For those of us who have racked up thousands of answers and have the little note on our handle (so to speak) that shows how long we have been a member (I take pride that I have been part of this community since 2007 and have way over 3,000 posts), my big question is this: Will the new site be a blank slate where we all (including mods) are starting from scratch as "new members: or can we have the recognition from this site carried over?
Also thank you for letting us know when advance that the site will be closing instead of doing unannounced “maintenance” like the TCG player custom card forms has been undergoing for the past seven years.
I figured something like this would happen after Curse Media was spun off. I am hopeful that someone will make a new forum and we can all just migrate over there.
There are plenty of passionate and skilled people who frequent this site who may be willing to offer you assistance in getting a new site on its feet.
It would be a tragedy to lose content/fail to get all of us a new home just because the workload was insurmountable for too few people. There are those who are willing to help if you ask us.
I don't have skill in coding/comp sci but I have dollar bills that can help. If there is funding needed for the creation of a new home for us, I would gladly pitch in to guarantee that reality.
I'll miss this place. Been posting here for quite some time. It's like a little home on the net.
Can't wait for the new site. Is there something we should be looking for?
I'll see you all over there.

We (the senior staff) are working on a new community to take MTGS's place. Stay tuned as we get closer to closure.

Thank you for your work on this site
We have received numerous offers of financial support, and we are exceptionally grateful. Fortunately, that is not a limiting factor at this time. The biggest thing we will need is people who are willing to contribute content (Primers, articles, etc) for the new site when it opens.
If you're desperate for content, I'd be happy to contribute, I've thoroughly enjoyed what this site has had to offer for many years now, and if I can help contribute to our successor I'd be willing.
I may grouse about mods, get bent out of shape and get an infraction every now and then but I will tell you this...
It will be a freezing cold day in Hell before I EVER post up in a Reddit/Facebook "forum".
Good luck to the current staff on setting up a new home, you are giving me a new appreciation for what you do. I will remember that.

I second this. I was actually in the middle of writing a Primer for one of my EDH decks (and may do others) so I can certainly contribute that way.
With that in mind, will there be anything prior to the site launching to explain some of the forum rules, structure, how to sign up, and different tags that will be available? I assume custom tags, like card and deck tags, will make it over.
I barely post anymore, but still check in a bit. Had a lot of fun of the old EDH forum in the pre-Commander days. Glad to know a new place is in the works.

The announcement for the new site will definitely include much of this information when it comes.
The intent is for the new site to use most if not all of our current custom tags, but again check the announcement when it hits for full information. We are working as hard as we can to get everything set up in time and the exact list of features that will make it into the launch are not set in stone yet.

*sniffles* I’m gonna miss this community and everyone in it. I’ve been coming here for card previews since zendikar/scars of Mirrodin (although I didn’t become a forum member till later). I will definitely check out the new site Mods just provide updates and links when it’s up and running and I’ll be there. If all else fails, I will seeing my previews on the Mythic spoiler (it just won’t be the same for me though as this community). I sincerely love each and every one of you like my family and you will all be missed! Thank you for welcoming me into your community and I will definitely try to put together one more number crunch for M20 for old time sakes (if no one else gets to it first)!
This blows. I don't post here terribly often, but I lurk constantly. There's a few bad apples, sure, but this is one of the best communities I've seen for any "nerd" hobby. I'm very disappointed to say the least.
I haven't posted much in the last ~5 years, but I have fond memories of the days when the community would come together to crunch the "Orb of Insight" for each new release, as well as when the trading community was booming. I still lurk quite a bit, and would be interested in following the site at its new location!
someone would surely be interested in taking the helm. don't be those guys that up end a community just because.
Essentially, the owners of the site (from reading the article about why the site is closing) no longer wants to support and does not want to allocate resources for maintaining it. The new site, by the sounds of it, will be built and maintained by members of the community, thus allowing them the ability to develop and change as needed instead of at the whim of some owning body.

Oh gracious... they're going to reset our post counts again, aren't they... nooooo.....
Seriously, though - many thanks to the mods, who are no doubt absolutely scuttling in the background after this was dropped on them. It's been an honour and privilege to plant thousands of posts' worth of my drivel on here, and I'm glad you're trying to give the community a new home (because it's a great one).

I think we're all aware of the corporate influence on mtgs terminal situation, but I think what we all deserve to know is why they (Curse) went through all that ******* trouble to purchase mtgs and force us to use twitch (which was unpopular to say the least), just to let the door hit us on the way out when mtgs loses some money?
Frankly, Curse doesn't understand the basics about its customers or the relative fragility of market relations. We, the consumers from whom all advertising revenue is derived, don't appreciate having the rug pulled out on our community because of some executive's preferred bottom line and may be more hesitant to invest our time and eyeballs in other curse content. Furthermore, any other up-and-coming sites that curse might want to buy in the future now have a poignant example of what happens to Curse's assets when the bigshots "turn toward other projects" or whatever. I can't possibly fathom what Curse is thinking here. They need loyal viewers and business legitimacy, and they're jeopardizing both in one artless swoop.

They are looking at short term gains rather than long term sustainability, same as with most corporations to put it frankly. It was the same when MTGNews changed ownership, only then it was much more blatant, and rapid.

To be fair, you are missing a step or two.
Curse bought MTGSalvation. Then Curse was bought by Twitch. Twitch decided they wanted some of Curse and not all of Curse, so eventually they sold the parts of Curse they did not want to Fandom. Fandom has now decided that it wants to puts its resources into other, more lucrative parts of Curse Media (like D&D Beyond), and so decided to close MTGSalvation.
