I missed the part with Flash, I was just disappointed with the "your opponent controls" part.
I guess it's OK as a defensive combat trick or to get a Planeswalker off the board but not much else. I would happily pay an extra or all blue if I could target any nonland permanent OR target my opponents lands as well.
Well, it does say petty theft. So she feels bad and gives it back to its owner!
Also, with Adventure in this set, I understand they needed the opponents-only clause. Otherwise you could bounce your own creatures and Adventure them again. Without the opponents-only clause, Realm-Cloaked Giant and Brazen Borrower would probably be really good friends.
Bouncing lands for 1U a la Boomerang and Eye of Nowhere is horribly unbalanced. And then you get a 3/1 evasive beater after stopping your opponent's T2 tempo? Unless black got Sinkhole again, I can't imagine they'd allow a 2 mana land bounce in standard any time soon.
The reason for "Why is this Mythic" is to put some final nails in MaRo's exhausted credibility.
This is an awesome tournament staple card. Not flashy. Efficient. Necessary. 4-of. And Mythic. Exactly what MaRo said Mythics wouldn't be back when they were invented.
He didn’t say that Mythic can’t be that. He said it wouldn’t be the only place for it. You should actually cite where he says otherwise so you can double check his wording.
Oh look. Someone wants to have the Baneslayer Angel argument over again, ten years later over a Boomerang spell. How cute.
How are cards split between rare and mythic rare? Or more to the point, what kind of cards are going to become mythic rares? We want the flavor of mythic rare to be something that feels very special and unique. Generally speaking we expect that to mean cards like Planeswalkers, most legends, and epic-feeling creatures and spells. They will not just be a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards.
We've also decided that there are certain things we specifically do not want to be mythic rares. The largest category is utility cards, what I'll define as cards that fill a universal function. Some examples of this category would be cycles of dual lands and cards like Mutavault or Char.
Of course MaRo left himself some wiggle room. That's what he does. But this Boomerang+flash flier is certainly not "very special and unique". It is not a planeswalker, a legend, or an epic-feeling creature or spell. It is exactly one of this sets most powerful tournament cards, several others of which are also mythic.
Its a "chase Mythic", plain and simple. You can disagree of course, that's fine. But don't demand that I link for you (which...I did) one of the most referenced MTG posts in a decade because you want to act contrarian.

I think the flavor is supposed to be, the fairy steals something, the thing is stolen and goes away (is bounced). But the fairy isn't particularly interested in keeping the stolen thing, she pawns it off. The owner can get it back by paying its mana cost again to the pawn shop.
Similar flavor is sometimes used with discard effects. The flavor of theft need not always be totally literal in terms of actual in game effect.

“They will not just be a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards.”
And right there proves you wrong. It doesn’t say “it will not ever be a tournament-level card”, what it says is it won’t be the most powerful cards in the set. So unless you’re arguing that every mythic rare is tournament level and no other rarity has them you’re wrong, plain and simple. That’s why I asked you to quote it, so I could point out the specific context in which you were. I’m sure Maro has commented on this in other places and the wording is different but still the same point. People just love to read what they want, even if it’s not what he said.

Cant bounce lands. Re-evaluation needed
