
Can’t believe people want unplayable cards reprinted for the masses that can only be played on kitchen top tables. There’s lots they can print for a wide variety of players in the limited avenues they have in releasing playable stuff than waste any of those spots on stuff like this.

I forgot mine but the reaper king and sliver overlord was right there on TCGplayer (this art) not the obnoxious price of regular version foils

I saw one with domri in kaleidoscope killers
As I keep saying, liliana will probably not be included due to the higher value compared to the other walkers.

The beef here is this is a premium product and such errors should be non-existent. I can't find the original source (reddit I believe) so I don't know if they're just isolated cases or it's more extensive.
Good luck to those who bought theirs. Mine just arrived today.
What are you talking about? Scroll Rack isn't on the Reserved List.
And that last sentence makes no sense, are you saying that Wizards is somehow greedy for printing Heroes of the Realm cards that are only being distributed (not sold) to Hasbro employees?
And as I told you in the other thread, the value of alt art Liliana comes from the fact that Amano's name is on it. If they put stained glass Liliana in this product at roughly the same rate as other mythic walkers, then its markup wouldn't be massively inflated.

The "Hero" cards are basically just proxy cards.
If you want them, simply use your printer and make you some, they are not legal anyway, and if you just want to play them casually, who cares where you got them from.
To pay money for them is only for the people that really "badly" want to collect them, anybody else could not care less.
