Thieving Amalgam 5BB
Creature- Ape Snake
At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, manifest the top card of that player's library. (Put it onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)
Whenever a creature you control but don't own dies, its owner loses 2 life and you gain 2 life.

I want whatever the Sultai mage who made this is on
Sweet card, I love this type of effect.
This Commander product is really hitting the mark, powerful abilities without super broken potential, for the most part.

The "Crazy One", playing casual magic and occasionally dipping his toes into regular play since 1994.
Currently focusing on Pre-Modern (Mono-Black Discard Control) and Modern (Azorious Control, Temur Rhinos).
Find me at the Wizard's Tower in Ottawa every second Saturday afternoons.
I particularly like how this interacts with the tutors that go to top of library - Vampiric, Mystical, Worldly, Enlightened, etc. It shuts down the opponent's ability to tutor during other players' turns before their own untap because Thieving Amalgam now steals whatever the looked for. Sure, they can tutor during their upkeep before they draw, but now they have to tap the mana the same turn as they draw the card.
Want some lore on this thing.
Nice that you steal their top of library, can turn it face up or just block/attack with it. Another card that imo should have been in standard at some point.
The creatures size is completely disconnected to the art.
Its just a snake/ape , its WAY too huge as a 6/7 , like many times.
Physical size is not the sole factor in power and toughness. How strong, aggressive, armored, or tough to kill a creature is also affects those numbers. Ad at the end of the day, the mechanics of the game take priority over flavor - I think they wanted to make it hard to kill because it will most certainly be a target.

Well, I'm completely guessing here, but perhaps an Emmara Tandris effect happened. It was originally a 2/2 for 1BB or so, they playtested it and it was way too powerful. So the upped the casting cost mightily, but also adjusted the P/T... Who knows.
Well technically if we are going to get into it, a Baboon is considered an Old World Monkey and not an Ape, even though Apes are technically monkeys, they're different and in a different group.
This one is quite different, considering that lower half of him....

It's like a Verdant Force for morph, double useful if you happen to have the color to turn that creature face up (assuming creature card).

Even if Anaconda's are South American and not from Thailand. This is Tarkir anyway.
Baboonaconda lol
I like this card a lot too. It can put a lot of power on the board if it sticks for long enough.
