I hope we can still access the old board, because the information is gold like the deck brewing and creation threads along with the rules board and etc.
what infrastructure and maintenance does a site like this even need? It's just a forum. Absolutely ridiculous that it has to shut down. Which morons at Curse are responsible for this?

Well, at least you admitted you know nothing about the topic, John Snow.
Running a forum like this takes dollars for webhosting, a rented or purchased server (more dollars), and many person-hours by people with various marketable skills (so they could be earning dollars with they time they spend on this).
So quitcher *****in', you've been getting something for free for a very long time that cost a great deal to maintain for you. If the administrators are so busy doing stuff that makes money so they dont have time for this, then well done them and good luck and thanks for everything.

This site has been the most stable thing in my life since I started playing Magic itself. For nearly 15 years I have been coming here daily. I am looking forward to whatever will come but this is truely a time for mourning.
Damn, I haven't posted here in years but at one point was pretty active in the forums. Sad to see the site go though I do not play magic anymore at all as it just got out of hand price wise.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
a Reminder while MTGS is closing, the staff are currently working on releaseing a site for the community to continue on at. More info will be release on this as we approach the release date.
Yeah this sucks, I've used this site for spoilers for literal years, hoping the "replacement" is in line with what I've been enjoying for all this time.
wizard closed there forums they used to have them
That would explain why I haven't been there in over four years. :B

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I'm sure someone said it before me, but we aren't closing anytime soon, ladies and gents. We are a pretty rough and tough community and we deal with some of the Gruuliest comments; but we throw a Rakdos of a time, and have quite Izzet ideas.
I feel like after the curse merge a lot of people just didn’t want to bother with the process and the activity around here plummeted. Sad to see ya go mtgsal
I do not log in often, but visit MTGS every day; whether it is for information, ruling decisions, rumors - or back in the day the debate forum. I figure, as I have spent much of the last few years lurking in the rumor mill more than most other places on MTGS, this was as good a place as any for this post.
I decided to log in once again to say my thanks to the many people that made MTGS what it has been. I will miss this site specifically, however I do look forward to whatever comes next.
msun: Knives scoop ice cream.
Highroller: No they don't, knives don't scoop. Spoons scoop.
msun: Well, knives SHOULD scoop icecream.
Highroller: We have spoons that do it. Moreover, the shape of a knife that would scoop ice cream would make it horrible for performing the functions of a knife.
msun: Highroller, you bring up spoons as though they were the utensil used for scooping ice cream.
I've stopped playing Magic for a couple of years because it became a frustrating time and money sink for me, and I've never really been good at the game anyway.
This said I kept lurking around because of the usual excitement of the spoiler season. This place was the only one where the information was clearly displayed in a readable manner, unlike the mess of so-called social media and unusable platforms like Reddit. Also, there's quite a community with cohesion which makes reading about new cards an enjoyable experience. Overall it's true that the number of active subforums declined so there's that.
Thanks for the people who made this site work for so long and good luck in future endeavors. I'm not sure I will create an account on whatever that will be, but I will likely be lurking around.
Yep, I'll be tagging along as well. This is the only MTG site I hit up, the mixture of solid spoiler coverage with a good EDH community is just what I need. I literally just submitted my third EDH primer for review yesterday, hope there will be a way to bring those with us
This is in fact the only site I go to as well for spoilers and such, also a few years ago I helped contribute spoilers. I look forward to the next website, bummer I likely wont get to keep my rank.
I'm not much of a Reddit guy, but the sub-sites I've been to have honestly been very informative, most people seem polite, and a lot of that is down to the mods, I assume.
I think those of you who are poo-pooing the idea of going to Reddit are potentially missing out on a solid resource, though I will admit I don't go there much myself. But the times I have, it's been totally fine.

As a long time member of Reddit, I can tell you, it is a cesspool and an echochamber. Have a dissenting opinion and you get downvoted into oblivion. Provide constructive criticism and you get shadowbanned. I've been on both sides of the mod fence on the site, and although there are some good subs there, as soon as a sub hits a certain critical mass it turns into a sewage plant. Much of the bullying against content creators got started on Reddit.

It's about time for the reserved list to die, for the sake of Vintage and Legacy (And Commander).
Well, that sounds awful. I've only been there a few times (most recently for this particular spoiler season) and the discussion around the revealed cards has been pretty solid and informative from my point of view, but that's about all the experience I have there.
Welp considering MTGSalvation was the unofficial "protest" site towards mtgnews at the time, it's grown exponentially into a juggernaut of Magic-related news and content with an equal amount of influence. I understand that fatigue and what have you can play a part and sometimes you just gotta know when to quit. Good thing that the contributors are willing to keep it going under their own unique brand and carry on the legacy (!) of this rich community.
The site probably makes a good amount of revenue from ads posted on pretty much every page conceivable so unless they want an exclusive members-only site then I doubt money for membership is off the table. And that would severely hurt their market impact.
I just hope that the MTG Wiki pages stay around. I've learned so much and have been inspired to revisit my own fanfic world all thanks to this continuum and dedication fro the authors who dedicated their time to make it happen.

Here's to hope. May the new MTGS reborn be good. I'll join immediately.
As will I. There is a good community here, it would be a shame to lose it when the forum closes.
