I can not conprehend why ya'll think this Kalia is bad. It's a Mantis Rider without haste, but instead draws 1 - 2 cards immediately, which means more gas !

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.

is there an abundance of those creature types that you'd want to be running in any noncommander deck while also supporting 3 color?
...it can also still whiff
...in commander it can REALLY whiff, and kaalia 1 already does it to such great effect that kaalia 2 is outclassed to the point of only being viable in the 99
Man, I’m feeling so fatigued of 5-color legends lately.
I hadn't thought on this until now, but the design of a mono/colorless wubrg legendary feels like it's lost its shine. Hope they give it a rest so it can feel novel again.
Kaalia would have been better in MH1, it'd be so fun with all those Changelings running around. Golos has me very intrigued, a legendary artifact creature with a proper name that doesn't seem to be a mindless automaton or construct? I can't recall anything like that except Karn himself.
Golos seems to be WotC's answer for players demanding a 5c Gates/Lands Matters Commander, I'd say. It'll make a lot of people happy for sure, but honestly I'm not too excited about it.
Kaalia seems easily Constructed playable. In Standard, she curves perfectly with Seraph of the Scales, while Modern brews will definitely love to Resto her up for more digging. Not as relevant in Commander, and Niv-Mizzet Reborn really stole her thunder here, but even then she's still very much playable.
Overgrowth Elemental seems fantastic for Elemental Tribal. Relevant body, pumps their 2 mana GR Lord, then when it dies, it pumps itself.
Loyal Pegasus is back, thankfully as an Uncommon once again. A nightmare in Limited, probably not good enough for Constructed but who knows, stranger things have happened.
Enjoy that new Kaalia, obviously not as powerful, as the old one, but it supports the old one nicely...I can see her working in commander as it might make your opponent regret taking her out if she's just going to come back and draw you more creatures...they work nicely together, but that's about it...could also work in a tribal for demon, dragon, or angel, but not quite as well...have already been trying to figure a deck with her and Niv-Mizzet Reborn, just haven't come up with a real strategy yet.
IIUC, people wanted something as strong as kaalia of the vast in standard?
I'm not even sure you prefer to have the one that requires you to already have something in hand, needs to attack and dies to a whiff as the commander instead of the one that digs. I assume people fill their kaalia deck with black tutors?
I find Golos crazy. You only need to blink him a few times to ramp and fix your mana. 3 free cards every turn is a big pay out. It doesn't even have the sorcery-speed restriction on its ability. If you build your deck with blink effects, its ability can even protect it from removal.
(U/B) is :symbu: or :symub: and the same is true for the other 9 hybrid symbols with their two colors in for the last 2 leters of the code. ((2/B) and co are :sym2b:)
Alternatively {UB} or {2B} in [mana] tags are (U/B) or (2/B) T is :symtap: and T will give T in [mana] tags
New Kaalia might be weaker in Commander, but she's much better than the old one in the context of this Standard. Old Kaalia is a 4-CMC 2/2, does not have the benefit of Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots, dies to Shock, and as far as I know there's no game-ending things to put out like Master of Cruelties. Not to mention that for one more mana, you basically get a 6/6 trampling, recursive Kaalia with no typing restriction in Ilharg, the Raze-Boar.
New Kaalia gives you immediate value on a perfectly acceptable body for the cost. There are a bunch of aggressively costed Angel/Dragon/Demon threats in Standard right now. Certainly seems like this a potential competitive build-around considering it appears that WotC might be pushing Angels in Core 2020.
I can not conprehend why ya'll think this Kalia is bad. It's a Mantis Rider without haste, but instead draws 1 - 2 cards immediately, which means more gas !
Because it’s a Mantis Rider without haste and the cards you draw come from 3 of the most bloated tribes in the game. If it just said “draw a card” it’d be so much better.
New Kaalia might be weaker in Commander, but she's much better than the old one in the context of this Standard.
Well let's hope that she'll get played in standard then, otherwise she'll be just a waste of a legendary slot like some of the dragon's maze champions were

Would be fun in Tron to drop this guy, tutor up Cascading Cataracts with him to set up a huge turn to play something big for free the next turn. Fun, albeit probably not competitive.

In Standard, yes. People have been trying to figure out optimal Angel brews for a while now, and there are several serviceable Demons and Dragons available in color. You don't need many for Kaalia to be good.
I'm sure there's more but really, you take the best of these and you have plenty of hits in a 60 card deck. Regarding whiffing--sure, but again, if you build correctly you should hit most of the time. I'm not saying Kaalia will be the next Standard staple, but it's too early to say she's not going to be good. In Commander, I generally agree that she's way worse than Kaalia of the Vast, but only because of the context of the format.

It's crappy in commander as a commander. Especially when compared to old Kaalia. I guess overall power level is fine for 1vs1 20 lifes competitive magic.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Just saw that Golos says play and not cast. That definitely makes him better. Yeah, hitting a land with him would not be ideal, but it helps ensure you don't miss a land drop with him out.

Is it me or does feel like I’m seeing previews for Commander 2019 and not coreset 2020? We are getting so many legendary creatures and stuff to go with it. I mean 5 wedges with a theme to each and a legendary for each wedge makes this feel like the first of two commander sets.
I mean I’m not complaining (considering I only play commander) just kind of find it odd. Interesting cards so far though.
