So I'm noticing that chainer acts as a discard outlet and gives haste to anything you reanimate, which is a pretty good deal for a straightforward reanimator deck.
No easy infinite loops with this guy (maybe leaden Myr + ashnod's altar + Necromancy + Altar of the brood?) but a very strong FAIR reanimator commander.
Well I did not expected chainer, although we had 2+ references to him in boosters set.
I hope the next modern horizons pick up some of the commander legendaries for modern, chainer would create some fun decks
I'm so freaking happy they did a new Chainer! He's one of my fav old school characters due to his weapon, his personality, and the whole dementia summoning thing. His older card is fun for a lot of my EDH decks and now I get to brew something new with him! The art is on point too bc he would attach a censer to his chain to obscure visibility in the pit fights. This will be fun!
As for the other cards, the curse looks good and Big Game Hunter is also a nice reprint.

I only play green EDH, but Chainer seems good. Discard outlet and cast something from the yard, with haste, I like for things across the table to stay dead when I kill them.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
B/R have typically been my favorite color combination so I was waiting to see these cards the most. So far seems interesting, I will likely get the chainer if nothing else.

BGH is a pretty old card. If anything white is poaching blacks shtick. No one should ever blink at Black killing a creature. No matter the rest of the text.
Also Chainer seems like a solid way for my Rakdos, Lord of Riots deck to recover from a board wipe and the like.
Everybody is talking about chainer, and i love it too. It's one of those cards that does everything i want in my Gyrus deck. Discard + Reanimate + Haste enabler. But the main reason for me, and one that many seem to miss, is that casting your commander from the command zone also counts as "didn't cast from hand"
BR human tribal sounds kind of random though...tough to say if it's worth doing without looking at the Gatherer.. though there are endless humans in every color it seems....

Lots of brew potential with the new Chainer. RB needed the love its getting in C19 desperately. I've been unsatisfied with almost all the RB commander options since Grusilda, Monster Masher came out (and yes I do have a Grusilda deck that my playgroup is fine with me playing). Since those few years ago, RB has gotten much more variety in directions to brew. Thank goodness
Nope. It just says "a creature", not "creatures." And there's a clause to prevent you from doing it for more creatures assuming you have more cards to discard.
I note the ability does not target, so you can cast the card - assuming it's a creature - you just discarded. It's only selected at resolution.
A Chainer that uses discard is pretty fitting, considering he comes from Odyssey block.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

It's a reprint from Planar Chaos, so what do you expect?
I know! I noticed that cool lore reference as well. And Chainer is such a cool character... very happy he was reworked.
