So already in this set we have an Egg that isn't an Egg, and now that they've made Noble a creature type, we may also have existing Nobles that aren't Nobles. Unless they have another mass subtype errata planned.
After the whole errata to get rid of the Lord creature type, it's dumb that they're bringing in Noble.
After the whole errata to get rid of the Lord creature type, it's dumb that they're bringing in Noble.
Why is that? Based on the official multi-layered reasoning to get rid of the "lord" creature type, of course (which you can find here, under July 17, 2007. ). Why is "noble" dumb when it follows none of the multiple reasons "lord" was removed to begin with?
I just love this card, a green mana accelerator that gets outclassed by a lowly common at its main intended function...:rolleyes:not a fan of the whole Food thing either, feels like a powered-down version of the Clue mechanic, lifegain instead of cards is weaker in Constructed and sounds like it can get out of hand and bog down Limited games in a horrible way, I hope recursive Food generators have been properly balanced for Draft.

I would have liked for the different gendered types of royalty to get their own subtypes, considering they still use terms like "King" and "Queen" in card names, but I expected that they'd go the gender-neutral route. Only, instead of Royal we got Noble, which is technically an incorrect term for royalty as nobility is a class below royalty in the traditional peerage hierarchy, but it conveys the concept of "high born" well enough, I suppose.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

It's about as correct as calling Giant Solifuge an Insect, or calling pterosaurs Dinosaurs, I guess.
Deathrite Shaman is the only 1-drop creature in Magic's history that can ramp you and gain you life and it is banned in Modern and Legacy. DRS isn't even self-fueling. I don't feel crazy for thinking this might end up as the most important card in the set.

DRS Ramps by taking advantage of the most integral part of any competitive deck, on both sides of the table. This isn’t even in the same zip code as DRS. And, you should feel very crazy.

Nope. I think many people are woefully underestimating this card.
Very often, a mana-ramp creature is used once, maybe twice, then it's done all it's likely to do that game. This card mana ramps in any color, flies, and has a 2-toughness butt. Then for the rest of the game, if left unchecked, generates lifegain or feeds Food tokens to other effects. If the card never does anything but let you ramp to three mana on turn two, or ramp to four mana on turn three, gain 3 life, it's likely still been a strong play. Worth its weight in gold, so to speak.
But no, I don't think you're crazy at all. I think far too many people are dismissing this card way, way too swiftly.

... and this card ramps by creating a token with a very RELEVANT type. A rainbow mana dork that brings an artifact to the table, makes more artifacts, and provides life gain against aggro strats sounds fantastic to me. Not to mention that even if you bolt the bird, the egg hangs around for fun with urza, engineer, opal, and whir. I honestly expect this card to be heavily played in standard, and break into modern.

I think too many people in this thread are underestimating exactly how big a deal that extra point of toughness is, especially in modern. Modern has had a huge increase in ping cards in just the past year between Arclight Phoenix making Gut Shot more relevant, Lava Dart's reprint, and, of course, Wrenn and Six. Modern has its fair share of 1/X fliers, as well. In that environment, the goose's body alone increases its relevance. The lifegain is delicious anti-burn gravy.

Not a chance. This is way too slow. Standard, obviously. But eternal formats? Give me a break lol. DRS wasn’t just good because it gained you life and ramped. It had relevant creature typing, was splashable to the point that every deck played it, gained life, dealt non-combat life loss, and most importantly, hated on GY’s. You weren’t supporting DRS. You have to support the golden goose.

Goose is self supporting.
Besides the first food, the self-support is woefully slow. The question is whether that first food and a flying butt is enough to make a splash outside standard.

I agree, to a point. There are times where I have open mana during my opponent's turn, and blocking and creating a Food, isn't the worst thing in the world. Besides knowing what else we can use Food for, I can use it for anything looking to count artifacts. Karn, Scion of Urza.

Lol. Ok pal. Spending 2 mana to create one isn’t exactly “self supporting”.

How often are you blocking something with power 2 or less with that mana open? Not often enough to make it worth it at all. If there is enough food support, sure, maybe it has a shell(lol) built for it. But, again, to fuel this card you are paying 2 mana per turn to create one. That is certainly not modern/eternal playable.
I like this “Thraben Eggspector” and will fit perfectly with Oko in my artifact cube. So now blue/green will have a Food and Clue subtheme
