I think that's "whenever you activate" and not whenever anybody activates, which is potentially quite important.
Even so, unique effect and the mass +1/+1 counters are just gravy. You could build this deck with just mana dorks and have a built-in finisher by antheming with this ability repeatedly and then alpha striking.
Now it's just a T2 infinite. T0 this, T1 Breeding Pool and Birds of Paradise, T2 Breeding Pool, one of those auras, and you have one spare floating mana to activate the Aura and go infinite.
And lol, it already has its own wincon too, as you use that mana to put a million counters on the birds, and swing.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

Apparently the Urza plan doesn't work though. His ability doesn't meet the Comprehesive Rules' definition of tapping a creature for mana. even if you use his ability to tap a creature to add mana.
"CR 106.12. To “tap [a permanent] for mana” is to activate a mana ability of that permanent that includes the {T} symbol in its activation cost."
Oh wow. Dryad Arbor becomes a fetchable sol land, llanowar elves becomes Fyndhorn Elder, etc , etc. This seems really good in mono green devotion. I love it.

Yeah, I've been talking about Birds of Paradise / Freed from the Real T2-infinite-swing combo here and on reddit. Sure it's a glass cannon but damn it seems tasty.
