Anyways, im gonna bow out now bc its very clear that you cant say anything at all that can perceived to be against a minority class here or its taken as if you are a hobophobe, racist, sexist etc. no matter how much reason you have.
Ah, so you have reasons to be prejudiced. Wonderful.
BTW, you’re not as smart as you think you are. All bigots are inherently ignorant.
Did someone reopen the Rakish Heir thread? Seriously, WOTC incorporates an art showing a male chest and all the insecure guys crawl out from under their rocks.
I guarantee i am smarter than you. You fail to see that when wotc or whatever company makes a gay character for the sake of diversity it would more than likely be a rushed, forced narrative instead Of a well developed character that happens to be gay. This is the same situation that star wars has found itself in but with a different set of people.
When you make anything with the intentions of swaying the opinions of people instead of with the intentions of producing high quality content you will see a noticeable decline in over all quality. Its a simple fact. And is what many other games and media are suffering from at this time.
They make a character gay and say oh look we have a gay character look at us. When instead they could have taken a ral zarek route and made a good well developed character who isnt defined by their sexuality nor is the token gay for the sake of diversity. That is the whole ordeal. You are blind to this and will go any which way virtue is signaled. But you simply dont see the bigger picture. You dont see tht wotc filling some type of imaginary quota will affect other aspects of the game and takes their resources which could be placed developing the game instead of this quota filling mission.
And you are a huge hypocrite for criticizing me because you think im doing the very thing you are right now, that is judging other for a different opinion or life style. Which is literally not at all what I am doing.
Nothing says I am winning an argument more than a declaratory statement that "I guarantee I am smarter than you." Multiple people over multiple pages of this thread have gone to painstaking length to show you the logical fallacies and bigotry in what you have said. You said you were bowing out, by all means make good on that and spare yourself further embarrassment. As for your bit about hypocrisy when it comes to calling out bigotry I leave you with this James Baldwin quote.
"We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist."
Multiple people who have failed to answer any of my question, failed to read what ive said, selected bits and pieces and reinterpreted my words.
Ill leave you with this. If you think that wotc and magic doesnt suffer from this mission of diversity over everything then good for you. Stay blind. Look to other media to see the damage this ideology does. Ill point you to star wars as a prime example. And now the mcu, oceans eleven, ghost busters, and the list goes on and on.
This game is great and I dont want the focus to be inclusion. I would rather then focus be quality first with the inclusion mixed in. I would rather they make a badass character that happens to be gay, instead of a gay character that is the gay character and everything else second.
Lastly you saying that thing about insecure men is pretty oppressive of men. Are they not allowed to feel self conscious? Are women the only ones who deserve the protection from seeing ideal unobtainable bodies?
Youre too blind to get any of that so fine.
Youre not oppressed by anything i said so dont act like you are. In fact youre likely not oppressed at all.
Argument won!! Tim goes crying to his mom because he's not as smart as you.
Can we go back to speculating on colors? I miss when somebody said he might be purple 'cause he had purple vines.
Remember when nobody was upset about Succumb to Temptation (the single most suggestive and homo-erotic image that was ever on a magic card)? That was nice. Let's go back to that.
People say: we don’t like half naked guys to look like models in fantasy settings and in mtg. Can’t men like woman be covered and have a realistic body type.
What some people read: we don’t want sexy men because there is no more sexy woman.
First don’t over think things. It is not because you like sexy shirtless and 4 pack chest in art that all other mtg players like that to.
Seccond: for a men to be considered sexy he don’t need to be shirt-less as many of you proved when they spoiled Yawgmoth or Jodah.
Is it difficult to not ofend a part of the majority of men that don’t like to see men abs in the game? Is it difficult to respect people that don’t have the same body type and go into their face that their body don’t fit into the atractive spectrum?
In gaming and nerd culture we had such good record on those things but now some people act as the problem is only related to female body types and not to all genders.
Shirt less model body man are the same as red sonja in terms of sexualized characters. It is not because some men walk shirt less in real life that it is ok to have no consideration for the large player base that don’t fit in those body types. Using the “but men walk shirt less in the streets” argument is the same as “woman walk with bikini and top less on the streets soo it should be ok to have them with bikini and top less in mtg art”
It is aceptable in a desert or really hot-warm world to men and woman to be shirtless (that’s why you don’t see people complaining about the art of Amonkhet or Ixalan when men are shirtless, because it makes sense)(if you are gonna say that eldraine is a tropical plane, F off, they are clearly going for a British kind of world, and if oko is on a forest then it is about 5-7*Celsius coulder than in the city and there is no shirtless people in the city, on contrary people in eldraine art are prety heavy on clothes indicating that the plane is not hot)
I d hope this community to not be as one sided about men always getting the short end of everything. If men say they think it is unesessary what they call oversexualization of the male body on characters people should try to listen instead of calling those “insecure” or other names.
You keep presenting quality and diversity as though they are an either/or choice. This says a lot about how you see diverse communities.
You say the characters represented in the game can "happen to be gay", but don't make them so overtly gay as it offends my fragile sensibilities.
So, yes. You do speak in a way that means to further the oppression of my community (the LGBTQ community) and no, I do not hope to see you around.
@Leslak: I just want to add that my comment about insecure men was not aimed at those whose quibble is genuinely with the hypersexualization of men and its potential impact on their body image, but also let's not let that be used as a scapegoat for the expression of homophobia.

I was going to say this myself. Quality and diversity are not mutually exclusive, and pretending they are is just another ineffective way of masking his obvious homophobia.
“Get your icky gaybois out of my fantasy card game, they’re ruining the hetero narrative. I totally don’t hate the gays, though.”
I never said that it suffers in quality because its diverse. I said it suffers in quality because the focus is primarily on increasing diversity and everything else is second.
Again this is proof of how you fail to understand what ive said and only interpret what you want and how you want. Youre too emotional and Ive had enough of arguing with you and this method you've chosen of reinterpreting what ive said and my argument.

Been using the internet since 1996, and here's one of the mainstays: Some dude who is called out for his lack of logic by goddamn near everybody in a thread, yet insists that people just aren't interpreting his words right.
There was a topless male. You were triggered. The following five thread pages were just filler.
Everybody? Because there is another user up top saying the same ***** as me. Explain that one? Not to mention the bulk of this conversation was started by another user who said something that was more extreme than what ive said.
So im not the only one who has the sentiments and understands what im saying.
could it be this community is filled with the same mindset people who are too emotional and too triggered by anybody who even hints at anything that is in any way against a gay character..?
He's really not saying exactly what you are saying at all and there are definitely problematic parts to what he has said as well, but nothing nearly as egregious as what you continue to bore us with. But by all means continue to deflect, project, and gaslight to your heart's content. I've got more important things to do today than continue to entertain it.

Why bother if the character is gay or not? Sure the theme of his spark getting ignated sugests realworld themes of lgbt ism. But realy, unless they go stating hin going out with every man he sees (in a comic book would not be a issue to have this from times to times). But in the main story I would except thing like ral and tomik where the relationship actually means something to the story (or we hoped)(for more)(it would be good for a secrecy about the relationship to protect their ranks (not be as easy targetable) and in the war the relationship the why ral would stay in the plane).
Like, there is chance for good story development if oko is gay. He could go out in a feudal plane, shapeshift into woman and other man to have relationship with feudal lords and try to take control over the plane this way.(a good villain imo could do this).
Imo characters should have their sexual preferences shown in the story when it is relevant. If they are not on a ongoing storyline then casual sex should not be a highlight of a character.
Can we accept, for a moment, that men and women are fundamentally different, with no inherent positive or negative qualities ascribed to those differences? What follows from that logic is that no equal treatment will ever be equitable; we must be treated differently according to our physiological needs in order to balance our collective lives, socially and professionally, with any modicum of fairness or justice.
I will backpedal for a moment and acknowledge that there is, or may be, a cultural problem with male bodily self-image. What I will not do is admit that a privileged class (in this case, males) suffers equally compared to the social norms we have imposed upon women, not generally in western culture and certainly not in gaming / nerd culture. To assume that there should be any sense of parity in how we treat this subject is ridiculous, and only serves to reinforce our subconscious need to subordinate the female half of our species. “If we can’t do it, they can’t do it either” is not a justifiable reason, in this case, to blindly avoid diversity.
I have a Magic collection easily worth thousands of dollars, and a young daughter who stands to inherit it someday. Can anybody seriously argue that the dangers to her self-image are somehow on par with, or lower than, any given young boy whose first foray into fantasy card games is Oko? Consider for a moment the collective social forces that tell women their only value is how they look, and our subsequent need to shelter the women we love from generations of relegation to second-class citizenship. How can anyone reasonably use that in defense of young men against shirtless male figures, as if the dangers were inherently equal? They are not.
If there is any kind of legitimate problem, it is okay to respond to it, but our responses must be measured and reasonable. To pretend as though the problems men and women in our society face are equal, and thus our solutions to them must also be equal, is neither measured nor reasonable.
I d hope this community to not be as one sided about men always getting the short end of everything.
If you truly believe men have had it worse than any other group of people then I implore you to do some research into civil rights.
There are far worse things in this world than seeing a sexy shirtless man with a six pack. But I've wasted enough time on the topic.
Glad we all were born in a time when civil rights grants by law the same rights to every body, right? (Unless you are like 60 years old)

You try to dismantle the rightful claim for less sexualized man in magic art (with meaningless nudity and body exposure) soo I know you are just another troll or part of the problem.

See you around.
No one has misinterpreted you, nearly all the users have included your quotes when responding and used sound logic against yours. And on that note, your logic does seem flawed bc you go strictly by the definition of things to “technically” justify yourself. Your examples for hate speech and phobic language are telling bc as long as you don’t fit the definition, you feel you’ve done no wrong. Like when you defended the homophobic post, the user didn’t exactly call for the death of a real lgbtq+ person, so obviously [sarcastic on my part] they don’t have negative feels against that community. That’s still problematic bc, as I and other users have pointed out, feeling that way against a fictional person usually means they *do feel that way about real ppl. Trying to side step things by saying “well I/it don’t fit the definition” is a slippery slope, to use your words, bc you can then ignore or condone things that have more nuance, like homophobia and racism. And your defense concerning the MPL being headed by a trans person still sounds transphobic bc you just reiterated that the cis white guys you liked weren’t the face. You said nothing of substance as to why having a trans person being the face is bad. You could have mentioned skill sets or personality, but no, you left it at their being trans as the reason, so that’s why I said it’s problematic at best and transphobic at worst.
I won’t comment much on your assertion that diversity killed or was harmful to the media franchises you listed, bc the only ppl ticked off were cis white men. Women and PoC can finally feel apart of Star Wars bc it’s not just Leia, Padme, Mace, and Lando for representation. And the all women hero scene in Endgame was on point lol.
And nothing about an inclusive or diverse character has been shown to hurt the Magic story or design so far. If anything, it allows more players to identify and bond more with the game. I was so happy when Kynaios and Tiro came out that they were my first non-black EDH deck I made.
And yes, men can and do have body image issues. Being gay, I def know the pressures within the community to have a sculpted body to even get noticed and accepted. So your righteous indignation comes off a bit shallow, just more “but what about X” than an actual concern about how male players perceive their bodies against Magic art. You keep asking for an answer to this, but only the answer it seems you wanna hear. One thing we can do, if you’re truly concerned, is send our concerns to Wizards and Creative to let them know. And it will take time, they won’t have all the corrections in the next set.
Lets remember that 4 years ago it was ok to make comic book covers showing unrealistic poses on female super hero. Some people think it is ok but we now agree that those kind of oversexualized representation can indeed have a impact on lower self-esteem and self-image of young girls.
But you know that body shame is one of the causes of low self esteem on males (young and old) ? You are ignorant to that or just trying to apear as ignorant? If you realy care about children self-image then don’t you think that the sell point of art should be style and not body nudity?
Why do men/boys should be ignored in this kind of issues? Why can’t we try and ask for realism in the way characters dress up in fantasy gamming? Would it be ok if Rowan was shirtless with a bras covering her bust? This is a exemple of men getting the lower end. There is no reason for oko to be shirtless when every other men and woman in eldraine soo far have a lot of clothes (and when the plane looks to be mostly likely a could place).
It's really hard for me to discern the arguments Leslak is making for lack of syntax/grammar--partly why I haven't been addressing his posts as well. I don't mean any disrespect by that, just that I can't rebut someone when I don't have confidence that I am understanding their points clearly to begin with.
Are you seriously suggesting that everyone receives equal treatment just because the law says so, or are you being sarcastic?
I m not saying that. What I m saying is that if someone has its rights violated they are due to seek out justice because they rights are granted by the law(or should be, as people should care for male and female oversexualization on a children card games could cause self esteem problems in boys and girls).
Are you seriously suggesting that everyone receives equal treatment just because the law says so, or are you being sarcastic?
That’s a common tactic these days among the hateful. Say awful things about a group of people that are different, then say you’ve done nothing wrong and aren’t a bigot because the law protects everyone equally. A lot of Trump supporters say Trump isn’t bigoted because the law protects everyone equally. It’s intentionally dishonest, obviously.

I don't mean any disrespect by that, just that I can't rebut someone when I don't have confidence that I am understanding their points clearly to begin with.
I m not a native speaking but a migrant, I try to make my posts clear, sometimes I can’t. Now I m on my cellphone and on the streets soo can’t as easily edit the posts and look out for grammar issues. It would be easy and a nice way to work on the issue if you tried to reply. If there are doubts about what is written I can easily see and try to correct myself while we communicate.
Please help me understand your mind set and why asking for less sexualized representation of male characters is bad or silly.

That should be a good read for some of you:

Are you seriously suggesting that everyone receives equal treatment just because the law says so, or are you being sarcastic?

I m not saying that. What I m saying is that if someone has its rights violated they are due to seek out justice because they rights are granted by the law(or should be, as people should care for male and female oversexualization on a children card games could cause self esteem problems in boys and girls).
