Why are people saying Lorwyn? Faeries are all over the multiverse, almost as much as elves and goblins.
I wanna see Kaldheim too, but it's definitely coming. We must only wait.
Seeing the name, I instantly thought it seemed Arthurian.
Actually, a proper high fantasy setting with all the classic European tropes hasn't been done in a while. I can't think of a plane that is just Western European fantasy (though most of them have some noticeable influence from there). Giving it a zoomed in focus to a single kingdom/city/political struggle could help to alleviate some of the generic-ness that comes as baggage with the territory.
Tbh, even though I do concede it's more of a long shot with the art style previewed, I find it funny most folks seem to assume medieval courts and royalty rules out a Viking plane. Nordic history includes at least a millennium of monarchy, and I could easily see a Nordic plane incorporating both vikings and medieval courts, because they're both very strong aspects of Nordic history that would stay within the regional source while providing greater in-plane diversity of setting and social groups.

I think this set will have rectangular shaped cards made of plasticized cardboard, be about 250 in number with commons, uncommons, rares and mythics and be sold in mylar wrappers for about $3.99 each. What do you think?

I agree. I think mixing nobility genres would lead to more creature types and let creative take the story anywhere. The problem with doing a straight Viking/Nordic set is that lots of people would have certain expectations of what should be included etc. As for Snow, it's possible they can insert that theme on any plane if an antagonist caused an endless winter (think Frozen).

Yea, Innistrad felt more Eastern European than Western European I suppose, but, I'd say it at least pretty decently satiated that main category of flavor itch, in that it still felt like a European Dark Ages vibe, since Gothic Horror overlaps pretty far into that category (albeit in an extra-dark/spooky sort of way).
Not to mention, on top of it, it was just an utterly amazing setting/theme, regardless of category. Well, the first Innistrad block was, at least, when it was Gothic Horror rather than semi-Gothic-semi-Eldritch Horror. I definitely think the first Innistrad block had better flavor and artwork and vibes than the 2nd one. (I did like the 2nd batch, too, though. I mean, frankly it's pretty hard to get me to dislike a set taking place on Innistrad, lol.)
Plus, there's also they usually get a decent amount of European Dark Age/Knight-in-Shining-Armor types of stuff mixed in some way or another into quite a lot of MTG sets in general. Like in Dominaria, they mixed quite a bit of that in, since Dominaria is general-MTG-vibe, which has a lot of that in it by default. And in Ravnica, Orzhov can somewhat cover that sort of stuff at least semi decently, and to a lesser degree Dimir, Azorius, Boros, Selesnya, etc.
So, I definitely do think a Kaldheim/Snow/Vikings themed set felt even more overdue than a European/Arthurian-style set, by a decent margin, considering how long it's been since Coldsnap, let alone Ice Age. I'm still "okay" with an Arthurian set. But, Snow/Vikings would've been a triple fist-pump HELL YEAHHHHHH thing, whereas this is more of an "Oh, alright, that's maybe cool depending on stuff I guess" type of a thing, by comparison.
If they had to do both, then I wish they at least would've just done Kaldheim first and then do this one afterwards. (Or better yet, not do this one for a couple more years, and instead go from Kaldheim to Theros-experiencing-Phyrexian-rumblings and then go from that straight to Full Blown Phyrexia ITSELF (w00000000t!!!!). Now THAT would be a fun couple of years, lol. Hell, maybe even have Karn die or semi-die or sacrifice himself or semi-sacrifice himself or something while fighting the Phyrexians, and then... wait for it......... URZA's SPIRIT COMES OUT OF HIS CHEST. OH SNAPPPPPP!!! Maybe his spirit could interlink with Jace or something, so his superior experience/bada**-ness could counterbalance against Jace's weakspots, and on the flip side, Jace's mind sculptor talents would add something on his side of the equation. They would be able to converse and stuff telepathically, or sort of like a Luke/Obi Wan setup, lol. Doooooo it. Do it do it do it. They won't, of course, because I guess it's CHANDRA TIME now or whatever. But, it probably could've been pretty fun if they had decided to do something like that for the ending/aftermath of the presumably-upcoming Phyrexia war.
I hope all clamoring for a visit to a Viking world are prepared for Marvel's Thor: the Set that will result. I am all for it, personally. A new fairytale block is also to my tastes.

I hope you're wrong about that. The Marvel interpretation is fine, but it's a very specific interpretation that leaves a lot out.
I'd be happy if this turned out to be a fairytale block.
MaRo seemed very unfamiliar with the character when talking about him on Drive to Work. Apparently got dumped in at the last second cuz they didn’t have any other mono-B walkers and someone remembered that Sanderson’s book existed.
The name strikes me as very Welsh/Celtic in nature.
I wish it didn't sound so similar to "Eldrazi". That's going to be frustrating for newcomers when they confuse the names at first, and are like "Wait, so they randomly have almost exactly the same name... for literally no reason whatsoever??"
There's trillions upon quadrillions of names they could come up with. But the first 5 letters just haaaaaad to be identical I guess.
I mean do we really want another fairy tale plane...?
...You were just asking for Lorwyn-Shadowmoor but you don't want another fairytale-esque plane?
I mean i would also dislike another Aetherpunk plane with rebels fighting for the right to use aether.
If they alread have a very stablished plane that fits the criteria we expect them to go back or change alot of it to make it worth a new plane for the theme. From what we were told this looks alot with something we could see in Lorwyn-Shadowmoor soo unless they show me very wrong tomorrow i will keep thinking about it. But anyway if they show a really unique plane desing it will not change the assumption i had with this "leak" and how litle information we had. It is too soon to call things up i admit but i ll keep thinking for now that another fae fairytale plane is not needed if they could do it in lorwyn-shadowmoor.

I highly doubt this is just going to be 'Lorwyn-Shadowmoor, except not'. Even if it's a similar style, even somewhat of a replacement, they are going to do some significant number of things differently. After all, what would be the point of making it the same? If they expect to do Lorwyn-Shadowmoor again, making it the same would tread on Lorwyn-Shadowmoor's toes. If they don't expect to do Lorwyn-Shadowmoor again, why would they repeat all the same choices and run into the same problems that lead them not to do Lorwyn-Shadowmoor again?
The name already gives us a hint as to what we can expect that it's different from Lorwyn-Shadowmoor. MaRo has confirmed that the 'Throne of' is definitely intended to hint at the set's themes, and that suggests there will be something more knights and castles about it.

Lorwyn-Shadowmoor =/= fairy tale plane. It had a story book feel and drew from old celtic faerie stories/mythology but thats not fairy tales in the vein of Grimm or Perrault. Lorwyn-Shadowmoor was also more of a mechanical set for tribal and a color matters set, never really went too much into the Celtic stuff.

Lorwyn never felt like a fairytale plane to me. If that was part of the world's design, it didn't come through all that well.
Lorwyn was a folklore plane in the sense that it drew from British/Celtic folklore and mythology, which is ... kind of fairy taley? AFAIK most influential fairy tales today are Grimm or H. C. Andersen which is why Celtic folklore doesn't connect, but to some Brits there is a connection to Lorwyn as a fairy tale plane.
I think its set in an arthurian era but its in a micro scale. Like the world is a castle but since the faeires are so small that its actually like a “world” and the whole set is them maneuvering around the castle while a whole bunch of political and royal shenanigans happen around them as the giants (humans or elves) do their thing.
Kind of like the mice on cinderella, or jack and the bean stalk.

How about Royal or Noble Mana sources/permanents? Much like snow lands and snow permanents.
Purple = royalty or nobility. They won't ever do a 6th color of mana but why not Royal Lands or Royal permanents in the mana cost? Just a guess.
Could also see a return of the Monarch mechanic. You become the monarch. (Or something similar)
