This is a tough build around. You really wish there were black in there, as so many good spirit cards have black. Not sure how I feel about this commander :/
The point of this one guy is to serve many goals. You can use it to go wide along with small spells like Faithless Looting, Opt or Revitalize, and then use pumping spells to finish enemies off...
If you don't cast a 40 damage spirit-fueled fireball you lose style points

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
to everyone complaining about the toughness of this creature and that it can get bolted, ask yourselves how often you see lightning bolt or other similar burn spells in commander? This is clearly a commander card, hence why they gave it to the Command zone to spoil. If you are gonna play it in Modern and stuff like that, sure, give him shroud or hexproof because he is gonna be an instant removal target.
ok now hear me out -- play this then MOX AMBER, boom! you have two mana up for a counterspell!

You might be facetious here, but you might also be onto something. Casting any noncreature spell with this out gives enough mana for Apostle's Blessing, which, in turn, replaces itself with a token. Even something like Brute Force or Integrity // Intervention lets it shrug off much of modern's toughness-based removal.
Interesting thing to note here: this Aven doesn't appear to be from any plane we've seen before. The only crane-aven we've seen have been from Tarkir, but they don't have arms separate from their wings.
I've been looking for a Jeskai pillofort general who isn't Zedruu for some time. If nothing crazy comes up in the fall set I might just go with this guy.

But the sac ability allows you to switch gears into those late game bomby spells in Jeskai colors like Apex of Power, Omniscience, Expropriate, Clone Legion, Overwhelming Splendor...

Also, I was literally just waiting for a good Jeskai Flying Tribal commander option besides Numot (and Ishai/Kraum).
Pretty sure this guy is going to be my next commander. Favourite card from the set so far!

You mean casting a Spirit Bomb? O_O

I hope so, but it could also be someone from previous timeline.

Or possible member of that Jeskai remnant faction mentioned in the Core 2019 story.
Tarkir aven have only four limbs. Legs and wings. This one has hands. So it is not from Tarkir.
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
