i would love madness to be a Grixis deck. Give us the great Cthulhu as a general. Lords of madness. mindflayers, abberations. Make madness actually feel like madness.
I really don't even think I care about what the themes are all that much - but am quite satisfied we are not getting all tribal decks, there has been *too* much emphasis on tribal in my opinion lately. I think the keyword idea is at least interesting, and will make these decks all feel a bit more unique than what we've seen in the past. I have numerous commander decks and don't think I have any built around a single keyword, so that's kind of neat.
What these decks REALLY need, and what every commander product needs from here on out:
--Every two-or-three color deck includes the guild signets AND/OR talismans (now that we have ten) for each of its color combos. So a Bant deck should get a U/G signet or talisman, U/W, and W/G. Two-color decks should get the signet *and* talisman in their colors.
--Monocolor decks should get the Mirage diamond in its color, and at least one other useful 2-mana fixer (thought vessel ideally, mind stone also acceptable)
--Any 4 or 5 color deck should get at least three signets/talismans, as well as a useful rare 3-mana any color rock (chromatic lantern, coalition relic, or mana geode or darksteel ingot if the deck already has other valuable artifact reprints)
--Similar rules for nonbasics - give two- and three-color decks dual land variants that come into play untapped, and give 4 and 5 color decks reprints of mana confluence and city of brass, to go along with all the weaker taplands the decks always get.
--commander's sphere and command tower in every deck, of course. Even monocolor. Extra command towers are useful for everyone.
There's actually some $ value in many of these cards. And they make all the decks function better. And players with tons of EDH decks can always use more of these, because everything I named is actually good. Give all the decks these, every time, and it would make beginners more competitive *and* make buying the full decks a better proposition for the more seasoned players who are only looking to these for key cards to take and make new decks out of.
While it would be nice, they want to sell many products, so they would never cater to teh new players in this way. The pre-cons are to introduce you, but they want player to buy booster packs and singles. so stores will buy more to supply the demand.
make buying the full decks a better proposition for the more seasoned players who are only looking to these for key cards to take and make new decks out of.
They should do this as some seasoned players will not buy a deck simply due to not having anything they want. They still wont as Commander makes sales regardless. WotC will focus on the sales they make on the main products, such as core sets. While they may not make the sale themselves, they sell to store that need the supply. If they released a set that held NO value for other sets (I mean that is near impossible, but say they do) no one will be asking for the product to cater to their decks. Players will buy sets for standard, but since the release of Modern, standard has become a dying format.
(To the point of my LGS which use to have upwards of 20 players every Friday night just for standard (To the point where they moved to have a larger area for players) will get may one or two people on Friday night, and not for FNM.
I'm really hoping the Morph deck is Sultai colored and not Temur. The more I think about it, the more I feel like Black is a better fit for a morph themed deck as opposed to red. Black interacts better with hidden information / tricks / death shenanigans, where as red seems to be pure aggro, something a Morph deck does not really need.

Hmm, having morphs that don't morph into creatures would also be interesting. Board wipe and then morph those 2/2s into the things they are suppose to be (lands, artifacts, enchantments.)

If it’s on Otaria perhaps. If it’s on Tarkir, Temur has the closest relationship with morph.

Red is the color of luck and shenanigans, it offers plenty of interesting room for morph besides aggro.
I mean, Brawl doesn't seem like a bad idea regardless of execution, right? It's just the execution that ends up souring it in the end.
But also, in the last year, we've had a decent chunk of multicolor legends come out that look decently interesting for Brawl. I mean, all of wedge legends in M20 could be built into commander/brawl decks easily. (Granted, I'd probably only want to play Kykar, Yarok or potentially Omnath out of those, but Kaalia and Kethis still could quite feasibly be built around.)
So like... I guess that comes down to whether or not they build something good out of them and if they're reasonably affordable. My first thought was to do something hilarious with Kykar and Arcane Adaptation, but that card's about to hit the road, so if they put that in a Brawl precon, which would become illegal in a few months' time, that would be very silly and maybe even irresponsible.
wait, are they still trying to make brawl a thing?
If Oathbreaker becomes popular enough, they might start making Oathbreaker decks.
Brawl was announced last year, they could've prepared products at the time to advertise it better, instead they waited for the enthusiasm to decline and suddenly boom, four decks.
Though, if the seven cards proved to be interesting for Eternal formats, perhaps people might buy and try them out, especially if there are new legends to use in EDH.

Oath breaker is not bad, but i would have preferred decks to be 62 cards. (60 plus your PW and iconic spell) (Just because 60 is easier to divide by 3)
Either way i may eventually build my own oath breaker deck. The issue i have with brawl however is the fact that it rotates. Modern is fine as it is only 8th edition onwards. But the first set does not change, Brawl is limited to standard sets only. I have yet to see a single brawl deck show up. Oathbreaker however has gained traction at my store (Not much yet as most still play EDH, but I have seen people come in with a few oathbreaker decks. (And if I had the money I would build a few myself.)
... and why are you mad about this? Also they said they're making 7 new cards specific to the format that come in each deck. Sounds like gravy to me.
Because it taxes already limited resources that they could be investing in formats that people actually give a damn about?
That said I'm not really mad about it. Just a waste, I think.
Arena certainly isn't going to have the card database to support full (French, for a lack of a mode that supports more than 2 players) Commander any time soon, so the reason they chose to implement Brawl probably has to do with it being less resource intensive than its more popular paper equivalents.

I think it's a far better product than most of the products we see come out. I would much rather have 4 new Brawl decks rather than the Intro Decks and Duel Decks (Brawl decks are the best replacement for Duel Decks imo). Especially now that they contain new cards.
Hopefully the populate decks have at least 2 of the token doubling enchantments in them since they're all way over priced
If anything it will most likely provide Parallel lives. People do not want a another G/W deck so i doubt they will do that (Even if populate is a G/W keyword.)
As for brawl, only thing that will get me to buy the decks is if it contains enough card i feel hold value, and hold a brand new PW. I got the global series for the Pws. I bought three of teh four c18 decks (two were for the PWs and a few interesting cards inside)

I'm pretty sure they'd have to include white in a populate themed deck because right now there are only two nonwhite cards with populate and there's only a limited number of new cards

I apologize for my English, it's not my main language.
I think all the discussion about colors might be a waste of time
As we've seen in Modern Horizon and other past products. Reprinting mechanics gives opportunities to move them to other colors. Like Exalted in M13 or miracle in Commander 2018 both moving to black; or dredge moving to red in Modern Horizon.
If anything I feel like we will see these mechanics explore colors outside their traditional homes.

Indeed that’s why I think naya populate is possible
Also flashback and morph are in all 5 colors and have some decent stuff in each color so could happen of atleast one deck being 5 color

We’re not getting bant combo of colors since that’s one of the brawl decks color combos

Madness will probably give a class of cards madness. Like having instant and sorcerers all have madness equal to CMC.
Morph could manifest straight from your hand and include flicker effects to round it out.
Flashback might have triggers for casting cards from the graveyard. Like the flashback archetype from Innistrad drafts.
Those are just a few ways I can see things working.
