That equipment is nice! A nice way to repeatedly get food and give a small bonus when blocked. Though the flavor (pun intended) is a little unsettling that it turns any thing it hits into food for your army O_o

lifegain wise it is super slow but it does feed into food strats as well. Not sure how good that'll end up being but it is something.

I'll be honest I'm rapidly beoming not a fan of having some requisite number of colored artifacts in every single set now. It feels completely unnecessary on this equipment for example. Making this card artifact and black just feels like an answer seeking a question to me.
I just dont find food tokens interesting or innovative, as a result i dont find these cards interesting or innovative. To me they feel forced. A mediocre means to support a mediocre mechanic
I'm more and more surprised that WotC is going full animal abuse with the implementation (and depiction!) of the Food mechanic when they are so desperately trying to be "woke" in the diversity department...

I'm not sure how you define "abuse", but to me this shows a pig that was skewered, cooked, and produced a Food token. Happens in real life, too. In my opinion, Bake Into a Pie seems more an abusive, darker depiction than we have with Giant's Skewer.
About this card though, I think the flavor is off. This is more like a giant's toothpick, assuming that's a normal-sized boar in combination with the tiny casting cost and tiny stats. When I think of a giant-sized weapon, I think of Colossus Hammer.
That equipment is fun, though rather useless against a control deck with few to no creature.
Well, not really useless. You're beating them in the face with a +2 clock and they're not blocking. So you don't get a food token to gain life off of versus their creature light strategy... but it still sounds like you're winning.
It's true that it doesn't help generate food tokens for other purposes, but the equip costs are at a decent rate. But yeah. Probably not worth the slot in constructed.

1) Good catch on the flavor being off. Sadly, that is an increasingly common thing in MtG (Wolfrider's Saddle)...
2) Yes, it is a thing that happens in real life. As are fit, female adult humans in revealing clothes. People (in general) are voicing more and more concerns about both. WotC seems (especially in the past five years or so) to be taking into account one part of those concerns while completely ignoring the other. I would like to know if there is some research/fan letters/movements among (current or potential) tcg customers that demand more chubby, flat-chested women and people with undiscernible gender (which is all perfectly fine), while apparently there are not enough people who are put off by our "normal" treatment of animals that WotC/Hasbro is interested in taking their money too...

How did the giant get that spear tip through the boar without wrecking it’s body?
Also the Skewer is the slowest, resource draining, fixed gain, creature limited form of lifelink I have ever seen.

Shaft through the mouth, but it looks like it has been trussed up so you could wrap it around the spear as well.
