When was the last time we had a non-symmetric expansion symbol? I guess technically Amonkhet's isn't perfectly symmetrical, but it's honestly been half a decade since the last non-symmetric icon. (Fate Reforged, 2015)
I want Return to Theros to feature WB Gideon and Elspeth having a tragic zombie love story.
Ikoria will really have to work to make me impressed, sounds like a total Timmy set of just "ramp into huge creatures and then smash them together".
The interlocked core set symbol is interesting, although I can't tell if it's actually going to be used beyond the announcement. I kinda hope it will be but I'm not holding my breath.
Zendikar Rising? No thanks. I'm done with that place - I don't like Allies, Awaken, or Eldrazi, and not even the prospect of potentially reprinted man-lands can sway me.
I’m all for a return to Zendikar, one that focuses on the Adventure-y Indiana Jones aspects of the first block. I just hope they have a story worth telling there with the Eldrazi now gone.
The only other time I want to see the Eldrazi is when they show us a plane that has so drastically gone bad that it threatens the multiverse and a whole plane renewal/reset is required, so they release Emrakul to maybe save the multiverse.
On that note, I’d be totally down to see an Eldrazi vs New Phyrexia set.
Also the whole “build you own monster” mechanic sounds a lot like Meld. Perhaps even a version of Meld with more than just two cards.
****'s sake, Zendikar again? When are we going to see New Phyrexia?
My thought wxactly. Karn picked up the Cylex on Dominaria to blow up Mirrodin/New PHyrexia for good. I wanna see that.
My guess is this is on purpose. If the Phyrexians end up the next big bad again--which certainly isn't outside the realms of possibility and are a beloved enemy to boot--they'll likely slow roll revelations of the Phyrexians once again spreading across the multiverse. Probably more sneakily this time, especially if they have the help of Tezzeret and have modern planar portal tech to mess with (since they know about planar portal tech, and would be deeply invested in learning how to do it with the multiverse's new rules).
Then, Karn end up doing his thing with the Cylex, and possibly learns that hey, destroying New Phyrexia not only isn't going to do what he thinks, but might end up making things worse?
Insert more story and drama to build to resolution involving the Phyrexians that doesn't revolve around nuking an entire plane all over again.

Yes I think they fixed meld for the kaiju set
Also it could be in a way bring “HOST AND AUGMENT” to black border
One thing to note about the Eldrazi is that they’ve been marketing failures in each iteration they’ve existed. They essentially ruined Zendikar 1 drafting (which is a pretty big deal because drafting moves a lot more packs than just straight selling alone);
I'm not sure what you're saying, here. ROE was drafted as a standalone (ROE-ROE-ROE) set. You wanted three more months of ZEN-ZEN-WWK? You wanted a different third set for a ZEN-WWK-XXX draft? I just don't see how ROE draft impacts Zendikar draft at all.
ROE wasn't an unmitigated success, but it proved that battlecruiser Magic worked, and battlecruiser was the freshest thing to come along in Magic since the 90s. But they got a little pushback from new players who didn't get it, got spooked, and decided to serve up a steaming hot turd sandwich with BFZ/OGW. The whole Eldrazi thing is irrevocably tainted because of it, but it didn't start off that way. You can't blame ROE for this.
Anyone notice that they didn't mention any supplemental products in addition to this? Usually we get at least one in the summer in and around the Core Set. Unless that's in a separate announcement near the end of the year.

HR Analyst. Gamer. Activist | Fearless, and forthright | Aggro-control is a mindset. Elspeth and Jhoira rock my world.
Theros 2- Pretty much confirms Elspeth returns, I'm guessing started by Gatewatch going to bury Gideon. Eldraine is comfired to not have any white planeswalkers so this might be how we get Elspeth and Ajani both in the set.
Ikoria- Ooh sounds fun. The green mage in me want to see all the timmy and johnny monsters. Hopefully more dinosaurs too.
Core 2020- This sounds good, Teferi history isn't the most well know by newer players (including me) so if they do an origins kinda deal with him it would be good to catch people up. I'm gonna guess flip Teferi since the 3 cards cycle this last set wouldn't work as well for Teferi.
Zendikar 3- Ehhhhh. Never liked Zendikar much with Eldrazi without Eldrazi ect. Only think I like are the element-pals lands.
Possible return walkers; Theros- Ajani, Elspeth, Ikoria- Kiora (I honesty though it was a set named after her at first), M20- Mono blue transform Teferi, mono green Garruk, Zendikar- Nissa, Wrenn?.
Honestly I thought we'd be getting more of the Eldraine line as the Wiki hinted it's part of a new longer story arc post-Gatewatch.
No creative has said the gatewatch are here to stay (hence why they added in new member Kaya in War). Eldraine just was the start of a new arc and we have a 4 walkers now who's stories now will likely link up with the gatewatch.

Not to be a bum, but if they are going to do a transform Teferi he better be blue white. It bugs me that some of the planeswalker commanders can't play other versions of themselves like Teferi Temporal Archamage, Nissa, Nahiri, Daretti, and most likely an Ob Nixilis in the future lol. Unless you mean like a reverse sparker where they are a planeswalker that turns into a creature.

If it's a Japanese Kaiju and Sentai set, Ikoria is a pretty smart release time. It will be out around the same time as Godzilla Vs Kong. I don't know how many literal Mecha you will get, I guess there is always artifact creatures, but there is living statue like creatures like Daimajin.
Return to Theros is an obvious choice. Apparently there will be more of an insight into the underworld (which totally has nothing to do with Elspeth I'm sure), which makes sense with the 'Beyond Death' title. I wonder if that will be a major part of the mechanics as well.
Ikoria sounds promising, but of course we'll have to wait to really have any idea. Apparently it's going to the most ambitious design of the bunch, which is exciting for me as I usually prefer more ambitious designs.
Zendikar part 3 is questionable, but it is a while away still, and I'm glad they are coming back to basically redo the failure of BFZ. If they didn't learn their lesson from that one, I don't know what they're going to do.
Return to Theros is nice. We got many hints, so its no surprise. I wonder what different things they can do with it.
Monster World is not my thing but I will welcome the set if they can keep the visuals from going stale.
Core 2021 is my favorite if its a Mirage throwback.
Zendikar 3 could be cool. ZEN is a great, great set and it has plenty more to give. I think BFZ block beign a failure is reason to be optimistic. They know they screwed up and are coming back to fix the mess.

My Enchantment EDH deck is going to love the new Theros set.
I’m concerned that Ikoria is just going to be an underpowered spectacle, all style no substance.
A Teferi-centric core set sounds great, so long as it’s got a ton of Mirage flavor. Mirage is nostalgic for me because that was the first set I bought products from rather than just borrowing cards from my brother and cousins.
Another return to Zendikar sounds iffy. They REALLY dropped the ball last time and I don’t think many people have forgotten that. I don’t have a lot of faith in them salvaging that plane and aside from them reprinting the enemy fetchlands I don’t think people will be excited to take another gamble with Zendikar.
Is it only me who´s a bit bored by not staying at one of these planes for longer? I like when there´s continuity both in gameplay and story.
I liked the Theroes storyline a lot but only staying there for 1 set now, is too bad
I think there still will be that continuity. They've talked about how they want each set to play well with its neighbors - they will overlap in standard, of course. And the point of making the Gatewatch planeswalkers (and not just legends) was so that they could travel between worlds. I think the pedal will be eased up considerably now that the war of the spark arc is concluded, but the gatewatch should still get peppered in and/or other planeswalkers will be involved so that there are characters traveling between worlds and connecting stories.
Can someone explain me the current block/set system?!
There is no consistently defined "block" as it was before.
Blocks are designated as WotC now sees fit depending on what they want to do. So a block can consist of just one set or three sets or more. What this means is that WotC is free to do sets that don't have enough interest or enough bulk to fill out to two or three sets and they can do sets that have a ton of interest and enough cards to make them as large as they desire.
In theory, this makes it more likely that we'll see mechanics that don't get a lot of love, like Snow. Or we'll see more far out themes like Wild West.
The last official block was Ixalan and the last unofficial block is Guilds of Ravnica.
Ikoria being the new Japanese set would be a huge disappointment for me, so I'm hoping it's more along the lines of Kaladesh was for Indian things (not the focus but more fluff at best). But I've kind of been expecting it to show up and be not so great eventually.
Theros 2- Pretty much confirms Elspeth returns, I'm guessing started by Gatewatch going to bury Gideon. Eldraine is comfired to not have any white planeswalkers so this might be how we get Elspeth and Ajani both in the set.

I think that's very reasonable lol. I think they need to make more flip walkers they could do a cycle where they are mono colored on one side and hybrid on the other.

They made it sound very much like it was a kaiju world. Moreover, Mark Rosewater said on the stream that you get to "build your own monsters". So I'm guessing it's some sort of put out a kaiju that's pretty basic and hard to kill, then throw more and more things on it to make it something unique to your deck and/or this particular game.
Betting on Level Up 4.0, a terrible mechanic he can't let go off.
