Forget about the Weatherlight saga, it's an old story that concluded 15+ years ago and doesn't ring a bell to most of the new players. It's also quite complicated. It needs to resonate with Magic as it is now.
Since it will be tied to the current Magic image, it will be very PC. So nobody will die (Like in GI-Joe), villains will be mustache-twirling overlords with stupid minions, there will be mandatory diversity, strong empowered females with witty lines and so on.
I liked Castlevania on Netflix, but here, I expect a kind of Power Rangers experience.
I am thinking more along the lines of PG-13, like Clone Wars, the recent Voltron and similar shows. People will die, but it won't be bloody and gory. Most main characters, both heroes and villains will be safe, unless it is a season finale or similar episode. There will be the occasional episode that delves deeper into the deeper lore and mythology of MTG, but mostly it will be recent time-wise.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Here's what I read. Doesn't sound like it will be too much of a children's show if the genres they name are thriller, drama, and horror. I'm holding out some hope.

Depends on who they're marketing to--if it's kids, probably no one will die. If it's to young adults/adults, we could see some character deaths, although probably not GoT level, which I'm fine with. Hopefully the writing isn't poor, although I'm not sure how stupid writing has anything to do with being PC. In any case, I'm all for diversity and strong female leads in a game with diversity and strong female leads. Not really sure how that's problematic.
I am still going to hold out for a live action movie based on the Innistrad story line; I think that would being in new players.
I would be curious to see how WoW subs increased (if at all) after the movie came out.
WoWs numbers jumped but there was also the Legion expansion launch 2 months later. Between the two it was about 4-4.5 million subs.
As for the Netflix series, I’m tentatively excited because the Russo Brothers know how to handle such large and character diverse storylines, but not looking forward to the animation style as very very series have had what I consider good animation in the last 20 years outside of movie level.

That was one that gave me some hope in the project. While I haven’t seen the show, some of the stills were well done. However this is also the same studio that did the crappy TMNT, Wubbzy, and Rainbow Butterfly Unicorn Kitty. But I’d be very ok with The Dragon Prince stylization

Am I missing something or does this article list a different animation studio that the one linked in the OP? Anyway, if it's going to be something more serious, it's definitely good news.
I think what's most important in terms of a MtG show is the world building. The two shows I've watched that do the best job at world building are Adventure Time and Avatar: The Last Air Bender (Avatar: The Legend of Korra is good too, but obviously just builds off the first show's world). Though Adventure Time began as a pretty silly kids show, it's come to be one of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy products, and probably the closest thing to honor Jack Kirby's Legacy (topped only by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). I love how they slowly snowball this dense history of the Land of Ooo, not revealing any specifics until many seasons later. The show also does a great ob playing homage to D&D tropes, and I hope the MtG show will honors the game's influencer's as well
What I'd like to see from the show is the following:
1) A sense of vast history. I don't care what plane we begin on, the best part of MtG is how much history is crammed into each set. I want to hear about references to events a thousand years ago, foreshadowing that won't show up until six seasons later, explicit reasons that explain why the socio-political elements of each plane came about. Though I don't think they'll set the show on Dominaria, or even reference Urza and his saga, I love hot MtG spent 7 years unrolling the Urza story, beginning with flavor text in Alpha. I like this slow-roll of flavor. I hope they try to match in in the show.
2) Explicit rules of how Mana and Magic work in the world. Avatar and Full Metal Alchemist do a great job of creating self-contained rules for how magic work in their world. MtG has the implied flavor of how magic works, but the storyline interaction of mana and magic is never quite clarified. I hope they try to be explicit about the powers and limitations of magic in this show.
3) Keep it a Fantasy series. I love Dungeons and Dragons. I love that MtG started as basically D&D the card game. I love how Adventure Time plays off D&D and roleplaying tropes. I hope this show does the same.
I wonder if this is going to have shorter, more compact stories like Castlevania Seasons 1 and 2? That's about the right length to capture a set or block's worth of plot. Not sure if I'd rather the animation be cel like Castlevania or CGI like Star Wars: Rebels, though. Both have their appeal. I wouldn't mind if the characters were just a bit stylized, though. Not to the extent of the recent mobile phone game with Gideon's GREAT, BIG, GLORIOUS ARMS, but something like Clone Wars or Rebels would be neat.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

How i feel about competitive players and casual players in EDH: The competitive are german tourists, the casual are italian tourists, both in a italian beach. The italians asking themselves "why are the germans here?" make a legitimate question, the answer is because the beach is beautiful, no matter the country you came from. The italians wanting to ban the germans are dumb, because if the germans pay for their stay and follow the rules like everyone else, they have the right to be in the beach. Hovewer, if the germans started to ask themselves "why are the italians here?"... they would be dumb as hell.
I am honestly confused and frustrated by Chandra's popularity. Serious question: why do people like her? To me she's just a two dimensional and grating superhero knockoff -- and I don't even feel that way about all the Gatewatch. I like Gideon and Liliana, and sometimes Jace (I'm neutral on him), and sometimes I even like their team dynamic. But Chandra seems to personify all the things I dislike. Beats up the bad guys, throws out quips, has a "tragic" past but never ends up in real danger, never sacrifices anything, never grows, never changes. All fists, cockiness, and attitude, because that's what a strong female character is.

All fists, cockiness, and attitude, because that's what a strong female character is.
Considering Nissa is entirely different and a strong female character I have no idea where that is coming from - Chandra is one archetype, not the only one.
"All fists, cockiness, and attitude" though summons involuntary images of the one original Scrappy Doo. So the rest of the description is understandable.
I have noticed and noted before that the Gatewatch's quality (as in enjoyability) lies less in the characters themselves than in the writing itself which fluctuated strongly from author to author (mostly referring to the online content I'm most familiar with).

[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
It seems like I should be excited about this, since I love both Magic and animation. But I've never been that excited to see these particular characters in any media. I'm fine with them as Magic cards, but I've never wanted to read Gideon books and Chandra Comics and watch Jace movies and Nissa shows. I've always hated how much these characters feel like marketing points, and I don't love the "let's franchise this puppy" attitude (though it's not new). I'll probably watch this though. I watch most of the animated stuff on Netflix. She-Ra's the best!

That's hilarious considering that She-Ra started out as a girl oriented spin-off of a boy oriented show (He-Man) designed to sell toys. That said, both shows where way ahead of their time (the 80's), with strong female characters and men that where allowed to be sensitive, and He-Man himself, despite being a muscle bound hero loosely based on Conan the Barbarian, always used violence as the last resort when other methods had failed. They were both good shows for their time, and I am happy that She-Ra got a revival that was so well written as it is. Still miss the third show of the franchise though, Blackstar was just so different, sad it only got one season.
And for those wondering about the connection between the three shows: Adora and Adam (She-Ra and He-man) are fraternal twins, they are also only half-Eternian on account of their father being Eternian and their mother being a female astronaut who fell through a wormhole and crashed on Eternia. Blackstar featured an Astronaut sent from Earth to find out what happened to her, and he got brought down by an evil warlock and crashed on a sister planet to Eternia where he found a magic sword that the Warlock had been looking for. Season 2 of Blackstar was apparently going to feature a three-way crossover between the three shows.

Echo the sentiment of not wanting to be about Chandra. Nothing against her personally, I'd just rather them use either lesser known characters or even just new ones so that the show can be it's own thing.
I’m hoping for something like this. “She’s a hotheaded planeswalker who plays by her own rules. He’s a homunculus with no sense of direction. Chandra and Fbthlp: They Fight Crime”

I know you're mostly making a joke, but if they don't include Fblthp as an easter egg cameo in the background I'll be VERY disappointed.

Who says they're not going to? Just because Chandra's the protagonist doesn't mean she won't be interacting with a wide variety of characters on a regular basis. And the story doesn't have to focus on Chandra 100% of the time. They just need a popular face to help bring attention to the show and make it more cohesive with the franchise's branding as a whole, and who's more inclined towards action than a mind mage. Jace might work as the face of the strategic card game, but Chandra works as the face of the action television series.
